How does the people on welfare take advantage of people that work, They need to have someone to go in the homes to make sure they NEED the welfare and make sure they are on disability. Here my husband works everyday and then goes out and cut wood for the house. We pay our bills on time and do without alot of things we need. And what needs to really happen is this welfare system in ironton needs to shut down!!! I know 2 family's right now are getting food stamp's about 400.00 a month and they are divorced and still living together, DO you think this is right?

Well I must agree that there are those people out there that do abuse the system but there are many I know that do not and are in true need of the programs that the state has to offer. In regards to a couple getting divorced and living together, in todays times and strife, alot of couples are doing this because one has lost their job, they may have small children and need medical assistance that they cannot get any other way. I know of older couples divorcing after many years due to the cut backs on medicare and such. It is sad but a cold hard truth that our nation seems to be falling apart at the seams. In the past, I have had to use the programs that the state has to offer such as food stamps, heating assistance because of job loss and having a small child. I count my blessings as now I have a job and can take care of everything. I pray for all those out of work and I pray for our Nation. Maybe more people need to pray!

yes, I agree to you on the last statement!!! The people on welfare that don't need it they need to pray for a job and get off their can. And give the welfare system to the people that need it!!!

I agree, My husband want's to call Jefferson City so bad and report this welfare system so bad, but he is afraid that one day he might NEED the system, people abuse this system so bad. I know of a gentleman he is in his 80's and he has tried so many times to get help, and they told him that he had to much. he has land bought and paid for when he was working, his wife pass away years ago, and now living in a trailer that needs to be burn, and living on about 500.00 a month. But the welfare only want's to help the druggies and the alcoholics.

life is like a store you have your store and others have their stores, if your minding someone else's stores who is minding yours? Minding other stores can cause you to get robbed so perhaps all you hateful gossiping judgmental people should start minding your own business! Times are tough for everyone and since you don't live with people you THINK you know about how can you know whether they are in need or not? How about getting together as a community and taking care of your needy rather then sitting on a computer behind your anonymous posts and judging others? It is Gods job to judge NOT yours.

The government provides programs to people who quailify. The government decides what the national average is for a standard of living and then declares the poverty level. Wheather or not you live under poverty level is based on your yearly income. The government then decides what percent of the people who live under that poverty level get help from government funded programs.

Translation: To get help you must need help.
Some people who need help make just a little money to get help and that just sucks. Some people get divorced and live in the same house because they cant afford to separate and they dont prepare meals together. Some old people who invested in Land and their homes can't get help because they made investments. Some times they have to sell their investments later in life.
We live in a low income area. Alot of people here get government help. If you dont like it Move!

What about the people on disability...seems to me that many are on this program...but yet you see them running all over town yard sales, auctions, turning a buck to make ends meet. No problem but they aren't so disabled to do that and if they can do that then they can work!!! Between the disabled and welfare oh yeah throw in the county commissioner trying to get a new jailhouse to house the states lowlifes and Loan Pine in town gee sounds like a real family place of values!

Joplin your contradict yourself, you complain bc people are on welfare and disability and then complain they can do yard sales? Have you tried to live on disability? I know people who can get up and move around but then end up in bed for days afterwards, so should people on disability just lay down and die? That's a great answer.

jenie you are hateful and soulless and I hope when something bad happens to you someday you don't find yourself all alone in this world with people hoping you die just bc your disabled. Just hateful and may God heal your mean tiny heart,

OMG-you knowwhat, if those families that apply for help from the state are, offered the states assistance-what should it matter to anyone else. The ball is dropped because of the lack of resources to the state to investigate every single case that comes into their office. Yes, you will have those that will open a case under fraudulent terms but most families these days need the states assistance. I worked for over 30 years and found myself unemployed and needing help. Thank God the state programs were there for my child and myself, as well as EMAA. Iron county is in the top 10 for being the poorest in the state. The jobs available even in Farmington do not pay enough to support a family. If you witnes fraud-report it, otherwise, why even comment!

this is just sickening! I know there are people who abuse the system but they are living in big cities where there is more money! people who are disabled or struggling in these small towns where there is not a lot of work should not be ridiculed bc they are doing the best they can. As a community we ALL should be getting together to help each other out not name calling, bashing and especially not wishing people dead! This country is headed for a great depression and everyone is struggling and no-one but the almighty above have the right to judge!
