They are most likely afraid to speak up do to the fact that its nearly impossible to get another job right now....some money is better than none....a work clinic is better than no insurance at all...just because the staff puts up with these stressful work conditions doesn't mean its right...apparently a lot a of "important" people are to blame but whomever the original investors were did not hire the right management from the beggining...i worked there 3 weeks and walked out because they have no policies and procedures...you can't have fun and easy with money!!! Its said it has turned out the way it has...it could have been great with the right marketing and management from the get go...now its to little to late

See that's what ticks me off. I don't really care if private investors lose money on a project but if they're using tax payer backed bonds or incentives its basically a corporate employment plan, only it never really put too many to work & the casino kinda sucks.

Anybody who approved those funds, the State Gaming Commission, perhaps some politicians & other state bureaucrats are legally liable & perhaps even took criminal kickbacks/bribes to approve this mess of a project.

I've noted on here before that even in "nominal"(not adjusted for inflation) terms we STILL have not gotten back to peak 2007 gaming revenue numbers. We're still "scraping the bottom of the ground". Even if we do top 2007 numbers adjusted for inflation it would take a lot more to get back to where we were.

But part of the reason the Gaming Commission exists is to REGULATE the NUMBER OF CASINOS. Because if they just let in 50 casinos they'll eat up too much market share & it'll hurt the overall market. They also approved a casino in D'Iberville & another backbay one & I hear they may build one in Diamondhead.

All these new casinos won't "create new jobs" -- they'll create new jobs & cause other casinos to either close or lay off workers so you have a net loss overall.

We shouldn't be approving ANY new casinos. We should be trying to shore up the few we have left. The New Orleans ppl who never came back after Katrina were some of our biggest repeat customers. When we lost them we lost a huge number of gamblers & revenue. They need to scrap the D'Iberville project, let the Margarita die, & then scrap the other Biloxi project & put a moratorium on all new casinos on the coast until they get a significant increase in revenues.

I agree with gulf we have a saturation on the coast. Margaritaville was an especially bad deal because they have nothing to give to "cater" to the high rolling gaming community who lets face it are some if the bigger ones that pump money into this local economy under tourism. But there is no draw there for this casino a tiny buffet not hotel no golf course nothing really. I am all for small business and local business but come on- there was is almost no way this approval was a straight up deal. What about boat traffic? I know there was a yacht on opening day or soon after (possibly the man himself's ship) which implied high rollers would be there- any one know?

Never heard the end of story on that young lady that fell, I read in a comment forum on the local news site shortly after I guess a friend wrote in said she was okay; stable; and made sure to say she was not going to sue..... Seems odd why would that come up, then again this is the Internet for all I know the casino could have wrote that at the end of the day one would just hope the young lady is alright.

You waste a vacation? Not so much- To begin with welcome to the Coast and what it has to offer. In quite sure Margaritaville didn't bring you in here you eithe flew yourself/ drove/ or the beau brought you. There is plenty imto do and see outside of the casino. Not to mention at least you only have to visit, see we live breathe an wok here ando this cluster of a casino hurts is a little gaming wise but it destroys us employment wise and our local economy. Look around the industry is shipyards and casinos. CASINOS Lay off frequently so it's a work while you can situation an well the compliant with margarita vile here is it was a huge lie no steady employment was really brought here- hell they had almost every position that would pay to feed a small family filled before the job fair that might I remind you had 2000 people lined up they had to open the doors early or the job fair twice. To break it down for you, imagine times square at New Years only think of all those people trying there luck at. Job to feed themselves and families. Jobs don't pay much here but that first mean the rent is cheap, nor the food.... Sorry to ruin your vacation.

Ugh, Sorry for the misspellings on the post, it belongs on a damn you autocorrect website for sure. I speak and spell perfect English despite my typing above; however you get the point it's not just a matter of a casino it's a source of employment, income to get by with. Where is Mrs Sock now? She was a face of the coast "come on down" we came saw and most ended up laid off. Even bigger but not as important is the issues the investors face- let's not forget they too have new problems, so I ask when is the place supposed to close? Did they even get the harbor/outdoor beer bottle drinking area rebuilt after the latest storm?

I know from first hand also that before Karen "left" it was terrible. I worked in table games and we had WAY to many supervisors on the floor. Maybe with a new man in charge, he will get it going again, if it can be salvaged. They really need a hotel and a better players club. Hopefully it will turn around.

I was @ that job fair. You mean the one off the industrial park road in Gulfport @ that stupid dock restaurant? The one where they made us stand out in the sun & sweat in the heat. And yeah you are right, they were turning away ppl there were so many who showed up. The traffic jam to get in was incredibly long. I stood outside for 4 hours trying to get into the building then waited another 2 hrs while they bullshi**ed us like they were going to employ most of us. Then why they opened up they only wanted to offer me 30 hrs a week with 5 hr shifts....yeah meaning more for me in terms of gas costs. I turned down the job, wasn't worth going out for. And they only wanted to pay 9 bucks an hour. Yeah, lol, no thanks. My friend worked there until half the ppl in his section quit & yet he tried to go part time but they wanted him to remain "on call" 24/7 even though he wasn't making enough to pay his rent so he found himself a second job until they told him to pick one or the other. Pretty sad.

Whoever was managing this clusterf**k needs to be held accountable somehow. And hold accountable the idiots on the Gaming Commission who wasted our hard-earned tax dollars. I agree with you though -- here in this miserable region you "work while you can." And as a former coworker of mine put it "some work is better than no work." Here you take what you can get & work the hell out of it because you won't get anything else.

And to the person who's vacation was ruined -- my STRONG advice -- do NOT come back here. Splurge & go to Vegas or Atlantic City if you want to gamble, its more than worth it. The coast sucks bad, its nowhere near as good as it was after Katrina -- & that's not saying much.

What you mentioned above I think is the big problem around here. Everybody who's in charge doesn't usually know what the hell they're doing & they're usually lazy. They just "know" somebody who gets them a job. A relative, a friend, a former coworker, something like that.So its basically an employment program for their relatives lol.

If you aren't "connected" you're not getting on so to speak.

The casino has already filed Bankruptcy, It is amazing to me that this has been kept quiet by the local news organizations simply because they do advertising with them. Seems that the local news refuses to report what locals already know.

There is a rumor going around that Tom Brosig was forced to leave. Hopefully that is true so they can get somebody in that knows what they are doing. Brosig railroaded that place from what everybody that works there have said. Anything that showed any possible sign of making a profit he shut it down in a matter of weeks. Piss pore management

I wonder if he even wanted the casino to be a success?

So...... we got Brosig out, bankruptcy done, major negative cash flow, accident with girl(understand she's fine), big car/cash giveaways, lots of TV ads(see bankruptcy-WLOX won't report it)and even a new night club opening(Volcano After Dark).....politics? Mr. Buffet's checkbook? the bottom line is: It's still open!!!

It's still open. The question is " for how much longer will it be open?" With loosing over 1million$ last month alone, the question is "how long will the doors remain open??"
