On Charlie Rose last night (Jan. 30, 2013) Microsoft's Bill Gates said,"without a doubt for very little extra expense fracking can be done very safely".

Gates believes that the problems with fracking have been overstated.

Pure and simple.

I mostly agree with the statement that "without a doubt for very little extra expense fracking can be done very safely""... but the unforunate truth is that there are too few companies in the industry willing to spend that little bit of extra money / have that little extra expense to make the process safer...

Thanks for helping highlight one of the issues many people in NY and the Southern Tier area have with fracking !

31 states are now fracking...only New York State does not get it.

The worst place in the nation to do business.

The best place in the nation to be on welfare.

May 2012 - "Vermont first state to ban fracking"

Also and in regard to your claims about NY and welfare... as I pointed out in another post...

Over the past 20 years... of the federal taxes that NYers and NY based companies have paid... 1 TRILLION of those taxes were redistributed to other states... so I find it odd to see someone saying NY is so terrible for business and saying its a welfare state...

Unless you meant / were trying to say you think we are supporting the welfare systems of other states with our tax dollars ?

Here Are The 10 Worst States For Businesses In America

You'll notice something funny about the worst states to do business, which were identified by the conservative Tax Foundation. They include some of America's biggest state economies, like New York and California.

But whatever your politics, it's clear that these states tax the hell out of local businesses.

States were ranked based on analysis of taxes for corporations, individual income, sales, unemployment insurance and property.

#10 North Carolina Corporate tax rank: 26 Individual income tax rank: 15 Sales tax rank: 7 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 43 Property tax rank: 18

#9 Rhode Island Corporate tax rank: 14 Individual income tax rank: 16 Sales tax rank: 37 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 1 Property tax rank: 4

#8 Minnesota Corporate tax rank: 7 Individual Income Tax Rank: 13 Sales tax rank: 13 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 12 Property tax rank: 33

#7 Maryland Corporate tax rank: 37 Individual Income Tax Rank: 2 Sales tax rank: 40 Unemployment Insurance Tax Rank: 4 Property tax rank: 11

#6 Iowa Corporate tax rank: 4 Individual Income Tax Rank: 9 Sales tax rank: 20 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 18 Property tax rank: 17

#5 Ohio Corporate tax rank: 12 Individual Income Tax Rank: 7 Sales tax rank: 16 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 40 Property tax rank: 6

#4 Connecticut Corporate tax rank: 33 Individual Income Tax Rank: 4 Sales tax rank: 25 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 21 Property tax rank: 2

#3 New Jersey Corporate tax rank: 10 Individual Income Tax Rank: 6 Sales tax rank: 15 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 24 Property tax rank: 3

#2 California Corporate tax rank: 18 Individual Income Tax Rank: 3 Sales tax rank: 2 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 37 Property tax rank: 35

AND THE WORST STATE TO DO BUSINESS IN IN 2010:

#1 New York Corporate tax rank: 31 Individual income tax rank: 1 Sales tax rank: 17 Unemployment insurance tax rank: 5 Property tax rank: 9

Now, things have gotten better in NY in the last two years. But to add insult to injury, using Michaelís mention of Vermont, well , it dropped down below NY among the worst states in 2012!!!

How can Michael be so wrong about so much so often?

Yes we get it...

You believe that New York is so bad... that over the past 20 years we've only generated an extra TRILLION dollars for the federal government to hand out to other states...

LOL !!!

Seriously... if you want something to complain about... complain about how so much of our money is funneled off to other states... because quite simply - that trillion dollars we've lost that way - it's a big part of the reason why our other taxes are so darn high...

Oh right...

We're supposed to just ignore that part of the equation... and listen to your rants about how you think the high taxes etc. are due to the gas companies not being allowed to frack our segment of the Marcellus formation... even though those high taxes have been in place for decades and they just started doing the horizontal fracking on the Marcellus a half dozen years ago...

Sheez.

No Michael it isn't what I believe it is what numerous business publications around the country have published for years now.

Gov. Cuomo himself cites these references and says the same thing in his own speeches. He says he is changing things. And he is, fracking will help and it will be in NYS soon, despite people like you.

Oh alright then...

I await links to those many non-industry articles that you're going to provide to us... but for some reason have forgotten to provide over the past year...

LOL !!!

Seriously though... the oil and gas industry are known to suffer from boom / bust cycles... so much so that it is THE industry that is used as an example in most economics classes when that cycle is discussed...

We're still waiting for those articles that it appears you cannot provide any examples...

It's no wonder why you were voted Broome County's Biggest Liar - twice.
