From other accounts I've read, the teacher believes he was keeping within the context of his curriculum when he singled out this young man for ridicule. Yes, certainly a class dealing with ethnic relations can create uncomfortable situations in order to convey to students how it feels to be singled out and belittled because you don't belong to the majority group-but during a mid term test? Without any preparation on the part of the student who is to be the subject of the lesson?
It seems to me that the next lesson Mr. Kelly should teach his students is one in humility.
