very well said! Im one of the children and we have suffered ENOUGH and never got any answers! That day changed our lives forever & we have to live with something someone else did to our wonderful father every single day. I wish she could take a walk in our shoes!
I want you to know that there are a lot of people in the community who have not lost sight of the real victims. Your Father was a real hero and made huge sacrifices to make the community a better place. We will never forget him. In my eyes, he is like Jesus, who also died from the sins of others. May God bless you and your family. I pray all this maddness is over soon and you all can have the respect and peace that you deserve.

Thank you for your comment. We tried to let this go when we chose to not go for the death penalty. We wanted are lives to be as normal as they could possibly be as soon as possible. Things are still going on with this and its been almost six years. So thank you for your thoughts it truly means alot to our family to still know people care.

I can not believe Mary Barksdales audacity!! The family chose to spare her sons life and she disrespects the family like this!!! I agree with several of the other posts, if she does get money, it should ALL go to the officers families, and if not I hope she goes as far away from Alabama as she can get---like to the moon!! I think that woman is the most hated woman in Alabama! My heart also goes out to the families of the officers. They shouldn't be going through this. It is truly a shame!

I cannot believe the hate here in huntsville. Like another person posted...this mother did NOTHING! It was her son and even though he did kill 2 people he didn't and nobody deserves to be mistreated in prison regardless what they did. This mom suing the state has nothing to do with the other families...it's about her son dying while in prison. God said YOU be the one to cast the first stone...nobody did either did they. Maybe you all shouldn't judge until you are in their shoes. I think she did what any mother would do...protect her child! That is what mom's are for.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the officers families!!! Try putting YOURSELF in THEIR shoes for just one minute! Didn't you read that their familes spared him the death penalty! Now they have to hear crap from idiots like you on top of everything else!

Well put Joe. I completely agree. If you have a dog, you look out for it you don't get down on the ground and start scratching your flees with your leg. IE just because they are watching animals does not mean that our prison system employees should act like the animals.

What a freaking waste. He got everything he had coming to him. Did that freaking looser give the family of the officers he killed 750,000? No and it is complete BS that anyone would support his parents getting money. He is a grown man and they don't deserve anything. They should donate that money to the fallen police officers.

Yes two wrongs do not make a right but why reward the family of a killer. And who is to say that he was neglated. No one knows for sure.

Yes he was a cop killer but he didn't deserve to die this way. He was going to serve out his sentence in jail, but the prison system saw a way for him not to. As to the other officers who died I bet their familes received more than the $750,000 with all of the donations and memorials that were set up to help the family in there needs. Everyone lost someone in this situation. The Prison system saw a way of an eye for an eye, this man took two lives so the decided on their own to take his life and ignore his health issues.

what do you want to bet that the guards know an awful lot about this death. Hey, he killed 2 police officers.....The guards dont like cop killers. They were wrong in what they did, but that is how the system works, unfortunately. Im all for his family in sueing the state. They cant just get away with killing someone and walk free

So I wonder how the states going to pay for this? They could barely repay the state income checks last year and years before. Just curious how much did the officers not recieve dying in the line of duty, The state should have their spouses and children taken care of for life.

I don't understand why the mother went after the state for so long to give her records on her son, yet when she got that nice juicy settlement, she agreed for it to be hidden since January 2009!!! Don't the taxpayers have just as much right to know that as what goes on in the prison system?

It is a well known fact that prisoners are treated inhumanely in most prisons. Especially if you kill a police officer. Oh, and would someone explain to me why the murder of 1 human being is worse that the murder of another? If for instance Barksdale had killed your average Joe on the street, somehow that would have mattered less. Isn't that the way it's generally viewed? I wonder how many of the hate posters consider themselves christians? Wasn't there a kid killed a while back who was put in thunder dome in Madison County jail? I think he was in for possession of marijuana. What ever came of that? And not to forget the case of Brandy Brazelton. Yeah, the girl who had her throat cut by an officer who did 10 years or so in the country club prison in south Alabama where a couple of the Watergate guys had their little vacation. Private rooms and the like. Gotta love justice.
The God that I pray to at night said something like "Judge not lest ye be judged", "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord" and so forth. I think Jesus had much to say on this as well. I'm not defending a murderer here, I'm just saying there's way to much hate, and no sincere attempt at rehabilitation in most prison facilities.

Since when is it ok to kill someone for killing others? This guy has been in and out of mental facilities. I love how everyone picks their sides and completely forgets about the other. Yes-it is a tragedy for the cops families and there will be nothing that will mend their broken hearts and families. But it is also a tragedy to first find out that your mentally disturbed child just killed someone then turn around and in less than a weeks time he mysteriously dies and you have no answers? Are you going to sit there with an "oh well" additude? No. You would want answers too. It is not the mother's fault. How many of you spend 100% of the time with your children?

I think his mom should get more!!I have been in prison @ Tutwiler,My charge was not serious at all. I got into a confrontation with another inmate. When the officers came,I went to him so he could put cuffs on me.Instead he grabbed me and threw me on the floor, putting his knee in my chest.I could not breathe at all!! He would not get off of me finally another officer made him get up.But it was too late he had broke some of my ribs. I kept begging for medical attention, instead of them helping me six officers beat me again while I was bound with handcuffs & shackles.
The prison systems need something theres no telling how many thay have killed & got away with it. When your in there you have no help!!I am a woman this was male officers & female who did this.In one day I got three seperate beatings just for begging them to help me.

Good grief people! Does anyone think about how the prison officers are treated by inmates? People are not in prison because they are upstanding citizens! They are being punished not staying at the Hilton! Oh wait, I forgot, everyone in prison is innocent, right? This post is for responses to this particular case. Bringing other prisoners in on it is stupid. The world is full of injustices. That's life. Deal with it!!! Frankly, I don't care what happened to Farron. At least now he won't be killing any "aliens."

Farron had a lot of mental problems, and did his best with what he had. but guess what we all have our problems so who are we to judge??? For all we knew he was out of his meds. and couldnt get them filled because he didn't have the money to, so that makes him a bad person??? if that is the case then we are all bad people if we have to take medicine and run out and are broke.. what I am tryin to say is dont judge someone unless you know them and don't judge them then because when you point 1 finger at someone you have 3 more pointing back at you

People with real disabilities have medicaid. Yes, we all have problems but don't go around ambushing innocent people. He was judged and pled guilty by the courts. Sounds like several people didn't take their meds. An eye for an eye brother!

The Old Testament concept of an eye for eye died along side Christ when he was crucified upon the cross.

Matthew 5:38
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Matthew 5:43
Ye hath heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you.

So if you have a "child" that has a mental illness and knew he purchased an assault riffle wouldnt you take it out of the house? If you knew your brother was mentally ill would you drive him over twenty miles away to buy a gun...seriously doubt it.WE NEVER GOT ALL THE ANSWERS WE WANTED EITHER. If Mary barksdale wanted answers so bad why did she take the money? To this day my family has no idea why he did what he did and we will never know. If some people knew the details the families know people may have changed opinions.
