I took my 3 year old Chorkie to Petsmart yesterday to be groomed. She was groomed there once before but it was a while ago. I usually do it myself but couldn't because of medical reasons right now. Since I picked her up she has been shaking and really subdued. She is usually really playful but just lays around now. I don't even want to think about how they groomed her. This is so unlike her that I have learned my lesson and will never take her there again!

i worked for them for almost 10 yrs and yes nothing about grooming a moving target is completely safe, but the rule that they have in place and if followed are the best that i have come across in the last yr of working for mom and pop groomers and other grooming salons is that if you want your dog to look good, then you need to know your dog We are not miracle workers and somethings can not be done, and we are not vets, so if something does go wrong a good groomer will let you know or take your dog to a vet to make sure every thing is ok. dogs are kinda like people and may hide after hair cuts, or run and play as if young again. That does not always mean that if we nicked your dog or it had an irritation to our blades that we knew right away, most of the time it takes a few days to see that and a good groomer would take notes not to dig so deep or change something different for the next time. The thing to do is find a groomer and stay with them they will have history of you and you pet. and what you want and what the pet needs (even if is not what you want)a good groomer will tell you no most of the time if you ask for haircuts that look cute but it might hurt the animal to do it.

I am currently enrolled in groom school. More than half way thru. U do NOT have 2 b certified to groom in the state of FL im doing it cause it heightens my shot for employment. NO animal likes to be groomed they get stressed and its not the groomers fault. groom your dog more often so they get usted to it. We are not miracle workers. They freak out when u do it and act the same on my table. We just have all the restraints to get the job done... thats the only difference.
Ask your groomer if there certifed, not licensed but certified. Ask how many years the one grooming your dog has been doing it. Request no nooces. Where someone holds and someone else clips. If your afraid of nicks ask them to use a clip on comb in reverse which helps avoid nicks, if its a longer doo. Ask Ask Ask! If you dont do this investigation, your not gonna know who your dog is getting groomed by.

We took our dog to the vet two weeks prior to getting her groomed at petsmart. She was completely healthy. After being groomed she got very sick 2-3 days later. Our angel died with the little pigtails still in her hair. This was her first and last time being groomed there. Our family can not even look at the sign for petsmart without being physically sick to our stomach. This place Definitely killed a member of our family that was lived dearly. RIP Isabel we love you.

Im a Groomer at Petsmart, and i think i know alot about grooming animals. like you, the training to be a groomer for petsmart is on-the-job training. i really dont think you need years of training to shave dogs. you learn from experience. alot of people think petsmart is all about money and making a profit.we all love dogs and cats and we love working with them. then again not all stores are the same. im proud of where i work, and im very confident in my grooming capability. thank you very much.
PetSmart is ALL about making a profit from pet owners! In fact, they buy their animals from mills by the masses for next to nothing, at times for free, and then sell them for extremely high profit. It is a proven fact and you may research the articles on Google to gain better information on your employer... thank you for your thoughts though ;)

We have 2 Maltese puppies. Our older one is 4 years old and he has NEVER had an issue with grooming. Actually, he is usually referred to as "easy to groom." Our baby girl Maltese, 8 months, has had a "trim" by a professional a month ago and we were told "she was great." We tried to get a simple grooming for them and booked an appointment yesterday, Dec. 30, 2013, at PetSmart in Lexington. BIGGEST MISTAKE!! When we returned to get them, they said our little lady did well but, she did not like the dryer and our fellow was difficult. She told us that Romeo was a squirmier and scratched her arm. As soon as we left we noticed that Lilly had diarrhea and it had smeared and dried on her back legs. The diarrhea continued and we were up all night with both of them. Today, Romeo has had no interest in eating, drinking or being around anyone. He has had uncontrollable bloody diarrhea for nearly 2 hours and we are celebrating New Year's Eve in an emergency veterinary hospital.... AVOID PETSMART!!! Too many incidents that are too similar. That isn't called "unusual" or "accidental", it is called "typical" and "regular". It is unacceptable and inhumane. Petsmart should certainly be responsible for the animal cruelty imposed on our helpless little ones while in their care!!

I have had two people that TOOK their dogs to Becky's K-9 Cuttery in Highland Springs, VA and it turned out bad for both of their dogs. One took her dog to be groomed and when she picked her dog up, the dog was infested with fleas which caused a BAD skin infection. I didn't find this out until I told her about my friend who took her dog there to be groomed and she was fine when dropped off but when they picked her up, she just went in her cage and her eye was swollen shut. They took her to the vet and they said that a sharp object such as scissors struck her eye and caused a hole in the cornea and had to remove the eye. This dog is 2yrs. Old The groomer didn't take care of the vet bill but just said she didn't do it. HOW COLD HEARTED!!! My friend is devastated that this happened and doesn't even know I am posting this but I don't want any other animals to go through this. My friend is broken hearted and talked to the owner and they aren't going to do anything about ths. THIS IS WRONG on so many levels. I hope that the owner thinks about this and comes to her senses and makes it right. Until then.....DON'T TAKE YOUR ANIMAL THERE.

We took our dog to Petsmart this am. He's 3. He usually jumps around. He ridgeback, boxer and lab (a rescue dog). Today, he's laid around for now over 12 hours after his visit?$28 bath, teeth, nail trim, etc. He's soooo lathargic, I took a video. I usually open the frige he's in the kitchen. His paws still drop when you lift them? What wrong?????

Not all petsmarts are bad and not all groomers working in PETsMART are bad either, this can happen anywhere... Its just more publicized because its a big corporation. So think before you speak, and for people bring in young puppies, most of you don't get their first set of shots first and that's why ur puppy could have passed away, at our PETsMART we won't take them if they don't have their first set of shots and we will explain why, and the customer usually understands. Honestly this could happen anywhere not just PETsMART

I do not patronize Pet Smart. I have had issue when they gave shots to my kitten. She was so stressed, and they handle her rough. Once getting home, Zoe was still lathargic and blood in her stool.
That evening I took her to my vet. My vet stated that Zoe was stressed which caused intestinal bleeding.
I should have taken her to her vet orginally. The shots at Pet Smart were suppose to have been econonical.
So much for that theory.
Zoe is now grown and beautiful.
I also have a yorkie. I would not dare take my pets anywhere near Petsmart.
My yorkie is groomed at Petco. The groomers are great, and allow the parents to watch.

My dog was seen by a vet 3 days before she was taken to petsmart for grooming. She was checked by a vet got her rabies shots and was great. She went to the grounded on sunday I noticed when we picked her up she was shaking and cold all week long she acted like she felt bad so on fri at 8 in the morning I rushed her to the vet and she died a few hours later. Her previos vet said nothing was wrong with her prior to the visit at the groomers
Fake as hell. Petsmart requires a 1 week waiting period after the shot.

I went to this nightmare of a groomer aka Petsmart my dog had a long beautiful coat of hair, 3 - 5 inches I asked them to remove an inch. I picked up a completely shaved dog I don't even recognize. pissed as pissed can be. it's like dropping your Spanish son at the barber and picking up a black one

How was it, that Petsmart was at fault for the death of your dog? Did a vet confirm the dog's death was attributed by the groomer? If so, I would be doing more than mourning! If your dog died of natural or unnatural causes, then shame on you to place the blame on someone who had nothing to do with the death of your dog. If your dog was too old, had health problems and died because of the stressful situation you placed him in (grooming is never an enjoyable event for animals), then his death is on your hands. Be sure before making such libel claims, that you get your facts straight.
Shut your pie hole You don't know what happened to the persons dog. Who do you think you are? Nobody, but a lonely fool to try and belittle someone about there dog.
