Deputy Hulm came to my home February 7,2008.
Deputies Qualm and Mehre came to my home to seize my dogs March 1,2008. Directing the seizure was Assistant States Attorney Cynthia Feland. They did not identify her and she didn't tell us who she was either. I didn't know who she was until March 19,2008 when Duane and I were watching the news and identified her. My sister,Sue,was here at that time and she is just one of my witnesses. They seized my dogs under the assumption of parvo. Did I mention that there is no statute for that? My dogs did not have it. If nothing else I probably over vaccinated them. Then on March 31,2008 I was called by my attorney's office to tell me I was being charged with animal neglect. My question was,"How did I neglect them?" I know I loved and gave attention to each and every one,so what's this about? It turns out that I'm being charged because I am fighting to get my Chihuahuas back. I could have taken the easy route and made the deal. The deal would have been I don't fight to get my dogs back and they drop the charges. I love those dogs. If it was money,Shelly,they could be replaced. It's not. I was in court for the first time in my life on my oldest daughter,Christal's 19th birthday. There is a Motion to Dismiss Hearing date set. If the judge decides to take it to trial and waste taxpayers money then the trial will be on my youngest son's Isaac's 5th birthday.
Overview of dates: 2/7/08 Deputy Hulm came to check on the dogs. 3/1/08 Chihuahuas seized by Deputy Qualm,Mehre,Assistant States Attorney Cynthia Feland and at least 20 volunteers. 3/31/08 Charged with Animal Neglect.
4/1/08 1st court appearance in my 38 years. If my dogs were in bad shape they would have seized them 2/7/08. Common sense tells you that.

On 2/7/08 Deputy Hulm asked a couple of questions such as: How do you keep track of all of them? He noticed I called each dog by name. My answer was I have 7 children and I keep track of them too. During their "Investigation of me" they did not question me at all. Seriously if a person is being investigated you would think they would question that person. They could have asked to see the vaccine records. They didn't.
You know the reporter who wrote the stories in the paper about me was Doglover on the online comment section of those stories? I e-mailed the online editor 3/20/08. The comments by Doglover stopped.

P-types i had a German Shepard when i was little and she was like a sister to me, I think when you are a child you can have this unbelievable bond with dogs. Sounds like you had that with yours. I cannot image having a neighbor like the one you said you had when you were young, that is beyond horrible. It really kills a part of me that some people can be so cruel and not think twice about it. I have seen people starve dogs and abuse them beyond belief. I realize that some of my words may be harsh, but I'm so passionate about animal welfare. I'm glad to hear you like a good debate! I enjoy them too and don't want it to sound like i only listen to one side, I'm not that kind of person. I go on my gut feeling and what i have read. On another note there are some dogs you can have is you have allergies, if you would like to know some of the breeds i would be happy too help. It sounds like you miss the love of a dog and i don't blame you. I know i would be lost if i could not have my dogs. Nice having a civil post

Lila, i truly feel bad that you poor children had to see that and go through that and probably sill are trying to deal with all this. I do feel sorry that court dates could be on your sons b-day. I have two small kids myself and my heart always goes out to children because they are so innocent

You 2 are good passionate women. Not at all nutty! lol It's good to have a passion for something especially when it comes to dogs. The stray cats are not like dogs though. They use my flowerbeds as litter boxes. Oh,well,I'll wear gloves. I saw one of the chihuahuas that I gave to my sister-in-law Marlene today. The feelings were mixed. I was happy and sad at the same time.

I asked a vet 3 years ago what I could do to stop some of my dogs from nibbling on dog"treats" lol. He said to give them canned pumpkin. I did. Lots of it. They like it. But a couple of the chihuahuas preferred the "treats" instead. I noticed that they don't do that outside. They chew on grass. Where can a person buy green grass in the winter? lol I don't use pesticides or insecticides in my flowerbeds. My flowerbeds are about 75 feet North of my dog kennels and I don't want to chance making them sick. My neighbors usually walk by and pet them spring-fall. They have not taken their normal family walks this year. Their kids would pet my dogs through the chainlink and laugh. It was wonderful to work in the flowerbeds and watch my dogs play and get petted. When I work in my flowerbeds now, I keep my head turned away because I cry if I don't.

Lila, Pineapple works good too to stop them from eating their "treats". Something in the pineapple that makes it taste gross, though i have a hard time believing that their "treats" could ever taste good! Did your neighbors ever call the police and complain about you dogs or did this all come about because one person was pissed they didn't get the dog they wanted? When the police came did any one take pictures of where the dogs were being kept? I'm a very open-minded person but I feel maybe I need to open a little more. I don't believe in breeding that many dogs when there is so many in shelters, but maybe its time to hear more. If you would like to tell me a little more that would be nice but if you don't want to I can understand that too. I'm kinda tired of fighting on this post!

