Dogs Prey On Middle School

Full story: WLTX Columbia

So, naturally, the principal wants Lee County Animal Control to get the dogs off their property before someone else gets hurt.

Can't they catch the mutts some other way??

Here are a few.

1) Rope traps
2) Net
3) Get them in a fence and lock the animal up.(this is the easiest way) Aren't most schools fenced?

If they come near a child and threaten a child then

4) Bullets .22 rifle bullets are cheap

I know someone will holler about killing a dog but if it is running loose and it threatens someone especially a child then it must be put down.

If you want to scare the dogs away then buy a Daisy 880 and some BBs. 3-4 pumps and hit them on the hind qtr. It will not hurt them but it will scare them. After a few times they will not come around.

the people who suffer from this problem create it to begin with. they get dogs and them eventually let them loose because they don't want them, or else don't spay and neuter their dogs whom they let run loose and create a large dog population. It makes me sick to see this and I hate to say it, but it's largely the black community that does this. They don't see dogs as companions, they see them as objects. I hope none of these dogs are caught.

The principal uses this type of grammer? Animal control finally dropped off a trap to the school Friday morning, but the problem is there is five dogs on the loose and only one trap.

WE MUST PROTECT OUR CHILDREN! KILL THE DOGS! But lets continue to bombard them with smut and violence on TV, movies and computer games! The headline to the article also shows the ignorant media hype to create fear...it leads you to think an evil pack of cunning dogs are just waiting outside the school to attack!

Talk about this country being screwed up! While this animal control person pleads that she does not have the resources to take care of the problem of loose dogs in her area, millions of our tax dollars are being spent on a needless, unwanted USDA program that will keep track of every farm animal in the US. Forget about tracking a few loose dogs, we must know where all those dangerous cows, chickens, sheep and horses are! The livestock owners will have to file birth, death and movement reports on every critter they own. Called NAIS (National animal Identification System) it will require more govt surveillance on farmers and ranchers than on illegals or sexual predators, while giving benefits to corporate ag. See nonais dot org for more info.

Let's see.... no dog traps? What happened to the old noose and collar? If they can do it on Animal Planet, they should be able to do it in Lee County. Quit with the lame excuses and get rid of the strays! Or tell that kid to stop bringing his pets to school.

Unbelievable. You can't even have a story about a bunch of stray dogs without making it racist.

While I am an animal lover, I have little tolerance with owners that let their animals run loose. I have had two precious Schipperkes, that were contained in my yard, killed by dogs that were allowed to run loose.

One dog, by itself, may be friendly, but when they team up with one or more dogs, they can become vicious.

True, some owners don't want to take responsibility for their dogs, keeping them contained on their property, fedding them, etc. Yes, it is the owner's fault, not the dogs.

Having dogs run loose has become a large problem in a number of places - Fairfield County has an article about this. I can understand why children and parents are afraid of the 'loose' dogs after all the stories about children and adults being attacked.

Traps and nooses can work, but if there is a problem with having the right size traps or getting close enough to use a noose, perhaps Animal Control should consider using a tranquillizer gun. That way, the animal is not hurt, can be taken to 'jail' for the owner to have to claim and pay for it to go home and perhaps face a hefty fine. Of course, some owners don't want the animal, so its fate will either adopted out to someone that will care for it, if deemed not vicious, or put to 'sleep'.

With all the problems with 'loose dogs', it is time something was done to curb owners from allowing their aminals to run 'at large'. This problem can be solved with the owners taking more responsibility and stricter laws being put in place and enforced.

i am sorry, but now is the time to get out the guns. i had this happen to me. the law is clear that if you feel threatened you have the right to defend yourself and your child. when i started carring my gun in my own yard, the owner started controling his animal. i say arm the parents and take care of the dogs.
