Former teacher faces rape charges

A former city charter school teacher accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student is now facing a rape charge.

I was one of her students.
We all knew her, we all loved her, but from experience, I know that it's the people you hold close that hurt you the most.
I have nothing to say about the charges, and I do not defend her in any way.
I feel that this has gone too far, and if what is claimed is true, then her punishment is fair, if it is not, then let what is to be, be.
The boy is 14. He's a kid, but also an 'adult'.
His actions really can't be judged now. He's under 18. He's under age.
Either way, Cara should have backed up and looked at the facts.
In this day and age, any relationships with kids when it comes to the 'like like' relationships, it's illegal and will come to court.

There's a hypocrisy in our criminal justice system that burdens the system and is made worse by behaviors that are disproportionate to their direct impact on us. For instance, in Europe, where people are more civilized about these issues than we are, many places allow fourteen as the legal age of consent. Now lets take this case. This teacher is being accused of raping a 14 y/o. Our law foolishly and hypocritically says that 14 y/olds don't have the mental capacity to consent to sex. However, if the case involved the same 14 year old boy killing someone, prosecutors would be up in front of a judge saying "that boy knew exactly what he was doing" and would seek to charge him as an adult. It's just another reason why our criminal justice system is a joke.

I am so sorry that my nephew has to go through this. She manipulated and confused him. He is distraught over this situation. He has become withdrawn and non responsive. He needs professional help to sort out what has happened to him. He is a victim of abuse and he will never be the same person he was before all this happened. As a "TEACHER", she was responsible for maintaining a HIGHER STANDARD". She should have NEVER, under ANY circumstances, have allowed HERSELF to engage in any inapproprite behavion. This kind of behavior is becoming "common" for women in the news as well as men. They are allegedly IN CHARGE of the class. What kind of EXAMPLE does this set for the students as well as society? His 14yr old hormones" were raging. She SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER! I feel SORRY for her 3 kids and her husband. The ridicule that they (kids) face will be horrendous. The husband can take care of himself. Hope he can take care of the kids. They're the innocent victim in this case. THROW THE BOOK AT HER!!!!!

earlier i defended cara because she was one of my daughters favorite teacher s.i had met her on numerous parent teacher conferances .she was very caring and understanding .what id like to know is what happened now? and is she that stupid to contact this boy again after everything that has come to light?