Amanda my neighbors never called the Sheriff's Dept. They liked my dogs. A woman who didn't get the dog she wanted did. I did give her 3 others.

Thanks, I'm not in "destroy all puppy mills" mode anymore and some things were just not adding up. All it takes is one person to turn someones life upside down. I would think that if there was a huge problem that a neighbor would call. Hopefully she is a good home for the 3 she got.

That tribune article was the best/worst thing to happen to me. It was the best because I gave away 51 to good homes. I only intended to give away 25. But I saw the people were good so my heart went out to them. I forgave the first lady. The second one not so easy to forgive. This was the parvo accusation lady. She is hands down the meanest woman I've ever known. This lady had the choice of fully vaccinated dogs under a year old and 13 wk olds for free. She insisted on an unvaccinated puppy. I told her 3 times that he was not vaccinated. I had 12 other people in my home looking at dogs/puppies.Thank God I have witnesses to that. Why would a person insist on spending $300. on an unvaccinated puppy when she could have had a 13 wk old for free? Don't make sense. I told her the puppy could not be around other dogs. She had a long hair and short hair chihuahuas. She called me 4 days later told me that the puppy had parvo and that she was putting the puppy to sleep because of the cost of treatment. She wanted her money back. She threatened to put it in the tribune. I would have given the woman her money no matter what. I knew the puppy didn't get parvo from my home. I gave them their vaccinations. I knew even giving her,her money back she was going to try to wreck my life. She told me that over the phone. Wish I would have kept that message on my voicemail on my cell. I don't take kindly to threats. Well I had her husband sign a paper that stated that I gave the money back in good faith. That really drove her crazy. It makes me angry she chose money over medical treatment for that puppy. She is a secretary at some eye surgery place. If I correctly read the scribble of the husband the last name is Keller. She is the one that put the parvo scare into authority figures and in turn got my dogs confiscated from me. They believed hearsay instead of calling me and asking me questions. I forgive the first lady it was kind of a backwards kind of favor the way I see it. But the second lady wanted me burnt at the stake for something she did and I'm not sure how I will deal with her yet. She knew how many children I have and she did not care. How selfish is that?

Did she have to put the puppy down? Why would someone kill a puppy? She has no love, sounds like she had a beef with you and wanted to bring you down, the sad thing is is that it's not just you, you have a family that this is happening to too. Sounds like this lady had it planed to get a puppy without it shots. Maybe she wanted to do this to you? This is the same lady that wanted your favorite male? If it is i would say she had this all planed because she did not get her way. Some people will stop at nothing to make a point. Just remember one thing and i truly believe this-Karma's a bitch!

Amanda, if you have an idea what kind of dog I could have without the result of hurting my son, I would love to have a list!
Lila-that is a true horror story that you told. I could not imagine all the drama you have had in your life--I hope it gets better for you and your family.
Amanda- I do truly love all animals. When I was little I use to sing to the cows at my grandparents farm because I thought they were in need of some entertainment.
I do love dogs best though. I wish I could get another dog with the same personality as my little dog...maybe some day.

P-types, here are some dogs that are "low dander" Basenji, Bedington Terrier, Bischon, Chinese Crested, Kerry Blue Terrier, Maltese, Schnauzer, Poodle, Portuguese Water Dog, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Coton de Tulear, Havanese. There a no dogs that are completely allergy free but the ones that are low dander are said to be ok with people who have allergies to dogs, but if your son is allergic to the saliva then no dog would work. I would also recommend an air purifier too Hope this helps!

No, it's not the same lady that wanted my favorite male. It was the parvo accusation lady who did not have her name put in the paper. Parvo as deadly as it is can be treated with great results. All it takes is a vet who knows what they are doing. The things that are needed are: Stomach protectant,injectable amoxicillin,injectable fluids or IV if possible. Hot water bottles,blankets,Kao and honey. Need to keep them warm and sugar levels up while the amoxicillian takes effect. Dehydration usually kills a dog before the virus does, so fluids have to be injected under the dogs skin. That lady, I use the term loosely, chose to put the puppy to sleep instead of trying to save his life because of the cost of medical treatment. He had the coloring of a Doberman. Beautiful little guy.

The case was not dismissed today. I'm ok with that. It's the 89 days without seeing/holding my dogs that bothers me. I'll keep this site up to date on what's going on. Oh,yeah,Jenny Michaels,the Bismarck Tribune reporter was in court today. I'm 99% sure I'll be in the paper on Friday.
