When I got that call about your death I couldnt believe it was true, but to pull up to yellow tape and police every where confirmed a tragedy. I hope you know that alot of people cared for you and I know you were looking down at the funeral smiling because they all showed up just to say goodbye. As for me I know its not goodbye, God needed you and though I wish selfishly you were here with us I know your work up ther is more important. I love you Charles E Lawrence and I know we will meet again.

I feel Charles death was will be a wake up call to people on Sherman Heights. I feel sorry for both boys because where were the parents. If you know your child doesn't have a job but can afford the finer things in life.WHERE OR WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE GETTING IT FROM. Lil Dedric was bound to get in trouble because his parents are/were in the streets to much who is home to raise a child, the same streets that has raised so many before....If his father was a father maybe they both would still be here....

Words could not express how I feel about my cousin being murdered. My aunt and uncle will never see their first born child and eldest son again. His daughters will not see their father again. His sisters and brother will not be able to tell him they love him again. Nobody has the right to take someone's life regardless of what they say or you might think they were doing. Lil Dedric as you call him will get to see his mom and dad on visits. But we will never be able to see Charles beautiful smile in person again. I know he is smiling down on me and the family saying that he is proud of us and that his murderer will spend the rest of his days in prison, but no matter how much justice is served, It will not bring back my cousin. R.I.P Charles E. Lawrence. We can finally be at ease knowing that they found him guilty and that he will not be able to harm anyone else child.

I think this was a tragedy for both families and its a lost. I pray that both mother's find peace with this situation. Lil Dedric mother or father is not to blame for what he did because he made the decision to pull the trigger! He made a bad decision and now he has to pay the price. Whats so sad is Lil Dedric is young and will spend the rest of his life in prison. I pray that God forgives him. Let's judge him because we could eaily be in a bad situation. Let pray that the families involved are able to heal.

Local news updates from Birmingham and surrounding communitiesMurder suspect covered in blood, according to testimony
By Sherrel Stewart
November 07, 2007, 2:12PM

A Sherman Heights teen charged with capital murder was seen walking from the crime scene, his hands covered in blood and wearing the victim's blood-stained cap, a witness said today in the preliminary hearing of Dedric Mullins.

Jefferson County District Judge Katrina Ross bound the case over to the grand jury and declined to reconsider an earlier ruling denying bail for the 16-year-old defendant.

Mullins is charged with intentionally shooting a close friend, Charles Lawrence, while the 21-year-old victim was sitting in his car.

Lawrence's body was found Sept. 9 in a vacant lot off Slayden Avenue in southwest Birmingham, where the bodies of at least two other homicide victims have been found in the last year.

Mullins told police that he had talked to Lawrence earlier that day and agreed to meet him in Wylam because Lawrence had a large amount of drugs for a pending deal and he was nervous about police arresting him.

I can believe its been two years since you left us and everyday the pain of you not being here is felt in our hearts. I know you looking down on us with that big kool-aid smile saying Im cool but however we miss you!Your homeboy misses you everyday and since you left he has really changed. I feel funny talking to you this way but I know you reading this. He needs you to look out for him, help him to learn from this tragedy, and restore the pieces of his heart that he lost the day he lost you. I love ya and I think about you all the time. Later!

This incident was truly a tradegy. As a mother not a day goes by that I don't wonder what I could have done differently.I worked hard to raise my child to be the best he could be. So you judging me is nothing compared to me judging myself. I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR MY SON'S FREEDOM

LOL..I never said anything about Lil Dedric being a "good little Boy" or did I. You have your opinion and I have mine. And if I said this to "you" in another conversation, then nothing has changed. God will judge Dedric because man is not able.....
