Just maybe this will help the area near St Thomas, that at the end of November they decided to change. Thus rendering all cell phone service(that had been excellent)to non existant. Taking over a month to finally stop the promises of repair & truthfully tell us it wasn't going to go back to the excellant service. Have recently been promised by an AT&T exc. that service WILL go back to previous good service. So we will see how good the service of said AT&T really is. Not going to hold my breath!!!

I wouldn't hold my breath either. We was told the same thing and have been customers for over 10 yrs back to when it was Cingular. They told us it wasn't going to get any better and should go find another carrier. That is sorry service to give loyal customers. You never get the same story everytime you would call them.

I agree. They have more dead spots than the local cemetary.

I wish there was more information in this article - what kind of data upgrades are we looking at? Will AT&T be bringing HSPA+ to the area (what they call 4G even though it's really just slightly enhanced 3G).

Chambersburg got at&t 3G coverage in October 2009 and the HSPA+ rollout will be in 3G areas - hopefully we won't be last in the country though this time.

Their coverage is pretty good between Franklin and Fulton county already, despite some areas of St. Thomas and Mercersburg. To be perfectly honest, there are some trade-offs to living in rural areas and cellular coverage is always going to be one of them.

Verizon has non-existant 3G data coverage in all of Hagerstown and Western Maryland, so they are out as a potential carrier for me - at least until they can figure that one out. I recently just extended my 2 year contract, so hopefully I wont regret it...

My sister and I won't hold our breath (s) either. They kept telling us a tower was down. Then sister said to them, I don't believe AT&T would need over a month to get it back up. So we stopped the service.
But i hope they get it back, they are the 'better one'

AT&T flat out sucks. I would give up cell service if they were the only choice.
I was told lies about area of coverage years ago. Had poor service in my back yard and I live in the Chambersburg boro. Finally got them to cancel my contract and refund all charges and fees after 3 months of terrible service. They flat out lied about the coverage area.
Went to Cingular and had excellent service. And then they got sucked into the AT&T vacuum. I'd use a string and a couple soup cans before I'd ever go to AT&T.
Terrible company; terrible service coverage, terrible customer service personal.

Well the only thing that upset me is they don't care that we had service thru them ever since we moved here in 2001 and after this change that took service from me here in St Thomas all they can say is sorry. I'm so tired of people saying they are sorry these days when you know they could care less

I wouldn't go that far - but if you live in the boonies, your cell coverage likely sucks no matter what carrier you're on.

I actually have no major complaints about AT&T, other than the ineptness of the employee at their stores, their awful advertising and passing off minor enhancements to their 3G networks as "4G."

Coverage for me has been pretty good in this area - Verizon might be a better network, but they have no data converge in Hagerstown so they're out for me.

To be perfectly honest - I rarely ever use my phone for actual phone calls anymore. Email, SMS, MMS, instant messaging, social networking, web browsing - among many others - takes up the majority of the time I spend on my phone. I'll still talk to friends and family, but for work the different methods of communication are invaluable.
