It's about time some political sense has come to light. Damn good job ND. If I were of the Sioux Tribe, I would be proud to share "The Fighting Sioux" name.

Good for ND. The NCAA has no right to tell schools what names are OK.

The NCAA needs to be more even-handed in it's policy. Why ban the Sioux while permitting the Seminoles?

The UND nickname/mascot is a dignified portrayal of a Native American, maybe the NCAA should comment first on the caricatures that are really demeaning such as the Cleveland Indians logo or the Washington Redskins. Finally, will the NCAA impose the same sanctions on the Florida Seminoles?
Rocky - I understand that the Native American Tribes in Florida have agreed to allow the use of the name for Florida State University. Maybe Florida should set an example for the Tribes in North Dakota, aye ...?

Great idea. Let the Fighting Sioux keep on fighting! It's a proud name and a proud heritage.
I think the NCAA has more pressing issues than to worry about the political correctness of this.
Nationwide:
What's the graduation rate of college athletes vs the rest of the student body?
What's the crime rate among college athletes vs the rest of the student body?
and the list goes on and on ...
Graduation and crime rates amoung hockey players are better than they are in football and basketball. I bet golfers have the highest grad. and lowest crime stats.

Actually I believe one of the Tribes did have an issue with it. And why should it be "whities" decision on the nickname? The ignorance of some people.
Actually no, neither of the tribes has voted against use of the name. One of them explicitly voted in favor of it. The other refused to hold a vote, even though many of it's members would like to vote in favor of it.

Ignorance indeed, thank you for missing my entire point! Which is exactly that the "Whities" at the NCAA shouldn't even be involved. If the tribes have an problem, they can tell the university to stop using the nickname. So far they haven't. So who has any right to say otherwise.

Try some basic comprehension before you comment next time.
