I see alot of topics on here about alot stupid things. Shouldn't we be using this site to inform people of the dangers that we have here in town. If you go to the FBI website ( www.fbi.gov ) you can find all the sex offenders here in Birch Tree. The only problem with the site is that they list the mailing addresses as their home address. Lets talk about these people, where do they really live?

Did you know that if you get caught urinating in public you will be on the sex offender list? Even if it is in an alley, behind a building or on the side of a road, if you are seen by anyone you will be considered a sex offender.

Yeah, 99% of us are on the list for peeing in an alley. Leave us alone!

funny. I bring that point up to show that it compromises the integrity of the list. The sex offender list is a very serious subject. Only sex offenders should be on it. If they put people on it who are not offending sexually, it compromises the importance of the list. Similar to women who cry rape when they actually were not raped..It compromises the very serious nature of rape and takes away from the people who are truly raped.

Maybe you didn't get that. Maybe you disagree. I think that we need to be careful what we label who so as to be accurate and able to protect ourselves from a potential threat and not downgrade a very useful tool by lumping people in on it that should not be.

why my post disapeared, I don't know...

My point was that the sex offender list is very serious. If you put people on that list that are not sexual offenders it compromises the importance of the list. Similar to women that cry rape when they have not been raped, it compromises the integrity of the very serious crime of rape.

We need to be sure that the sex offender list is making us aware of potential threats so we can be aware and protect our children. When you put people on a list as serious as this and lump people who have peed in public with child molesters and rapists you compromise the integrity of the list, not to mention ruin people's lives.

I think you're funny. You original post from yesterday didn't make that point at all. Your post seemed intended to devalue the sex offender list as a tool to protect our communities. Have you heard of a single person who is on the list for peeing in an alley? I haven't.

I know two people in oklahoma. So yes. Both at two a.m. in an alley behind a club in bricktown, at different times.

I also have a friend who was going through a divorce and her soon to be ex husband turned her in for child pornography, in his fight for custody, for a picture she had taken of her newborn son, laying naked, on his stomache. The prosecutor later threw it out but because charges were initially filed, it cost her 15,000 dollars to have her name expunged from the sex offender registry in the state of Michigan.

Again, if you allow people to be put on there that are not sex offenders, it devalues the list.

My intention was not to devalue the list but make people think. You know, too, that if an eighteen yr old has sex with a fifteen yr old he can be on the list. Happened in Wisconsin to a distant cousin. Senior and sophmore boyfriend and girlfriend, dating for months. Just before she turned sixteen they broke up. Daddy got mad, although the relationship was ok before that. The boy was charged with statutory rape. He will spend the rest of his life on the sex offender registry.

Extreme cases? maybe but they devalue the importance of the list.

Hey Just Me, if not already, you should be an attorney or a politician. You're hard to disagree with.

My counselor in college told me I should have been an attorney.

And I am not trying to be disagreeable. Honest.

I am tired of all the political correctness, you know? If you just go back to the golden rule it is so much simpler.

Yeah! You make some good points, but I already knew all this. It doesn't matter what the sex offense is mooning, peeing in an alley, having premartial sex, rape, incest, raping of children, molestation you are going to be on the list. Sorry that's the law.

Have you even looked at the list on either of the web-sites that were mentioned. Can you tell me where these offenders are since you just know so much about the list.

I'm soooo sorry for all the people wrongly placed on the list, but I'm here trying to find out where all the scumbags live. I don't care if they are on the list for peeing in the alley, by the way if they were not breaking the law by peeing outside in an alley way they wouldn't be on the list. Also, if you are having sex before you are married or an adult and a minor(male or female) then that's the risk that you take. SORRY!

Anyway, my point I have children and the mailing addresses that they supply doesn't give me an exact location. Are these scumbags in my neighborhood or are they living out in the middle of nowhere? Who knows? Not me because of the inaccurate info.

I understand where both of you are coming from. A man caught "shaking hands with the president" should not be placed in the same classification as child molesters and rapist. They should not have to suffer the way a true pervert does. Maybe they should have different classifications for these non violent offenders.

Thank you, my view, that was part of my point. The other part was that the list is no longer, or maybe it never was, the authority of where the sex offenders are. Maybe if they only put sex offenders on it, they would find it easier to keep up. Hm?

I don't know why you are attacking me. I am sure you never do anything illegal. I wonder if you would like to be forced to be publicly humiliated because you went ten over on the highway and got at ticket?

I mean, if you break the law you deserve whatever punishment they deal out, correct?

ooh..SORRY

I not sure if it's a matter of public humiliation or not, but anytime you get a speeding ticket it's a matter of public record.
You can go look them up on case net court dockets.

And if someone breaks the law, it should be the same punishment for everyone!!!!
No some people do not deserve what they have gotten, there are alot of innocent people imprisoned in this world!!!! Thank God for people like the ones that work for the Innocence Project.

Holy hell. I thought this was the birch tree forum. Did I miss something?

The difference is, Elaine, that people don't move out of neighborhoods because of speeders. They don't tell speeders where they can live and who they can associate with. If a speeder is seen talking to a child or passing out candy, nobody cares. If a guy that happened to piss in public does he faces some very serious consequences. That would be the point I am trying to make. It is a list that should give us appropriate information in order to protect our families. When you put people on there that do not belong there, it takes away from the mission and purpose of the list...to protect the public. The side effect is that it ruins the life of some poor schmuck that had to pee before he got home.

The innocence project is a wonderful project. The law, which is being addressed in Oklahoma because of the amount of people wrongly assigned to it,btw (remember, it is a money maker for the police department too), is what needs to be addressed.

Nobody is addressing the punishment according to the laws broken. My point would be that we need to be mindful of what type of sex offense landed someone on this list. Do you really think it's fair that joe citizen, who pissed in public outside a bar while in college at OU should be restricted in where he lives, what type of work he does and who he associates with for that reason?

http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/article.aspx...

He signed a citation but according to Oklahoma law he will have to register as a sex offender.
