"$85.25 to $125 to $480" is outrageous to pay for water. What did Birdsboro do? Line the water pipes with gold? The lady with the $6200 water bill and has been without water for 3 weeks should just move. It'll be cheaper than paying that much money for water. OUTRAGEOUS!

Wait for the Obama Stimulus and the Govt. will pay for all water. HaHa. It is a cash cow for Reading and municipalities, saying they have to do this and do that but look at Reading they make huge profits on their water/sewer rates only to funnel the profits into city hall somewhere??? It is a losing battle until enough people get Bal*s and get the crooks out of office.

Maybe someone should look into why we have to send our money to a Maryland company to collect. The borough is paying an outsource company to collect our bills. even if you pay your bill at M & T bank they in turn send it to Maryland so than if you are paying on time its still late cause they have to send it out. I am surprised not more than 11 people haven't been shut off. Birdsboro is a low income area and i feel bad for the people that cannot afford the bill. i personally struggle with paying it myself...... i think the borough as set a stanadard fee for each household because we have tried to conserve and it still remains the same. we basically are paying for a loan that the borough could not afford. so lets just send the debt to the residents to worry about. this is ridiculos.

The best Dean Miller can suggest is to work with a Collection Agency??? Is he nuts?

And how do we join the Birdsboro Residents Against the Municipal Authority?

PLEASE watch this film!
The Water Front is the story of an American city in crisis but it is not just about water. The story touches on the very essence of our democratic system and is an unnerving indication of what is in store for residents around the world facing their own water struggles.(53 minutes, 2007)

These water bill payments (It was $85.25, went to $125 and then $480 just like that.) are they quarterly or monthly?

Either way it's very high! But I'm curious.

I believe it's very expensive treating water and sewer, but one thing has been clear, these authorities do spend money wildly on elaborate buildings, planting flowers, at the homeowners (users) expense.

One example of this abuse was the plant just north of Sellersville in Hilltown township Bucks County. There was tons of wasted money spent on frills!

I'm sure it's the same for Birdsboro and many other towns and townships. Some change is needed!

Did they that Union township is using roughly 25% of the capacity of the water system? If so, shouldn't 25% of the sewer plant repair cost be passed on to them?

That is good but it may not come in time to help the people who have no water or even the rest of us who are struggling to keep ours flowing.

Hello all, First off I want to thank the Reading Eagle for giving us the attention that this needs. Wfmz was at the meeting as well along with an interview they did with me. BRAWA will shortly have a website up and running to make sure that the residents are informed as to what is taking place. There is a lot of information than just the high rates we are paying. We also need to pay attention to our Water Treatement Facility.....more coming on this....And it will lead to some interesting conversations around town with a survey coming from our authority...Birdsbor Municipal Water Authorities website is up and running as well....so for those of you that want to see what our rates are like, I suggest you take some time and do a comparison,,Their website address is: www.birdsboroma.com Thank you for those that are getting on board with BRAWA and understand that this will be a political movement within the Borough to make sure that the decisions made by our Municipal Authority are well thought out before enacted and the residents within the community have a voice

Just to let people know, the "collection agency" that is supposed to work with you does not. Well you need to pay your bill in full is working with you than I guess they do. I had to go and pay my bill, it was $313 for 4 people, the bank only takes check or money order, the borough does not seem to care anymore. The only person that did seem to care and accepted whatever you could pay, was fired, because they weren't beating down doors. The water treatment plant was not needed, they just want to raise the price on something, once this is all done our taxes will go up again, so be warned.
