Maybe they were all arguing or talking on the cell phone Other than those reasosn, I cannot understand how a young man could crash a car into a brick wall with his whole family with him.

The article in the paper it said the car's brakes failed. People crash all the time and it's not necessarily due to arguing or talking on the phone. Ever hear of people crashing from having a heart attack or other medical related problem? Or people falling asleep at the wheel? Mechanical failure? It happens all the time.

Falling asleep at the wheel is just pure incompetence. Take a nap.
Ever hear of using the emergency brake or shifting in reverse? That road is 30 mph also, it's not a highway.

I'm glad you know exactly what to do when your brakes fail. I imagine in his panic he never thought to shift in reverse or use the e-brake. An unfortunate error on his part. I can't say that my wits would be about me if I were headed towards an accident.

If his brake lines blew out (or were cut), what makes you think the e-brake would work in any case?

The emergency brake uses a steel cable linking the brakes to the pedal... so that if the normal hydralics go - it will still work...

That's good to know! Either way, chances are there are people who wouldn't think of that if they're in a panic.
