Is this story true and does it still exist?

Yes it does still exist. The owner has been talking about opening it during the summer for people to see the inside of it. The next time I see her I will ask her is she is still planning on doing it.

Im not sure of the age...but if you will go into JT's bait shop (The shell next to 46) and talk to Elayne she may be able to get more info on if and when the owner is going to open it. I moved out of the area and did not get a chance to talk to the owner personally before I left. Best of luck!

This is very interesting to me and I wondered if they have tours and people are actually allowed to visit there. I am really interested in visiting places that are supposed to be haunted.

I have been in here long time ago.. It was very scary. Haunted is not the word for it. They say slaves were once in the basement, but I dont know that for sure..

The house does exist, my family has lived less then a mile from the house for 20+ years, there is no phyiscal address cause when the enhanced 911 was being updated No one lived in the home and still don't, the owner stays there from time to time, but no mail is delievered there, the house is located on what is now called Bellwood landing road, in cross creeks wild life refuge. Bellwood landing runs into Patricia circle, and also there is still a partically standing iron furnace. The house was built in the 1800, here is some information on the house. I have been in the house many times, I know that slaves built the house and there were slave quaters in the basement. I know that I have felt a strong presence in the home but I am not sure it was due to spirits of the history of the house. It is now fenced off cause of people went in and stole items from the house. My family drive by it every day, the house, has 8 fire places in it. The forer has black and white checked floors, there use to be a grand piano in the room to the right as you walk in the front door. There is a family plot if you are looking at the front of the house, it is to the back and right. There is also a cave across the road and in the woods from the house. The house is owed by a 90+ yr old lady and she isn't to kind to allow outsiders into the home, drive by take pictures, but there really isn't a lot to see, now if you want to go fishing down the road is a great place to do so

My Family & I went to the Bellwood Mansion today. Walking on the side of the fence alone gave me a weird feeling. But when my mama got across the fence she could tell that something has happened there. When I jumped the fence the air seemed like it was dyer. It took my breath away when I got over the fence. There was a tree laying over the fence like it was inviting you to come closer to the house. When you walk up there, there was a old rocking horse on the front porch that stood out. & my mother said in the front window stood out to her. That place is REAL!

I grew up and lived in the area for 40 yrs and know some things about the place. I will agree with "misstea" about the owner not taking kindly to trespassers. I haven't been down there in a long time but the last time I was there, a fence was put up between the road and the property and the place was posted with no trespass signs. I did hear that the reason was some vandals broke in and did some damage and stole some things. Legend has it that the original owner was the one that owned the iron furnace on the property. He used slave labor and wasn't the most savory character nor the most humane. I was told that once the slaves decided to uprise against him. Supposedly, he stopped it and hung some of the ring leaders in the big trees in the front yard as an example and left them hanging there in clear view of the furnace and the other slaves. All of this is what was told as I grew up. I've never been in the house personally but I know people who have and have actually spent the night inside. When I was a teenager it was always talked about as being haunted and it was fun going down there but I've never really heard of anyone actually experiencing paranormal activity there. I think there was a group of paranormal investigators from KY that went there and just stayed on the road and took pictures at night. Supposedly they photographed an orb but I can't verify. If you are looking for activity, I would recommend visiting the Surrender House in town. You can't go in at night however.
