What about when you are found NOT guilty & it still stays on your record. Try getting past a background check while trying to explain why you got arrested in the first place. The arrest does not get off there! WE have some strange laws here in MI.

I don't think a felon should be able to work at Mc'Donalds, much less hold political office. They chose to commit the crime, they should suffer the consequences.
Sure....let's let them sit on their rearends and collect welfare that tax payers pay for...but more to the point...let's just say a person, male or female, was 17, 18, or even 19, and got a felony for defending themselves or loved ones cause in some state's assaults are felonies and those same state's do not have a self defense law...now forward 20 years to present or future...the same person has went to college and hasn't been in any other trouble but to try to make it realistic...say they got a speeding or parking ticket 10 years or even 5 years ago...screw them...no job for them so we will pay for their food, medical, rent, and whatever else.

Criminals don't deserve welfare.

It should depend on the felony. If there is a felony on record that is ludicrous.this can be taken into account. Stealing and embezzling taxes and bribes etc.well, these lowlifes don't need any jobs in gov't. Many voters r narrowminded enough to vote them in anyways in certain instances.so keep them out of any public office. My sister married guy whose brother worked at a bank and was stealing money.he did prison.but obviously this lowlife should never work around money.ever again.sensibility should prevail in every case.

AMEN!
It sometimes amazes me how some people complain about issues such as the $10 theft when they shouldn't be stealing anything anyway. Also, if a potential politician overspends or can't balance a simple checkbook, would you really want him/her in office running your government on a bigger scale?
I agree, people shouldn't vote for someone they can't trust. However, the voters should be responsible for doing their own du-diligence, and decide for themselves if the candidate has broken the public trust. If voters would pay attention to who they are voting for the system would take care of itself. If they choose to elect a felon and he lies and steals when in office. Then, he can be removed from office, and the voters will have learned a valuable lesson. When laws are designed to keep people from ever making a mistake we can't learn and grow as a society.

A "YES" vote would bar any officeholder convicted of a felony involving deceit and fraud from holding public office for 20 years.
According to reports the amendment would extend an existing 20-year ban on election of legislative officials who have been convicted of felonies involving "breach of public trust." The proposed amendment would broaden the ban to local and state elective offices and would specify "break of public trust" as including dishonesty, deceit and fraud.
How will you vote on November 2nd?
This is BS! I have 1 bad day and now I cant run for office? Vote NO!

DAMN!
Really?
Retired Redford Township Police officer was charged with larceny from a building for picking up a dropped enevolpe ($160) of money in the checkout line. In 2011 while David Kutek was head of security at the GM plant in Hamtramck $43,000 worth of engines and transmissions were stolen, the Feds allegedly dropped the charges due to a technically. The law world's in mysterious ways.
