The fact that these EMT's/Firefighters are trying to work towards a solution, says a lot. They should be given credit for their patients and willingness to keep working until this is resolved. Because these guys are trying to do the right thing, God will help them. I'm a firm believer.

I'm not a fire fighter........I get tired of people putting a value on others occupation. We all could work for less, including anybody. With all the dead beats & dope heads who don't work, I'm not worried about what some one make for a living.

I have to step up for my firefighters/ EMTs because they are on point of headed to calls or coming to cover the station or whatever needs to be done. Like someone made the comment they are running into fires not knowing if that will be their last day and helping someone's family member! Seriously people get a life

Firefighters do have a dangerous job. How many times have Bacon County firefighters had to fight a serious and dangerous fire? Also, how much down time do these guys have watching ESPN and CNN at the Fire Station? Big city firefighters prolly do risk their lives on a regular bases, but watching Julian Rigsby's tobacco warehouse burn, is not a dangerous job. These guys spend more time washing the fire trucks, than fighting fires let's keep it real.

Can you give me a factual report of how many life threatening fires the Bacon County Fire Department have fought in FY 2013? I could be wrong, but there is a big difference in a New York City Firefigher and a Mayberry firefighter. Nothng against the Bacon County guys, they seem to be really good people.

I agree these guys deserve to make a decent living. However, I DO NOT think they should be making so much more than law enforcement. Law enforcement has to clear a scene and make it safe 90% of the time before these guys can go in and check on the injured. Law enforcement are also the ones that leave the house kiss wife and kids goodbye not knowing if they will make it back home. They also miss holidays and such with their families. Someone breaks into an EMT's home and puts a gun to their face it is the law enforcement called. Alot of our law enforcement are certified in not only law but also certified firemen. Tell me how it is fair that their pay is not equal or more. A local lawman with over 20 years invested in this community makes less than some of the city/county secretaries, county clerk, Road supervisor, 911 supervisor and the road supervisor's wife. Where is the fairness in that. Your law enforcement is the one you depend on when someone robs you, holds a knife to your spouses throat or is searching day and night for your missing child. Whether it's Christmas Day or their own childs birth. Seems to me priorities need to be considered.

I have lived in Alma for over 50 years. I recently went to the Alma Police Department with a complaint of dead beats stopping by my house asking for money, stealing, manipulating, etc. the Officer I talked to acted as if he didn't have time to deal with my complaint. I went back to the Police Station 2 more times and same thing. Nothing was ever done. I then told the officer that I would take matters in my own hand. He didn't like my comment, but what are we suppose to do. The Alma PD is a joke. They don't want to be bothered.

I've been out of the workforce for about 10 years but from what I've read and heard if it's true. Bacon County and Alma law enforcement, Emergency and Fire Department personnel are making just about half the national. We should be grateful for what we have because I for one wouldn't do their job for any amount of money. They have my respect.

My word. I read the posts about the school and got fired up and now this crap? I assume the same thing here people are complaining about how the firemen are paid I bet none even attend a meeting. Also I'm sure that none of you are going to run for any of the positions that can influence these decisions. This is precisely what is wrong with our country, we as citizens have allowed People to get elected and make our decisions and we don't check up on them or even question what is going on. We use sites like this to poke at decisions that we don't understand. Wasn't there two city council positions unchallenged? Wasn't there three school board positions that were unchallenged? I can't remember on county commission. Here's the deal, if you aren't willing to get involved and attend meetings you should really just shut up.

Wow - BCHS1987, are you saying that Alma's Fire Fighters/EMT's are making $50,000 a year? If so, I want to apply. That is good money for rural Georgia.

That figure is NOT correct. Also, remember, these men and women are doing TWO jobs for the price of one. They are full time firefighters AND full time Paramedics/EMTs. Look up the cost of hiring two different sets of employees to do those jobs, then tell me if you think we're overpaying
