Community grocery store gets go-ahead

Thanks in part to a $70,000 loan approved by the Hitchcock County development board, residents of Stratton expect they'll be able to shop at their own community grocery store later this fall. via Beatrice Daily Sun

Let it go man .... It will never work. There isn't enough money in that whole town to buy a pack of bubble gum let alone keep a grocery store open. I guess the drug problem really is a problem in rural Nebraska. Get off the crack pipe!

I was born, raised and graduated from Highschool in Stratton. I also worked and was a part owner of one of the grocery stores in the 50 & 60's. Our problem then was being competetive with McCook but we were able to do it. Now the competition is more competetive. If the new store can keep the prices close to McCook prices, then they might succeed but it is going to be a struggle. I can only wish you all good luck. Huskerbuc probably hasn't been there to know there is enough money there to buy him, his friends and family out. Money isn't the important thing anyway, it is lifestyle in the area.

I agree with Huskerbuc. Southwest Nebraska is only good for those that have inbred with the other locals for several generations. Despite the obvious effects of inbreeding, they all make sure they look out for each other and are quite hostile to anybody that arrives and threatens to expand the gene pool. Usually, the inbreds mark themself by saying things such as "geeeeezzz." LMAO.
