Most likely Garry is not going to run again. If so, who might the next sheriff be?

If Garry Welford hangs up his six shooters, then we need to have another "Professional Law Enforcement" Officer in the Sheriff's Office.

John Keel will get my vote.

Who would be the Other candidates? Any thoughts?

Lets ensure that they have Law Enforcement Experience no matter who runs. Cant have someone who just wants the office for the prestige.

I think Bobby Fairley would be exactly what George County needs. He is known to be honest and really has the experience in law enforcement that the job requires.

It's important to remember one thing: I'm sure every candidate for sheriff goes into it with honesty, character, and morals in mind. However, once that person is in office, they sooner or later find themselves compromising in order to balance their law enforcement duties with maintaining the wishes of their electorate.

I have been a victim of partisan politics in the law enforcement setting, and I've seen politics stymie other good people's careers. Too often votes become more important than ethics.

The best candidate may not be the most honest person, but the most steadfast under pressure.

In any event, as it relates to this topic, I'd give Bobby a shot just as soon as Tony Keel.

I seem to recall that Keel did work under George Miller, but then again I've never heard any deputy talk bad about him either.

Just because Tony worked for George Miller does that make Tony dishonest? If so I believe Miller is the one who hired Bobby Fairley. At least Tony doesnt cheat on his wife or take folks beer at road blocks to use for his onself! I dont believe Bobby has half the experience Tony does and from what I've saw Tony is a VERY honest and trustworthy person who treats people equal black or white. So if he didn't look you in the eye is it because handcuffs were behind your back? or maybe needed to be?

Don't know what all that was about Tony but Bobby Fairley doesn't cheat on his wife. I know them both. They are great members of the community and are very involved. Bobby has a lot of experience. Check it out. He has been able to act under tremendous pressure while making drug bust. I used to work with Bobby and Tony. Tony isn't a bad guy either, but trust me, Bobby is the best man for the job...

yes, I agree that Bobby is the best man for the job. He treats all people the same under the law. Both black and white. I know several families that have had dealings with him. They have the same account regarding his professionalism!!!!

maybe you need to check with some of the other guys who have went to schools with him and listen to some of their stories. from what Ive heard the community might not consider him such a great member if the truth was told! But hey to each his on. What kind of Sheriff would take folks beer for his self? Maybe Miller trained him

Ok Mr curious in Mount Olive, MS, you are talking out ya butt!!! Bobby is a family man and is always with his family. He has never cheated on his wife or done anything dishonest. You shouldn't say things that are not true. He prob did arrest you at some point in his career and you are just mad. Don't be mad at a man for doing his job. If he took your beer at a road stop then he and the other deputies had to turn it in for evidence. Don't be mad because your beer got taken in a dry county. You should have not had it on the roads!!!! Got to love George Co politics. None of these men have even stated they are gonna run yet and some idiot is already making up lies about them. If I were his wife I would want to know exactly what kind of proof you have, but I like I said you are just talking out ya butt!! These men are hard working, tax paying citizens. What are you?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Scorpio

There are problems concerning money today, especially if someone thinks they aren't getting their fair share of it. Mars turns retrograde in your house of public matters, so issues from the pat will need to be dealt with in weeks to come. Sort things out quickly, before they become even more fraught.
