yup, speed trappers are still at it in rc.$115 for not slowing down 10 mph in the length of a city block. if you hit the brakes "it's and admission of guilt".

Sadly I believe that is the general attitude of the entire county. Osceola county is widely recognized throughout the state as a backwater podunk joke. One can hardly blame them. Nepotism is rampant, the citizens are treated as 2nd class citizens by the very people they are being paid to serve. If you haven't figured it out by now almost all of the elected or appointed officials have their own agendas, and it doesn't include the well being of the citizens of Osceola. and it's definitely a matter of who you know around the area if you want to avoid any grief. Many people are leaving the area due to the lack of civility from county officials, the self-serving Sheriff's Dept., etc.... etc., etc.

I started this post. and my point was if the elected people of reed city community would work as hard to save businesses and bring new ones in as they do working with police creating speed traps, life would better.it is a shame small that you can not live in a small town where you know and trust each other for the most part. it is sad to see my hometown go from a good place to raise family to a "GHOST TOWN" no jobs,no hope, few things for kids to do but get in trouble but thats another subject.good luck to those who have no choice but to stay.

LeRoy man files recall petition against Osceola prosecutor

By David Moe

Special to the Cadillac News

REED CITY - Prosecuting Attorney James Sims II, in office just 10 months, may face a new challenge outside the courtroom.

LeRoy area resident Steven Williams has asked for approval of a recall petition charging Sims with "(F)ailing to enforce the laws of the State of Michigan, failing to protect the citizens of Osceola County, especially young teenage girls from sexual assaults, and refusing to comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)."

Williams says the impetus for pursuing the action came when a minor girl, while age 15, became pregnant, then bore a child at age 16. The father was 20 years old.

Williams said he believes the father should be prosecuted for statutory rape.

Osceola County Clerk Karen Bluhm said a "clarity hearing" must be held on the recall language no later than Nov. 22, which is a Sunday. The clarity hearing panel is made up of Bluhm, County Treasurer Lori Leudema, and Judge Ron Nichols.

"The purpose of the hearing is to assure there is no confusion over the language of the petition," Bluhm said.

Bluhm also said that while she did not yet have an exact number, for the recall to go before the voters more than 2,000 valid signatures on the petition would have to be collected and presented to her office.

When Sims was asked to comment on the recall attempt, he dismissed the petition as a lot of "hubbub."

Sims said he was not at liberty to discuss the specific case but the facts on the petition "are not at all accurate. We zealously prosecute CSC (criminal sexual conduct) cases in this office. For reasons I can’t disclose, we chose not to pursue prosecution in this particular case."

He also said his office has a "wonderful track record in CSC convictions."

Sims further said that there is a new Attorney General’s Task Force that has been formed to deal with such CSC cases.

"We advised (Williams) about taking this case to them," he said.

When asked about Williams’ allegation that he had failed to comply with a FOIA request, Sims said "she’s a minor. We’re prohibited from giving out any information."

Williams said he filed on October 27 the FOIA request, which has since been denied in writing.

Williams also said that on the same date, he submitted a form to the State Police for a release of public records regarding the investigation. According to Williams, the State Police told him its office had sent all paperwork from the investigation to Sims’ office for disposition where the charges were summarily dropped.

"He just dropped the case," said Williams. "The assistant prosecutor said Sims thought they (the victim and the alleged perpetrator) would probably get back together, and he didn’t want him to have a CSC conviction hanging over (the father’s) head for the rest of his life."

Williams said he feels the system is sending the wrong message. "What they’re telling these guys is that if they get an underage girl pregnant, nothing’s going to happen to them."

Recalls are a waste of money. If you don't like him, don't vote for him in the next election. Most people agree that these CSC charges that occur consensually between 2 people are unfair as the man has to have a label for 25yrs that leads people to think he may be a molester or something. Its the parents fault this girl got pregant by an older man.

what does all this garbage about csc charges have to do with the original post.funny how people can take a simple comment and twist it into some other complaint topic so far off the path that it belongs on another site or topic all together. go figure.

It's the same story every single time...corrupt people in positions of power ruin a community...Judge Susan H. Grant; Judge Ron Nichols; probation officer Ted Platz; (former prosecutor Sandra Marvin)...they pick and choose who they want to persecute. Did you cut them off in traffic; did you take their parking space--all of them are willing to send you to jail for life for "such an offense against them." Don't you people realize that these people are 2nd to God? If not--they will certainly let you know.

I had lived in RC for several years (I no longer do) and I loved living in RC. Nice town; clean; the RC police, as well as the Osceola County deputies were very friendly and willing to investigate a complaint. What is ROTTEN with RC is the people who, for some reason, are able to do whatever they want. A "respected family" of RC had a "punk" teenager who drove his monster truck past Rails To Trails at 70 mph with his fellow grease heads following--they could care less is little kids were riding their bikes; older folks were walking their dogs; etc. I actually knew the parents of the delinquents and spoke with them. What did they do??? Talk to their kids? NOOOOOO!!!! They told their kids that I "reported them" etc. and guess what happened??? My yard began to get littered with beer bottles; McDonald's gargage; horns honking at 2-3-4 a.m. in the morning; spotlights shining in my house; ....WHY?...because I ask you to talk to your kids about speeding past a public walk-way so they wouldn't kill someone and ruin their life. The town of RC is good, it's a few families, who believe that they are ROYALTY, who are ruining the city--and the police who allow them to get away with it. "Shout out" to the Grein and Jeff Pontz families.

