Great idea. Let the Fighting Sioux keep on fighting! It's a proud name and a proud heritage.

I think the NCAA has more pressing issues than to worry about the political correctness of this.

Nationwide:
What's the graduation rate of college athletes vs the rest of the student body?
What's the crime rate among college athletes vs the rest of the student body?

and the list goes on and on ...

It seems that every pronouncement by Pres Obama contains errors and omissions.
1. Mr Obama continued to say that we have 2 percent of our needs from fossil fuels. He flipped over the fact that HE stopped drilling in the Gulf and has discouraged (spell that prohibited drilling in many other areas of our country. The 2 percent (or is that 3%) refers the proven reserves. He totally ignored the fact that we have considerably more than that in real reserves that bureaucrats have made unavailable to us. See Alaska, off-shore east coast and west coast, plus many areas in the mountain west.

We have the resourses so let's drill, baby drill!!! Real productions could start in just two to four years. But it wouldn't ever happen if the president and other continue to male up contrived stories about not drilling. Just do it.

I think that if the NCAA continues to push this matter that perhaps North Dakota should revisit the level of funding to that institution. After all, all that money is taxpayer dollars. The NCAA, the Big Ten, North Dakota - ALL TAXPAYER DOLLARS!!! If they want to use that money to squabble, then see to it that they have less of it!

The UND nickname/mascot is a dignified portrayal of a Native American, maybe the NCAA should comment first on the caricatures that are really demeaning such as the Cleveland Indians logo or the Washington Redskins. Finally, will the NCAA impose the same sanctions on the Florida Seminoles?

Not being a fan of North Dakota, normally I'd cheer at anything that caused them problems. But in this case I'm solidly on the side of the Fighting Sioux.

Tell the NCAA Whities to stick it up their rear. If it were the local tribes that had a problem with the name, then I'd reconsider my opinion. But it's not, it's a bunch of uppity white yuppies in the NCAA that want to feel like they're important and "diverse" by pulling this crud.

Glad to see some Gopher fans supporting the Sioux. Thanks for the help!

NCAA turns blind eye to Ohio State and Auburn football...but let's get those nicknames. Priorities, NCAA...find some.

Its all about the money. The NCAA would sell college athletes as slaves if the could make a dollar. They are a joke. If florida state can keep its Seminoles so should North Dakota keep the Sioux. What about those IRA drunken Irish at ND.

Actually I believe one of the Tribes did have an issue with it. And why should it be "whities" decision on the nickname? The ignorance of some people.

The good people of ND love their nickname including a majority of Native Americans.
The NCAA continues to push it's weight around and ND said NO!!!!!

What the hell does this have to do with what a college names its athletic teams?

Do any of you dipsticks read anything? Do you happen to know anything on the entire subject? The Seminole tribes of Florida and Georgia voted to approve the use by Florida State to use their name. In North Dakota, only one of two tribes voted to approve this. The NCAA put into place that in order for any college or university to keep a name that depicts a specific tribe, they must get permission from said tribe. The Sioux is protected as a representation of a people. You couldn't expect to name your baseball team the "WalMarts" or "Best Buy" without getting permission.

Stop thinking about the short effect and realize that the name Sioux represents something larger than a hockey team.
