Can anyone refer me to an honest and reasonably priced computer repairman or business in the Bisbee, Sierra Vista area? I am not interested in the chicken killer who has a bad reputation as for not being trusted. Thanks.

I believe the OP asked for a referral, someone you have a good
experience with. One who is good and reasonable.

Thanks. I wish their name was Bisbee Computers. I did
see them in my search, but did not click on it because I
thought they were in Palominas, too far from Bisbee.

I paid over $100 to have a virus removed that was still present when I got my computer back and they informed me I must have been re-infected. Really? I just got it home and turned it on before even connecting to the Internet and the problem was still there. My wife was charged over $200 for a memory upgrade. Then I found the website crucial.com and found that the memory stick cost $24.99 AND he kept my old memory stick! They are money grubbing shysters who take advantage of people and only care about money.

That is bad! I'm sorry to hear they did this to you.
Thanks for letting us know.

Paying a computer tech to remove a virus is like paying a hair stylist to remove gum from your hair. They can make their best effort but it's impossible to guarantee success.

After 30 years in the business (and not seeking extra work so don't ask) I'll let you in on the straight dope:

If you've got a virus, the best you can ever expect is to isolate a number of your most important files (what I call your tax records and baby pictures) to a CD or flash drive. Then - remove your tainted hard drive and put it away in the fire box. Go buy a new drive, clean install the operating system - install ALL service packs and patches - and DON'T go back to the websites where you got infected in the first place. DON'T share music and movies.

You'd be amazed at the number of college kid laptops I've spent hours trying to clean up. It's like trying to disinfect a public bathroom. They're better off spending their limited $$ on a factory fresh hard drive than dubious virus removal.

Maybe try a Mac? I have had many Macs. Never had a virus problem.

Mac - good suggestion. Viruses are written by people who are paid to 'recruit' as many computers as possible into botnets for purposes such as spamming, denial-of-service attacks etc... For that reason they target the most common operating system - MS Windows. If your machine's running MacOS or Linux it's less susceptible. Scary trend - the virus-writers have started targeting Android and IOS because these mobile devices are becoming SO common.

All good suggestions. Getting a Mac seems like a good idea just to alleviate the frustration of Windows. I may be older, but I sure am learning a lot about computers after my experiences with that repair shop!

Don't be too sure.

There are at least two sides to everything.
Both sides could be right. You may have a great
experience with a repair shop (any kind), but
others may not.

The fair thing to do is just be careful and
ask for references.

This is what the OP did, ask for references.
This is why we always see Pros and Cons in all
the reviews.

Be fair and be careful. I have even used the same
person (not computers) multiple times and he was good at first and not so good later. So, no one
is perfect and could be rated opposites by different
people.
