If the NCAA wants to be politically correct, they need to implement a broad policy for all teams with mascots that could be abusive (i.e. the Seminoles, Fighting Irish, etc). Being pc only when its (financially) convenient is bs.

in america, you have the right to be a racist, and you may spew your hate towards any ethnicity that you want, but when that hatred comes spinning back around and is aimed at you, dont cry foul just because we native americans might have a few things to say too!

go build your america on someone elses grandfathers grave!

Slayer,

My real issue is with the NCAA's double standard (only removing questionable nicknames when it doesn't affect their revenues).

The decision to retain or remove the Fighting Sioux nickname is that of the University and the people of North Dakota. I personally think the University has shown their intent with the nickname is to honor the bravery of the Sioux people.

It is just time to tell the NCAA to take a jump and go bother someone else. They should be more worried about thugs playing basketball and not graduating or completing their education. They should be worried about recruiting violations. They should be worried about the high cost of education--not nicknames.

UND, is it for education or to promote sports? UND has some of the finest academic programs in the North America especially aviation. Yet the zealots have to hijack the school that it's real purpose is to promote this backward, disrespectful image of supposedly, honoring those Native Americans who their ancestors killed off and ran off the Dakota land. The Chippewa gave the name Sioux as a insult in that it means to crawl and as the insult was intended, to crawl on one's belly.

UND, your future, SPORTS AND RACIST SPORTS NAMES. Too bad. Politics and jocks, a bad combination.

when do PEOPLE become Americans? And not a Special group of people. People are not ENTITLED to anything
now a days. In the OLD days money was in the form of a horse , cattle, blankets , guns and ect.
were these Special people not paid for their belongings, as it being sold??
If different special people go to war against each other does the Vitorious side make the losing side do as They want.
Also did NOT the State of ND agree on conditions
when the arena was built?
Sorry For the spelling but

As an American Indian, I am okay that Florida State has a deal with the Seminole Indians to keep their name. Notre Dame was started by Irish Catholics. No problem with the name they chose for themselves.
As for UND, drop the fighting part of the name. Show other examples of how you are paying respect to the name used. I'd be okay with it.
FYI, my daughter works on the Standing Rock reservation. Considering how the residents are treated by a majority of non-Indian employees, the BIA, BLM and other state/federal departments, I am not surprised at all by their objections.

"Executive vice president and chief inclusion officer..."

Sounds like a good gig for a left-wing, PC zealot. When the NCAA makes a decision, they often make the wrong one. They are similar to the Minnesota State High School League. I'm sure the NCAA will not allow UND to participate in the post-season if they keep the name. Heavy-handed, but it is the big card they can play...

Is that the other tribe DID endorse the name, and that the Standing Rock Tribe refused to allow a general vote of its members. Some polling showed it would actually be approved counter to the Tribal Councils wishes.

North Dakota, stand your ground and keep that name. The NCAA should rot in hell for all the good they do.

The Sioux Nation should sue ther state of North Dakota. Chuckle chuckle. One would see jusy HOW FAST that name would get dropped if the Lakota tribes were going to gedt thweir hands on some of that North Dakota Oil Monies (and out of the State's pocket).

Hear tell that the Ralph Engelstad Arena would, supposedly, be torn down if the Fighting Sioux name was dropped? That's cause the guy who put up the cash (now dead) did it to keep the name.

After a lawsuit the Sioux Nation would Own it with the heap big monies they'd collect. Then all this talk of love, by the Anglos, towards the Sioux, would be reverasled as nothing more then a fake facade.

NoDak has its opinions and choices and the NCAA has their own. No one is making either side do anything. Some NoDaks are saying do not change the name and logo and are using the law to force the University's hand. The NCAA is saying change the name and the logo or you don't play in our league and are using this as leverage to force the University's hand.

So what? Make a choice and live with it and quit your kvetching. No one said life was fair or easy. The Rolling Stones tell us you can't always get what you want.

The only ones I guess I would listen to are the tribes themselves. If they say the name and logo do not make them "feel the love" and pride that the name/logo supports insist that it does...Well then, there you have it.

How proper we've become! I find it offensive that Notre Dame continues to use "Fighting Irish". This is a direct slur at the Irish. How long until they are challenged to change their name? Not ALL Irish fight! Please! This is becoming beyond reality! The "Fighting Souix" are here to stay! Leave us alone and go sell your stupidity elsewhere!

An arena built and paid for by a Minnesotan with a team full of Canadians.
It should be the Fighting Sue, appropriate, and final.
