Hi, Please tell me what it is like in New River. The traffic to Lake Pleasant , is the lake crowded with people , travel on 17 north and south. Air quality , water quality, do you drink it. Food shopping , utility bills, good areas, crime. Anything you can tell me . We are moving to Arizona from Indiana leaving here end of May. We are trying to avoid living in the crowded cities of Phoenix and Tuscon .We are newly retired and looking for warmer weather , we really love Arizona. And the scenery just north of Phoenix. Thank You so much for any info and your opinion of the New River area.

You should consider Black Canyon City, a mere 10 miles north of New River and just across the county line. The air is clean and the water plentiful. A small town with te big city close enough to get there quickly, yet far enough to see the stars.

Aloha Sally.I moved to New River from Hawaii last Nov.New River is a great community!!Very quiet, friendly, scenic and not too far from everything you could need.A 20 minute drive gets you to Cave Creek or Anthem where there is Home depot, walmart, fry's grocery store and every service you need. Most everyone is on a well for water but usually buy bottled water for drinking.A little Phoenix smog is visable at times up here, but for the most part,is clean with blue skies.Lake pleasant lives up to it's name and is just about 30 minutes or less away and is rural,so almost no traffic along the way.The lake has nice campgrounds and several marinas and boat ramps.I've always had a great time there with no crowds during the weekdays.Hope this helps.David

Hi Sally!

New River is very laid back. David gave a great overview. I have many clients that retired in the area from Michigan & IL. Just a few more things for me to add..Temps will be a few degrees cooler than the valley. There are also many horse properties in the area and not all roads are paved. As David mentioned, you are about a 20 minute drive from stores, we have yet to find a pizza place that will deliver there! There is also a section still technically New River, but on the Anthem side of the 17 which offers new construction, and more of the suburbanite lifestyle. Not sure of your price range, but be prepared..the market is on the upswing there and we have a shortage of inventory of homes. Feel free to contact me if you need any house hunting help!
