Don't worry about the empty Food City building.
The population of Loudon being what it is, neither Kroger, Ingles, or DG markets will open a 2nd supermarket in there.

It's about protecting their own businesses from competition.(Didn't I say that already?)

They also let Weigels build a convenience store at I-75, exit #72. But nobody on the Planning Commission owns any Valley Marts or Rocky Tops.

Any time will be fine.
It has now been five days. I am still waiting.

Can't anyone explain why the city's current facilities are inadequate?

The nice lady's up front are not union. And if you have ever been in that building you would see that it is fallen apart. And the city is not planning on buying the old hutch building. The are trying to help find a new owner. I think they and the property owners of the downtown have done a great job.

Inadequate is not the same thing as in need of maintenance. If it is falling apart they have allowed that to happen.

Well I have been all through the building and it is far from falling apart. Need more room build mark herrell an office at one of our many parks. Make use of what we have first. If they want a new city hall why not put it at center 75 instead on leasing it out for crop land with a 100k dollar fence. And yes it was that much. Even in good economic times that would be a BAD DREAM

no it was not 100k it was 70k and they are in 1/2 with the county. And yes the old city hall building is in bad shape. You need to look a little closer.

So city hall is like county schools then - if you want money to build new buildings, you stop maintaining the buildings you are in and let them fall into serious disrepair?

What works for the school board should also work for the city?

I have a better idea. Fire whoever is responsible for building maintenance..

Goose I think that's the problem. They don't really have anyone. Brewster doesn't do building maintenance. I'm sure the voters would rather spend 200k on repairs than 2 million on a new building.

The problem is people don't even come close to knowing what they r talking about city hall is not even owned by the city of loudon or loudon county for that matter the whole building in owned by tva that used to be where tva had a office the city has been renting it for one dollar a year so this is why it inadequate and they can't maintain it and the city garage was updated because the fedaral goverment mandates after so many years u have to update because of sanatation reasons because of garbage and waste so this is why they need a new building

And the matter of not having enough money they have a suplus of money just for the building this is why they haven't raised city taxes in 6 years because they have plenty of money for a bulding

Well, heavens YES. Let's spend bukoo bucks on a new building, so we can get out of this oppressive, burdensome $1/year lease!
If I were TVA, and only charging $1/year I think I'd let them do the maintenance also.
There is no reason why they cannot maintain that building, except that it isn't someone's 'dream' building.
Do you even realize what you have told us?

Oh yeah! No tax increases needed for the last 6 years.
And shall we presume that you view this as a serious problem which needs to be corrected?

Funny thing. If u look on the property tax map it shows city hall as being owned by lub. Not TVA. And the city owns the parking lots. And I am sure if it was leased for a dollar a year it would stipulate that lub and the city would be responsible for maintaining it

Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. Anyplace that only costs $1 a year is a good deal. Any town that has been saving that much money on rent should have a pretty good nest egg built up...

The idiots that run loudon already spend every penny they get and waste about half of it.
