Drunk Drivers, so so sad. At that time of night they should have a cop on scene and make the speed limit 25 about 1000 feet prior to getting close to workers.

Probably another drunk. Mandatory life license revocation for first time offenders would be an appropriate deterrent. The problem won't go away until lawmakers get serious about it.
Even if he was sober, the "skip" part of the crime means the clown knew what he did. He should get a double digit sentence.

It won't deter anyone taking their lic. for life. These people keep driving without one, over and over again. You are correct about lawmakers, but how many of them drive drunk?

The fact that the driver who caused this death did not stop, shows that S/he was hiding something. Every law abiding citizen has an obligation to look around and see any car with a suspicious dent and report it immediately. Every car repair shop and all gas stations should also monitor all vehicles and report any funny looking driver and vehicle.

Every effort should be done to arrest this hit and run driver. What happens to the driver once arrested is beyond my immediate goal right now.

True dat. People who regularly drive drunk will do so with or without a valid license. Their boozing is more important to them than any law.

As cheap as cameras are why can't these crews install some to record traffic entering the construction zone and then there would be a log of what cars entered at what time to assist if any accidents happen?

Some of you seem to be confused by the fact that the Dispatch grouped 2 different stories on 2 different sides of town together.
It looks like most of us have the ability to read, or at least not skim the article before posting our comments.
However, The Dispatch should have separated these articles as every other news outlet has.

<quoted text>It started at night (ODOT) because of less congestion and more linear footage of Asphalt to be laid down. And getting the trucks there faster to do it. Is that Cone zone a new term ? It's construction zone for construction workers and speeds are mandatory. Odot are you recreating the wheel again? My trade book is over 100 years old and it's alarming what comes out of you maintenance workers mouth. And you were just watching the asphalt being laid down period!
Cone zone is the new safety slogan here "Slow for the Cone Zone". http://www.slowfortheconezone.com/ check it genious. It's even sponsored by MADD and SADD. It was a combination of items, but safety was one of the main reasons. Less traffic, more work done faster keeping crews on the road at a minmal amount of time. Explain if its for asphalt why ODOT then does a lot of maintenance work on 71, 70, and 270 at night which is no laying asphalt. I

that is an excellent idea!!!! they could mount a camera on the contraption that tells you how fast you are going when entering the construction zone.

There are way too many idiots on the road. Any time I slow down in a construction zone to the speed limit I am always aggressively tail-gated by some fool who thinks the mandatory speed limit is only for dummies who follow the law. I get so sick of it. People fail to realize cars/trucks are dangerous and driving is not a right, but a privilege for those who show caution and common-sense. Now another family has to endure the sadness and grief due to the stupidity and carelessness of another human being. I hope they catch whoever did it and throw them in the slammer for a long time.
I agree entirely. Every time I enter a construction zone with reduced speed limit, I put the cruise right on that number, and then I get in the left lane. When people go around me, I wear my horn out on them, trying to get them to slow down. Show some RESPECT for construction workers. And this driver was an extreme coward by failing to stop. Throw the friggin book at 'em!
