Visited here for the first and LAST TIME on Valentines Day. We had a part of 13 and when the person who made the arrangements asked the owner/Mgr. how much longer the wait would be, the OWNER/Mgr RUDELY stated to him..."I wish you would take your business elsewhere"!!!?????? CAN YOU IMAGINE???
The waiter tried to smooth things over but we were really steamed! The fellow who made the arrangements did not even order in protest of this rude treatment! If not for the fact that it was getting late and there were several people hungry, we would have certainly WALKED OUT!
SHAME ON YOU! You offended a group of professional who spend GOOD money EVERY week on eating out. We also know many MANY people in the community and have already put the word out! You owe not only the fellow that made the reservations an apology but 12 others as well! We will NOT be back and will indeed "TAKE OUR BUSINESS AND THAT OF OUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, and PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATES ELSEWHERE"!!!!
That rude manager

I am that "manager/owner" and your comments are completely out of context. But please don't come back

We won't. You don't deserve our business. We hope you fall flat on your face and go belly up. With an attitude like that, it won't be long.I hope others will boycott your miserable attitude as well. If you had a lick of buisness sense, you would have been at our table doing whatever it took to make it right. An apology from you and comping the guy's meal that you insulted would have gone a long way. Instead we had your waiter there trying to make excuses for your insulting behavior. This is YOUR loss. We spend two evenings a week out socializing and eating out on the economy. Do the math genius! You threw 14 people out who spend at least 15 to 20 dollars at a whack twice a week.
I guess the economy is THAT good and you have it like that, that you don't need every customer you can possibly seat? It's not rocket science. Those people share it within their circles both professional and personal and it spreads like wildfire. If we cost you ONE customer each day it is all worth it.
Have a nice day!

Wow, I had some friends from Columbia that went to the Palmetto Oyster restaurant this week and said that it was really great, from the food to the service all the way to the facility. They travel a lot and I they are pretty on the money when it comes to restaurant reviews so I will still give the restaurant a try. Hope the dog lovers review is just one bad experience. Cause I love some oysters . My co-worker and I will have to try it ourself.
Not that bad

I have been there so many times and never had a bad experience. The waitstaff and the bartenders are cool as hell. The food has always been awesome, including the alligator cheesecake!! Maybe some people are just too damn critical....or taken a hammer to the head one too many times!!

Hammer head sounds jealous.... I've seen sucky reviews for other restaurants that I KNOW are great also..... Must be from falling competitors

Hammer head sounds jealous.... I've seen sucky reviews for other restaurants that I KNOW are great also..... Must be from failing competitors. Be your own judge about whether or not something is good. Not everyone likes the same stuff... Thank goodness. A over crowded parking lot night after night is a sign.... And its makes the people who are the competition or at least think they are get jealous. just do what you do well. Its not to bash others.. It doesn't make you look better.

I love the po' house. Lol. Everyone there is so friendly! Jessica is a phenomenal waitress. And they have the cutest little blonde host with southern charm. The food is beyond delicious. Go there every week just about.

Managers rude. The food is not spectacular...this establishment simply gets business for two reasons.
1)It is the only place like it in a 40 mile radius (not just the seafood but the whole "beach shack" decorative). The interior makes it a fun place to drink a few beer and eat oysters.......and most of all..... It makes one FORGET there in sumter county.
2) The second reason is the fact that it is located an extremely short distance from the wise Dr. And Wilson hall road area. This location is ideal due to the fact that nearly every family is wealthy or upper middle class....middle class at the worst and i know for fact that a large majority of that thecommunity eats at the establishment if it were a large"hang out spot".
For this town the restaurant is a good fit, and should prosper. However, if you want a break from the seafood then check out The Hamptons. Its one of the finest establishments I've ever been to and its right herein sumter...the owner spared no expense. The food is wonderful, its extremely decorative, and the wine list is incomparable for this area.

I've eaten there several times, and I've never had a bad experience. The food is great along with the prices. Great team of staff as well! I will continue to visit!

Your comments are interesting. They are not well informed however. There have been two restaurants at that location previously. Neither did especially well.
Hampton's is a good restaurant. Its not a fit for Sumter. It exists because its owners have bottomless pockets.

My wife and I frequent Hampton's regularly and there is always a crowd. They are doing well. Not because of deep pockets, but rather offering an excellent product with unheard of service in a town that lacks it elsewhere. It's a bit pricey for Sumter but you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a bargin, stick with Chili's, Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday. If you want a fine meal, served by a staff that cares about service in a setting that is pleasing; spend the money and go to Hampton's.

As for the Oyster House, we've been there a few times and while it was nothing special, it was far from bad. Food is acceptable. Atmosphere is unique (for Sumter)and relaxing. Service and price was fair. It is a comfortable, casual place to have a decent meal. We'll be back.

We've eaten at the oyster house a handful of times, and the service was always excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere is fun, with corn-hole and horse-shoes outside, and a well-stocked bar. They have accommodated our large groups of 8-10 people with no problems, and they have a beer selection that is the best I've found. I would recommend them to anyone as one of the best places to eat here in Sumter.
