Why is it every time someone buys a cool looking building they feel they MUST bulldoze it for something bland, boring and Butt UGLY?? Many people seem to want to check this place out & there is more than enough land there to build a McMansion. Seems like a SMART person would rehab the place then start charging admission to the home. Heck turn it into a Bed & Breakfast or some other profitable business. Sadly these boring people aren't that bright it seems.

I went to the auction today just so that I could get a look before they tear it down.
If people are getting arrested trying to get in-then open it up and charge them.It must of been a
very grand place in its day.
Do any local people have any history on this place.
I have looked all over the internet and have not found any info.
Anybody stay there?
Why did the Maharishi leave?
I have many questions on the place.

Dear Why is it,
I am sorry, but I really don't appreciate you calling us boring people and saying that we are not smart. We think it will be a beautiful place to put a house. It would cost way to much money to fix up the place and who is to say that you would get any business if you did. Think about the cost of replacing all of those windows, exterior doors, trim, pillars, roof repairs, and painting. That is just a few things that are noticable on the outside. That does not even include all the things on the inside. Water leaks, heating and cooling, paint, and many many more. So clearly it seems you are not a SMART person and really didn't think about it very hard before you opened your mouth.

Thank you Fox4 for your news report! I think you did a great job and it was pretty neat how she faded away like a ghost at the end!

Puzzled- From the information I found inside while going through everything I know they started building it in 1979. So it really isn't that old. It is really sad they didn't do any upkeep on the place. From the records I believe that the last it was used was in 1995 or 1996. Since then a man and woman have stayed there to keep people away. They moved out in June when we took possession of the place. We think the Maharishi left because they were not having any success with the place. I don't think it really took off here like they were hoping. Transidental Meditation was very popular in the 70's and 80's and The Age of Enlightenment was popular worldwide. It is still very successful in Iowa I believe. I hope I was able to answer some of your guestions Puzzled. Thanks for coming to our auction!

i have lived here all my 60 years and i have never heard of this place being called "THE DOVER MANSION" i have always heard it called the CULT HOUSE, THE MOONIES AND THE CARPET FLYERS, but never the dover mansion. the proper name is THE CAPITOL OF THE AGE OF ENLIGHTMENT. i agree with the new ownes in tearing it down. unless you have been in the place or close up to it, you do not see how bad of condition it is in.

Okay are we children or adults here? How about we give each other a little respect. I have heard the stories on the house as well as read some. It is very interesting however people trespassing is uncalled for. I don't know for sure that it wouldn't cost about the same to restore it then to bulldoze and rebuild a new home. However, the couple has every right to do as the please since they are the owners. Maybe that will side track people from bothering them. Build a home and be happy. The building has seen better days and trespassers didn't help to keep the price down on redoing the house. Maybe if people weren't breaking in and busting things out it could be fixed. Not to mention look at the age and what would have to be upgraded, reran, ect... I wish the couple the best of luck in getting them a new home.

the children or adult commit is not necessary. everyone has the right to an oponion and when the couple was put on the news, which they had to agree to, it opened up this opportunity to speak your mind. yes the couple has the right to do what ever to the building on the ground they have bought, but f they really did not want all of this pubilisity, maybe they should have keep all of this to their self, maybe they needed the sell to get the money to pay to have the structure bulldozed down. this nonsense can go on and on. story short. if the couple did not want to introduce themselves to all of this, they should have kept quite. they own it, do what you want with it. i really dont think anyone gives a damn

@the Truth Uh. Yes it was. It's one thing to speak an opinion but it is another to start thinking one has right to determine someone else as smart or not. And your language is not very appropriate. They are trying to make it clear that they do not want people breaking in and destroying the property like they have for years. Just because YOU didn't know anything of it doesn't mean nobody else does. If you don't care then why did you throw out your opinion? How would you feel if someone was destroying you property or possessions in which you paid for? Put yourself in their shoes.

Looks like a cool place, but those of you griping about it being torn down should have bought it before these people did if you wanted to save it so badly. Funny how no one cared about the place until now.

So sad to see this old house go. It's such a neat landmark in Missouri and will be missed. Hopefully the couple keep in consideration the great amount of history this mansion brings to the area.

Steve will only do what will make him a profit.. farm it, log it, or sell it. He is not really into historic preservation or doing things to help humanity.

why would someone want to tear down a beautiful peace of history. what people don't know is that schools and people that like learning about historic places will pay money to see and visit. the students in history class's are wanting to visit historic places like the Dover Mansion, the Anderson house, think of all the beautiful history the're out there. but i guess its not worth fighting about, because the owners are going to do what they want anyway...

I was able to have a tour of the house several years ago and the set up is perfect for a hotel never understood why the basement was so small. I have many books from the cult that was given to me from the house it's very interesting. I was told that it ended up not being torn down, is this true?

I went to the auction in Sept and house was pretty much gutted then. It was a grand place in it's day.I would love to her more about what you know. Not much infromation on the internet that I have found.
Not sure if the new owners built their new home or not? It is hard to see from the road. They seemed liked very nice people at the auction.

I used to be one of those people that would drive out and look before the new owners. I am not from here and heard all the stories, it intrigued me. but one day 3 or 4 days ago i never went back. I took pictures that day never exspecting to see what i saw when i went to develop them off my camera real live ghosts in the same window taken seconds apart. I dont care what they do with the house but i am a believer i never went back and other people should stay away. i wish the new owners luck
