Natural gas production

Nope, this isn't a fracking thread... lol !

Anyway...

Some of us had a discussion of sorts about generating methane / natural gas using a anaerobic "digester" that breaks down sewage, manure and other organic waste into methane for power generation... along with material safe to use as a fertilizer... and part of that talk was about whether there were any large systems in place in the USA... and at that time I wasn't aware of any... but I ran into this story today:

http://www.telegram.com/article/20130303/NEWS...

So there are some commercial examples of digesters being used in the US... and not only that - if the story is correct - it looks like Massachusetts is looking at building a municipal system or two based on those designs...

Just thought it was interesting and thought maybe some of those that participated in that earlier discussion might find it interesting also...

Thanks Michael. It would be interesting to see a price tag and total cost of completion. I would like to build around it and make it look like a barn. And in the city and towns of Broome they could paint it to look like a carousel.

I know they can be built fairly cheaply because it is something that is done - though not quite as high tech - in a lot of poorer areas... for example I know there are quite a number of small systems like that being used by communities over in India...

But you're right...

The question is - once the government gets involved... will they do it right or will it turn into some overblown and overly expensive monstrousity...

What I've done and will wait to see what happens... is to go to their state website and send in inquiry about any online / other information they could throw my way... just a curious citizen who might like to bring the idea to the table in / around our area...

I agree. There are company's who make similar infrastructure's of this much needed means of turning waste into energy. Here's another way of creating jobs and what looks like to be of no concern to anyone in anyway, but then there's the sticky fingers creating new rules and red tape to prolong progress.
