The preliminary plan for 12,500 homes in New Morgan has been approved by council and the first phase of 500 homes will begin next year along rt 10.
The developers, Arcadia and Carlino are trying to convince people that surrounding communities will not be negatively impacted by additional traffic problems. They want to construct a new interchange on rt. 176 just north of the turnpike interchange. They have hired a lobbying firm to try and get tens of millions of dollars of our taxes to pay for it. They have already gotten 5 million to widen rt.10 through their new development. Rep. Jim Gerlach is proud of helping these barons stuff their pockets. Thanks for the update, Jim.

Why should the taxpayers foot this bill? Where are the citizens of Berks and why aren't they vigorously fighting against this PUD, since it is going to create more harm than good to the locals, taking into account all of the negative factors into account.

It is going to be a very costly bill indeed. The developers plan includes two elementary and one middle school to be built in New Morgan. It will cost us, the taxpayers about 35 million dollars!!

Yes there is one just as you get off the Morgantown exit of the Pa. turpike.
Really check the area out prior to buying.
It seems to be a secret till you move in.
There are many people moving out of the area when
they find out about the landfills.

It's interesting to hear all of the negative comments about Morgantown, especially from people in such premier areas of Pa. such as Reamstown and Birdsboro. Morgantown was a dead zone until progress started being made in the form of new development...primarily from sprawl from the Philadelphia suburbs. Some of the comments on the forum are typical of the backwoods, anti-Philadelphia mentality in much of this state. This area may have some black eyes, but it property values continue to rise and economic progress continues. Morgantown has a lot of potential if the rednecks will do all of us a favor and move further west.

Just think all those new overpriced homes will allow the hispanics more jobs ,lawncare ...ect . And all cheaper morgantown aptartments and homes will get infected like the rest of the county, thanks to the fact our county lawmakers and goverment allow these actions.

The developers of Bryn Eyre may be trying to sell their property in New Morgan. The future of the project is now up in the air. Read about it @ http://groups.google.com/group/New-Morgan-Wat...

I'm so concerned for this area with landfills and the increased rates of cancer. Is there any information on if the landfills are near full.
And if they will ever be closed?

Phil,

It seems I've struck a nerve with you. I'm not sure if I would consider myself a materialistic elitist. I will say this, Phil. The amount of landfills in Berks County and the surrounding area is appaling. From my perspective, Berks County gobbles revenues from businesses that destroy the quality of life, i.e. landfills, youth detention centers. New Morgan is a toilet. How's that for elitist? Furthermore, it would appear that the government in this county is completely inefficient and backwards. Do you think Chester or Montgomery Counties would ever allow this amount of undesirable real estate. My only regret is that Caernarvon Township is part of Berks County.

Linda,

My understanding is that the landfill was recently approved by DEP for another extension. I don't recall the exact time frame, but the landfill will be here for several more years. I share your concerns about Cancer risks.

Is there any public information, or studies that have been done in the morgantown area.

I'm not aware of any studies. I can tell you that if you live in Caernarvon Township (Berks), don't expect any help from them. I have found the township staff to be very secretive and inconsiderate of residents.