You know people who have the attitude about teenagers getting pregnant by a older man. It is not the parents fault you can't sit on your kid.Kids these days have no respect for rules athourity and some are just a little misguided in their decisions. We want our children to grow up but give them no guidelines or disrespect on tv freinds and society in general. Things are not like they use to be work hard love raise a family live a happy life. Now its worry about the bills and if your spouse is cheating on you and working mothers have it real hard three jobs for one person.Too bad so much had to be made in the way of progress instead of good old fashion hard working living people use to have many years ago.

Let me tell you alittle about my opinion of reed city, first jobs are leaving because the city charges to much for them to be here and it cost less in frieght if they are closer to where the suppliers and the demanders are. why would they put new business in reed city when everywhere else they go they can get a break in taxes ect. to create more jobs, reed city doesn't budge and if they do it's because they have a ace in the whole to get it back after a company commits, their solution, to expand the city limits so they can get higher taxes and new taxes from all the business that were outside of city limits. its all pretty simple, they can't get new business to come in, they got way to many hands in the cookie jar and none of them are willing to take their hand out. they also aren't willing to take a pay cut. so everytime a business leaves town they have to up it somewhere else to keep their wages up. this will continue until there isn't anything left and when that happens it will be time to break the piggy bank (yoplait), then things will get interesting

if everyone right now from this day forward got rid of everything and anything that is causing them financial stress, take a minute to breath, then look over their income vs. debt. adjust it so that they are not living over their means by more than 20%. life would be worth living and fulfilling. what is your purpose in life? all those years of school and degrees, for what? what are they? merely tools to make money. it's a fools arrend. you are giving up your life to work to make more money to live beyond your means. when your done and your old and spending your last days in worry of dying what will you look back on. our grandparents had a whole life of experience, ones worthy to tell around a fire. you will be able to tell how you worked everyday from the time you got out of high school and college, that you put in as many hours a day as possible, worked seven days a week and never took a vacation. and probably all that money you made and tried to save will be gone at the time your at your end, funny that means it was all for nothing, this system is good for getting you to take your eye off life and get it on material crap. this is what is happening to reed city and everywhere else, it's caught up to most of us,just some monkeys are to dumb to let go of the bananah to get their hand back.

It's been about 25 years since our family lived in RC, and about 7 years since my last visit, though for only an overnight visit to see a couple of friends. I've been talking with best friends over FB and have went on and on about always wishing that I could move back home, where i grew up and where my closest friends will always be. I just found this post and have read most every comment that's been written for the past 1-2 years and am a little shocked at what all I read. Is life truly this difficult in this town? I plan to visit this summer for a longer visit w/ my family and (I guess) hope that I find the town as friendly as I remember it to be.

yeah, I also agree about Reed City being a currupt and secretive town. I have a friend whos biological father is supposedly responsible for some serious stuff back in the 80's. Like a murder and she kind of felt responsible for helping with as much information as she could. Then she realized there was no way when come to find out theres cops and city council involved. How is justice suppose to be brought to Reed City when the laws are preventing it??? Reed City will not change until the old generation has passed and the new takes over! This murder was the JAnette Roberson Case.

A copy of this belongs on the unsolved murder forum for Reed city... so "a friend" of yours is hiding murder information? Don't you think that the right thing to do is to contact the people that are collecting info on the unsolved murder page? don't you worry that your *friend may be set free by turning in this info, and not be charged for hiding ... if this is the case. Do you think that if it was your mother, your wife, your sister, your aunt, your friend, your neighbor, your church friend, you co-worker.... that you would want the truth to come forward, to be (investigated into), if that what the investigator is doing, or just contact the sister that is looking for info, on the murder page...

Reed City is one of the most disgusting places in Michigan. The small town officials are more corrupt than anyone could imagine. They have been railroading offenders and messing up residents lives for years. In this small town, everybody thinks they know everybody else but, nobody knows anything about them selves. The cops, judges, court officers, and just about every town representative are corrupt careless individuals. In this small suburgatory hell, its all about who you know, who you blow, and who blows you.
Be prepared to be judged at a glance, have rumors be circulated about you, and to be harassed for just being.
One recent case shows the Osceola County Prosecutors Office bringing double jeopardy charges against an individual concerning a case that was dismissed due to lack of evidence. After the county picked the charges back up and jailed the 'offender' again, they LOST the case during trial due to lack of evidence. Multiple other cases show 'plea' agreements being negotiated, after the offenders 'plea' to the charges the prosecutor decides to change the terms, giving the offender double the negotiated time in the 'plea' bargain.

I totally agree with you!!!! They are the most corrupt place I have ever seen. I don't understand how those people get away with what they do. More people should complain to higher up people not associated with that county.

Reed City sucks. There is nothing fun to do for 21+. The place is great for retirement, but don't think that your kids will make it anywhere. Also, there are too many dumb hicks. I left Reed City the first chance that I got and I haven't been back since.
