This is not directed at you in particular, but to everyone who dislikes pit bulls. I want all of you to research this issue and find out which breeds are most likely to attack humans. Before you all start Googling I'm going to give you a hint; it's not pit bulls. Not even close.

Pitbulls are just misunderstood! have any of you that are talking bad about them ever met 1? ill bet not. ive been bit by many dogs while training them (a short list includes; chihuahua, great dane, mastiff, pom, and several others) but the one ive been bit by most is the retriever! i can say the only pit ive been bit by was a puppy and i was playing with it, it was a puppy bite! Now to all you ignorant asses ive been training dogs for 20 years maybe you should research before talking stupid!

You're absolutely right! The American Pit Bull Terrier is considered below average for aggression according the American Kennel Association. I wish others would stop stereo typing dog breeds and look at facts. The toy breeds are far more likely to attack someone than any other breed group.

Are you coming to Billings this summer? Are you still doing dog training? My daughter has two very stubborn pit bulls that need some discipline!!

This is a list that I personally have compiled from pro Pit Bull and anti Pit Bull sites as well as news media and other entities. If you notice I have included fatalities caused by all breeds of dogs. The sad thing about the deaths is the age of the children that have been senselessly killed by so-called family pets. Google any of the names to get the reported coverage on the ATTACKS. Note: It wasn't my intent to multi post this list.

Thanks Mutt. I've never seen these fatalities stats. Now I have a rebuttal.
Wikipedia has a list of fatalities by breed going back to 1988. There's a gap in it of about 10 years, I assume because there were no fatalities. So we're really only talking about the last 10 years.
--Pit Bulls lead the charge in fatalities in the 2000's. They are medium-large in size, physically intimidating, a particularly stubborn breed and have very powerful jaws. Once they latch onto something they don't let go. This was noticed by the low-life, gangsta thug wanna-be's subculture who thought they'd be nice arm candy during their next drive-by or mugging, or while guarding their crack dens and prostitutes. Morons like these, fueled by images of pits in rap and hip-hop videos, decided to take one of America's favorite breeds and turn it into something entirely different. The Rottweiler’s and Doberman’s of the 80’s and 90’s weren’t doing it for them anymore, they needed something new to subvert.
--The dog fighters were also hard at work (pits had been used for fighting for a long time) and began a system of inbreeding in pits that ensured a strong, violent, unstable lineage only suitable for fighting.
--The reports I've read about dog attacks (regardless of breed) typically have many of the same elements: unsupervised animals, often neglected or mistreated, not spayed/neutered (makes a HUGE difference in behavior), no obedience training, poor socialization, etc. In short, not bad dogs, just irresponsible owners.
--Fatalities by dog attack are extremely rare in comparison to non fatal attacks. The fact that pits have lead this is a statistic that has been used against the breed undeservedly.
--The American Pit Bull Terrier has been one of America's favorite breeds up until about the 70's, has been on Life magazine's cover 3x, used on Army posters, in popular TV shows, movies, ads, Presidents have owned them as well as Helen Keller.
--Annually there are thousands of dog attacks nationwide. According to the American Kennel Club the pit ranks low on the aggression scale. The fact that deaths are attributed to them is not because of their breed, it's the fact that they are large and can do a great deal of damage.
--The fatalities are a statistic; however, the breed is still not to blame. In fact, few of the fatalities were caused by “Pit Bulls”. More often than not they were pit bull mixes, and many other fatalities occurred because the pit had assistance from other breeds.
--The fact that pits began fatal attacks in the 2000’s has to make one stop and think; this is the period when that subculture of society decided to use the breed as a symbol of power, strength and intimidation and began a fad that wannabe’s and 20 somethings all over the US began to emulate, thus the spike in pit attacks brought on by a spike in irresponsible owners. These morons could have used any breed for this, German Shepherds, Mastiffs…..Poodles….all easier to train, but they chose a known fighting breed excluding all other equally or better adapted breeds. It was a fad.
My daughter has two toddlers and two pit bulls. When she first got the dogs I was mortified at the incredibly poor decision she made. These are killing machines, right? Her decision to get the dogs fits nicely into what I said about pits being a fad. The dogs didn’t appear to be vicious at all and I did my due diligence on the breed and found out a lot about them. I’ve stopped stereotyping the breed and now focus on the deed…….. and the idiot owners. Also, she knows I’ll kill them myself if they ever hurt anyone.

In response to this, I just have to say that if most of billings supposedly feels this way than most of billings must be a bunch of uneducated hillbillies. The truth of that matter is you know very little about the breed therefore your opinion is completely disregarded. Go to school and get a degree on animals. Like me. I'm tired of listening to a bunch of stupid rednecks defend a dog that was bred for killing...its in it's DNA..
they are worthless terrible dogs that have killed more than any other breed...by far.
one attacked and almost killed our dog (This pitbull was owned by a very nice family and I new the pit well)
THEY ARE UNPREDICTABLE.
Pro pit jackA$%es twist the facts so they can keep these monsters around. I hope none of you ever have to see what they really want to do, but no doubt may of you will, all I can do is hope that when your dog turns it turns on you and not some innocent child.

People who own pit bulls that kill or maul should be brought up on felony charges and sent to prison.....I'd rather see a pit owner in prison than a drug dealer.

I moved and now I have another neighbor with two pits that just moved in...they got in my yard once already....I was nice enough to warn the owner....next time i don't care if they come over wagging their tails....it's 3 1/2 mags full of 00 buck shot for both.....and I'll do it with a smile on my face.

Who ever was running around poisoning pits probably had a kid killed by one...dogs are just animals....it is no more cruel to kill a rat than a dog....I could care less how pits are killed, I just happy when they die:)

And, these last two morons on this post Small World and Save Our Children are perfect examples of why someone should have considered euthanizing them before they continue to breed their lack of intelligence into the world. Pit Bulls are not dangerous unless they are trained to be dangerous. They are the most loyal animals in the world. There are NO bad dogs, just bad people who might own dogs. But, apparently, in this case we have two people who are not just bad, but obviously oblivious to their inanity.

I am happy to hear that controlled dogs in fenced yards are welcome in Billings city limits. If your dog makes a mess, clean it up. If you love your dog, and train them to be good, they will be.

Here in North Dakota, which I will be happy to leave soon, there are towns that were stupid enough to not know the truth, and thus passed laws that allow for the euthanization of an animal, even if they've done nothing wrong, other than have the misfortune of being born into the wrong breed. Thus proving that what we Montanans have always known to be the truth: all the North Dakota jokes we told ARE TRUE. They are stupid.(Which makes me wonder if these last two who passed on their particular departure from common sense might actually have hailed from somewhere here in North Dakota.

Perhaps to avoid problems in the future we should euthanize all stupid people before they might harm someone. If you have no facts to back up your case, and you have never had the pleasure of having had these lovable Staffordshires brighten your day, then you ought to keep your trap shut before someone passes a law judging you.
