1 This brings up two points. MCSO offers the worst insurance benefits in Monroe County. They are not even on the County plan. However, I don't see the correlation with the ticket. Ticket revenue does not go to the deputies. |

2 And as for insurance, that poster is way off base. The Sheriff's Office has County insurance. The county is self insured, adn the Sheriff's Office is part of the program. The insurance is really quite good. I've had it for many years as a long term Sheriff's Office employee. Sure, grass is always greener and you can always find something to complain about if you look hard enough. But I choose to appreciate what I have instead of complaining. You people who spend your life crying about the stupid little stuff sure must live a miserable existence. I feel sorry for you...and for the rest of us who have to listen to you. |

3 I used to work for the Sheriff's Office (just a few years ago). When I was there, we were not on the County plan and we could not choose providers. Coverage for surgery, dental work, etc was only like 50%, which is pathetic compared to most insurance plans. When did this change? |

1 Up until a few years ago, coverage was 80%. Now it is 75%. You can choose your own provider within the network; if you choose a provider out of network, the coverage is not as good...I think it is 70% or so...Fees are negotiated within the network so the doctor knocks a certain percentage off the top if you are from the network. There are seperate insurances available for dental and vision, just like always. These two plans change periodically and cover preventative stuff pretty well, but I'm not overly impressed with their "extras" like coverage for major dental work and orthodontics. If you don't believe me, call the County's Employee Benefits Office and ask. It is all public record. |

2 For those of you who are outside of the Sheriff's Office looking in, most of us aren't like that. The Sheriff's Office is actually a great place to work, with great people to work with. Most of us are positive people who like our jobs and do our jobs well. Disregard the negative whiners...there are only a small handful of them who just like to make lots of noise. |

1 Because other agencies are highering again. also Blue Corss Blue Shield quoated $298.00 a month to match our insurance. The Sheriff pays $850.00 per month per employee. Also the Sheriff has never bid it out to see what other offers are available or to allow others to compete. If FDLE wanted to investigate a kickback scheme Im sure they would find one. |

1 And, quite frankly, if people don't want to be here, they SHOULD leave. We don't need the attitudes here. There are plenty of people who want to work here - we never have problems filling road patrol positions. And, by the way, it is "hiring", not "highering". Your statements are as wrong as your spelling is. |

1 So genius tell us what the "TRUTH" is! You seem to be so qiuck to criticiize every complaint but you still dont list any facts. Oh by the way genius the Sheriff department will just about hire any borderline credible applicant. Your right a lot of young people do apply here because they want the job so bad. Roth knew this and that is why he refused to "HELP" the deputies. The "who cares let them leave theres two more waiting to fill their spot" attitude is the hiring practice of the Sheriff's office! Like I said another MCSO overpaid admin person saving their overpaid position. |

1 By ADAM LINHARDT Citizen Staff The federal immigration agency that pulled its female detainees from the Monroe County jail this week said it did so because the Stock Island facility is too far from its Miami offices. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) instead will send the women to the Glades County jail in Moore Haven, which also is $1.36 per-detainee per-day cheaper, agency officials told The Citizen Thursday. "This is a bureaucratic response," Monroe County Sheriff Bob Peryam said. "We were housing between 40 to 60 inmates a day for them. How do you just pull out after 15 years without a phone call? If they would have called me up and said transportation is an issue, we could have worked with them on it. We've picked up prisoners from Miami before and we could feasibly do it again if that's what's needed." ICE's announcement that it would use the Monroe County Detention Center only on a limited, as-needed basis was sudden and unexpected, and strips the county of an average $1 million a year it received for housing, feeding and providing light medical care for ICE's detainees. The contract has generated at least $30 million since the housing program's inception in 1993. The money went straight into Monroe County government's coffers, but Peryam expects the loss to affect his agency as well. Peryam said it's too early to tell what the scope of that impact will be. The loss comes at a time when the County Commission is cutting the budget amid the national economic crisis, and when Peryam is struggling to find middle ground with the Fraternal Order of Police union. Sheriff's Office deputies in that union are petitioning Peryam for more money, but apparently have reached an impasse. alinhardt@keysnews.com |

1 This is completely out of the Sheriff's control, and it will be a big hit on the operating budget. |
