"OLD MONEY" A New Ely Stone novel by David Walks-As-Bear
NA'ALEHU, HI, April 25, 2006 -- The second novel in the Ely Stone series “OLD MONEY” is newly released. This long-awaited sequel in the Ely Stone series by David Walks-As-Bear makes its U.S. debut. The novel appeared first in Mid-March, 2006 in Great Britain at the ‘Left Coast Crime’ writer’s conference to awaiting fans. All of the advance copies sent to England sold-out within one day.
David Walks-As-Bear's "The L.P." (an Iraq War thriller) was nominated for an Edgar award last year. It was also nominated as 'Best Thriller' recently at the 'Love Is Murder' writer's conference in February, 2006. The win there, went to author David Morrell and his thriller, "CREEPERS". Still, this indicates that Walks-As-Bear's work is in good company.'The L.P." was the author's first 'stand alone' novel and with "OLD MONEY", he returns to his Michigan-based series.
Due to the Ely Stone series basal on true, unsolved mysteries, the novels fit a unique nitch in the market. The storylines apply to a variety of genre ranging from Native American to thriller, mystery, historical and suspense. The series is usually geographically located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula but in "OLD MONEY", the reader is taken on a thrilling mystical journey to Hawaii where national security is at stake and terrorism plays the heavy. The following synopsis details the perils and quandaries of the protagonist, Ely Stone, as he deals with... OLD MONEY.
Tribal Cop Ely Stone returns and falls into another case in which mysticism and death wreathe at every turn. Beautiful women, modern-day terror, Hawaiian mysticism, and American Indian medicine are all intertwined. But also drifting in this haunting sea is the famous writer, Mark Twain and an old Confederate warship – the C.S.S. Shenandoah. Why are both, Mark Twain and this eerie man-o-war sailing in Stone’s already crowded world? He doesn’t know as he’s got crazy movies playing in his mind. Stone is tormented by hauntingly bizarre visions that make him doubt his very sanity. But these nightmares have nothing to do with him or do they? Ely tries to piece the puzzle but in the end, perhaps he finds the answer is much closer to home – closer than he ever would have imagined. Is Stone going crazy? He's not sure. But you can bet your OLD MONEY that time... will tell.
David Walks-As-Bear’s first Ely Stone novel “The Murmurings” set the stage for this always suspenseful, mystical, spiritual and thrilling series. That book received excellent reviews and is being used at several universities as a spiritual literature assignment read. But "OLD MONEY" goes even further in that it mixes Native American culture with that of the Hawaiian as Ely Stone is sent to Hawaii. Consequently, the author will tour Michigan and the Midwest the summer of 2006 before heading west, to the San Diego Military Writers conference in October, and then on to the Hawaiian Islands.
