Regarding the KFC demolition of recent months, I find it extremely hard to swallow that a huge corp. such as KFC is " unable" to have a new building in place at the time of the closing of their denison pkwy store. KFC used to be located at the north end of pine st. bridge next to where the YMCA is. That resturant was destroyed by the flood of 1972, and had no problem relocating to the denison local. The truth is kids that since the opening of the CORNING BYPASS in 1995, traffic volumes have continued to decline and the high volume of customers is certainly not what they once were. Ask any of the businesses along the one (+-) mile parkway if they are rolling in the dough and you will hear the same story. Another result of removing RT. 17 from downtown is that there are fewer "out of towners" to harrass and give tickets to so the local police target the locals to fill their quotas. The end result is people are moving away from this over policed area and those who can't affored to usually end up in the county jail because there are no jobs for the citizens that will pay enough to live on. You would think that the world leader in glass manufacturing who shares the same name as this dead town would help their neighbors as they once did, instead all we get is a water jet to splash in. Don't get me started on all the spy cameras that keep popping up everywhere and in every store in this area. This is not exactly Compton or Detroit , it's corning for gods sake !

I actually drove by the former KFC site and it looks as if the ground for the new walgreens is being prepped. There is some riebar in place and Corning Natural Gas has installed new gas mains for this project. So we might see a new 24 hr drug store open in about 5 years ! I say 5 years because like every other building endevor in this ghost town, the construction companies will more than likely milk every dime they can get out of it. Now all we have to do is convince the 22,000 people CORNING INCORPORATED laid off to move back to town so they too can enjoy the 24 hr drug store . To live in this hole you need to be medicated 24/7/365

If your smart you'll get out of Corning all together. Who wants to compete for job that pays 7 dollars an hour. Here the same job pays 10 and ass. man. get 12 to 13. Get out of that run down town as soon as you can, there is no future there!

I've moved from here so many times , yet I keep coming back. Probably because of the quietness. I was in north carolina for a few years and compared to the gun fights , hookers ans crack head gang members, Corning is like a giant leap back in time. It is hard to find a job that pays well as you know, but the peace is an even trade off ,... in my opinion. I wish I was here in the 1920 era things may not have been perfect, but they were'nt as crappy as they are now....Peace.

Wow. I don't know. We are planning on moving back to Corning in August. Reading all of these posts is starting to make me wonder. If jobs are only paying $7/hr maybe I should become an entrepreneur and open a KFC or something like that....just a thought.

I am planning to visit Corning next week. Aside from the glass museum, could anyone advise on the better places to hang out during the weekends and at nights?

nah man, thats elmira. trust me, i live here and all there is to do is drugs. i might even venture to say that this is the crack capital of the northeast. and nothings ever going to change here, itll just keep going downhill till its a ghost town.
however, dansville, corning will never get as bad as elmira. the simple fact that they have funding for public works, and lots of street festivals and public events says so; the population of corning is kept occupied, wheres elmirans have nothing to do because the town won't do anything for them. its all talk, and no action.

I would like to see a new KFC in Corning, NY but not a KFC/Taco Bell. I don't think that the combination stores do a very good job since they are trying to deal with two types of menus. The cost seems to be higher and the service isn't as good, at least that is my experience with the Mansfield, PA store. When is this thing coming? I really would like to have an option for KFC again rather than Burger King or McDonalds!
