Abdelazim REFUSED to answer questions, Preston endorsed

Can the choice be any clearer:
The Broome County Independence Committee has a history of endorsing both Republicans and Democrats. Last year, Preston, a Republican, earned the endorsement in her successful first campaign for County Executive. In 2008, former County Executive Barbara Fiala, a Democrat, earned the nod.
Mr. Battisti added, "We held formal interviews with Debbie Preston and Tarik Abdelazim. Debbie provided thoughtful and detailed answers about cutting costs, creating jobs and stopping business-as-usual party politics. Tarik Abdelazim refused to answer several of our basic questions and couldn't provide details about his plans for economic development and other issues. The choice was clear: Debbie Preston is the County Executive we need."
What questions did Abdelazim refuse to answer?????

Broome County Executive Debbie Preston of Conklin said,“I’ve been out knocking on doors every day and have heard the taxpayers loud and clear. They want me to keep shaking up County Government. We’re working to create jobs, cut costs and make government more open and accountable. We’ve gotten a lot done so far in just eight months, and I’m just getting started.”
Really Debbie? Why don't you list your accomplishments.....
How about a bio?
Because you have nothing you can't.
What have you gotten done in eight months?

A three member panel... where one member is Libous' director of operations... and another member is a current Preston appointee AND a former Libous staffer...
I wonder how she got them to nominate her instead of Abdelazim... lol !

Abdelazim stated the endorsement process for the Independence Party lacked integrity and reflected total control by Senator Tom Libous and his benefactor, Ms. Preston.
The three member endorsement committee was comprised of:
- Chairman Paul Battisti
- Tina Ruocco, current Director of Operations for Senator Tom Libous
- Brett Noonan, former Deputy Counsel to Senator Tom Libous and current Broome County STOP-DWI Coordinator, who Preston appointed to the position effective January 1, 2012
“I walked into the endorsement process and was shocked to see the composition of this committee, particularly Mr. Noonan, a current Preston appointee, who has direct self-interest in her re-election,” said Abdelazim.“As I sat there being interviewed, and was being tape recorded, I thought of the more than 5,000 Independence Party members in Broome County who would be outraged by this rigged process. So in order to defend their interests, and protect the integrity of our political process, I decided we would try to offer them a real choice come September, the primary election. I am proud to announce that tomorrow we will be making that official.”
Abdelazim previously expressed his concerns in a June 21st letter to Chairman Paul Battisti, immediately following the interview, noting Mr. Noonan's serious conflict of interest, and overall lack of integrity in the endorsement process. Abdelazim wished Chairman Battisti luck in restoring integrity to the process,“because the thousands of Broome County voters registered as “Independents” deserve transparency, honesty, and an endorsement process that is free of 'special interest power brokers and political operatives.'”(Quote obtained from the NYS Independence Party website: http://independencepartyny.com/ .... See attached copy of Abdelazim’s letter to Chairman Battisti.)
“Ms. Preston is always touting her respect for the people, so I can only assume she welcomes this vigorous exercise of democracy, in which we allow the will of the people to fairly determine who best represents their party values, not a powerful Senator and his many political operatives,” stated Abdelazim.

I'm pretty sure Tarik did this not to won their endorsement, but rather highlight what a sham it was. Everybody, except for Ed, knows Libous controls that party and even funnels money through it.

I have to laugh at people that want the educational background of a person who is 60 years old and has been in public office for almost 20 years.
College kids no doubt, who don't know better.
You want a bio, there, Whiz Kid??? Go to the Broome County web site, you'll find one.

What a glowing endorsement of herself. Too bad she left out most of the 'accomplishments'.
No mention of her embezzlement?
No mention of her education?
No mention of her adultery?
No mention of her threatening the citizens of Conklin with a 4% tax increase in order to keep the full time job she invented for herself?
Not to mention the laundry list of lies that she has been trying to pass off as her accomplishments while she has held the position of County Executive?
How typical of her. And you.

With 20 years working in government and yet it seems no one has any idea about even her basic education credentials... absolutely amazing and something should be done about it !
Though unlike you... I am not sure whether we should all be laughing as you are - or crying over the situation...

Apparently Preston had all the credentials needed to beat Pat Brennan, the former incumbent!!!!
#12 Sep 11, 2012
As already pointed out - no one seems to know what her credentials are... even your post helped to highlight that fact...
And as I said before...
Thank you for pointing that out to everyone... and your concern about why she seems opposed to even providing what I would think was simple biographical information...
#13 Sep 11, 2012
She did beat Brennan, right?????
Do you have difficulty reading:
"A native of the Town of Conklin, Mrs. Preston was elected to the Town Board in 1995 before being elected Town Supervisor in 2002. "
TEN YEARS AS TOWN SUPERVISOR.....
How many elections has she won???? Four five, six????
And Abdelazim has won how many? Oh zero.
Zero also happen to be the number of the sum total of his life so far.

So what you are trying to say is that you fully support career politicians... and that once a person is elected to office - that means that they should automatically get elected / given any other office they run for...
Interesting ideas you have there... what's next - you suggesting we introduce a monarchy or dictatorship ?
#15 Sep 11, 2012
I have to agree with you on that.
#16 Sep 11, 2012
I didn't know Arzouian was on the ballot this time.
Sounds like he will have a tough time since Preston was endorsed by the Indepedence Party after Abdelazim failed or refused to answer some questions. That was stupid of him, wasn't it????
What questions were those, BTW????
#18 Sep 11, 2012
"Tarik Abdelazim refused to answer several of our basic questions and couldn't provide details about his plans for economic development and other issues. "
Couldn't provide details about his own economic development plan!!!!!!!
Pretty darn funny.

How exactly is the Binghamton Independence Party Independent?
Binghamton's "Independence Party doesn;t even follow the first, and most important item, on its Mission Statement:
To be an Organization in which candidates emerge from the grassroots and work diligently to achieve “mass appeal” based on their unique leadership qualities, character and competence and not because they rose through the political ranks supported by special interest power brokers and political operatives.
#20 Sep 11, 2012
They chose interesting wording there... but not surprising since one of the committee members works for Libous and the other is one of Preston's appointees...
So it leaves me thinking... couldn't or wouldn't...
The thing is that based on what I've learned about Ms. Preston i.e. via her own press releases... she seems to have a habit of co-opt and claiming credit for the ideas and programs of others... and knowing that and knowing the allegiance of those on the committee - I wouldn't have bothered answering them either...

Good find !
So we have a committee that consisted of:
- one current Libous staffer
- one former Libous staffer that is now a Preston appointee
- one "independent" that believes so much in the independent cause that he donates to the Republican party...
Again... golly gee...
I wonder why Preston, who is supported by Libous and running as a Republican got the nomination...
#24 Sep 11, 2012
It is well known secret that Battisti is a Libous lackey. I almost think I read that he worked for Libous. As soon as I find that, I'll post.
