I heard that a few over-served, drug-addled patrons of Sandy's got into a game of four-wheeler & car tag Sunday evening, resulting in the serious injury and hospitalization of a pedestrian. I also heard that the driver of the car blew .28 on a field-sobriety test & and, due to her relationship to the Sheriff, was allowed to walk. I find this hard to beleve, & a little troubling. Can anybody tell me what actually happened?

Yes it is true, she is in morgantown in critical condition. The drunken driver had been chasing her boyfriend all over town, He was the one on the 4- wheeler. She ran into him first, then went up on sidewalk, then slamed into the innocent lady. Pinning her between the two vehicles. Where was the sheriff, we don't know.Appearently he turned a blind eye to the whole thing. Sad Huh

How about the State Police & Belington PD? It sounds like SOMEBODY administered a field sobriety test. You're right, it's sad.

If the story is true, the community should not stand by silent. Call the county prosecutor and complain. Again, only if it's true. Barbour County is a rumor mill so you must have facts before you make a complaint.

And that's why I'm trying to GET some facts. Apparently, the city PD has been cut out of the investigation.

By the way MSOTRLMT IF is a VERY harsh word for you to use. You sound as though you possibly have some connection to the driver.By the way,the prosecuter is involved.

Let's set the record straight! First, no Belington PD did not have an officer working and did not respond. The Sheriff's Department had a Deputy on call who responded. Evidence was collected. The driver was injured as well and was supposed to go to the hospital. The case will be presented to the prosecutor. The driver will be prosecuted when the condition of the victim stabilizes.

Johnny Newman you are correct. As of today there are 3 felony charges that are going to be filed, which each carry 1-10.

Just to let everyone know the "facts" Belington PD had an officer that had just went off of duty that night and the chief of police was not even notified or called out (when he normally is called out) the sheriffs department was the only department notified... Hmmmm wonder why???? So please back up and know the facts before you start slamming the belington pd and state pd

Just to let you know -- Belington PD had an officer on duty until 2am and the state police always has an officer on call. The Chief of Police of Belington was never notified. The only department notified was the Sheriff's Dept.

For everyone's information Belington PD had an officer on duty that morning until 2am and the state police always has an officer on call. The Chief of Police was never even notified or called out as well as the state police. The only department notified was the Sheriff's Department. Plus why did it take drinking all night and an innocent person being hurt before any authorities were called anyway. Someone should have had enough "caring" about them to make a free phone call and get the lady taken home and the keys out of her hands.

I was in no way "slamming" the Belington PD or the State Police. It's my understanding too that they were never notified- my question was "why not?". Like you, I thought it was a little fishy. I think we're pretty much on the same page here.

That was not meant toward you --- that was meant for the gentleman from grafton who made the comment that the city pd had not responded and that the only department they could get to respond was the Sheriff's Dept. I actually like that someone has balls enough to call out why no other departments were notified of this. The other question is has the ABC commission been notified of this??? The bar can loose their license over this or has this been shoved in someone's back pocket because of who they know... An innocent person was hurt in all of this and that seems to be shoved to the wayside and the blame game has begun. The investigation should be fairly cut and dry.

Belington Girl, we're in agreement on everything here - I've wondered for years how the ABC people (& the health inspector, for that matter) let this dive stay open. The "Pot, Kettle" stuff is definitly ramping up- I just hope Mrs. Maslin is in everybody's prayers.

I think that lots of people like to jump on anything that will hurt someone just because they don't "like" them. There is no connection between the Sheriff and the driver of the vehicle. Her boyfriend may be the Sheriff's brother in law but they have not spoken or had contact for almost 4 years. Ask around-you'll find out the "facts" about that. He did not "turn a blind eye" to this, he has put the case in the hands of the Deputy who responded and did the investigation and the Prosecutor. He was not on scene or even called out. The so called "slamming" is just a fact-the Sheriff's Department and the State Police rotate night calls. It was a Sheriff's Department week. Why is it "fishy"? Has Belington Girl ever done an investigation? I haven't, and I cannot imagine that any one would be "cut and dry".

I do not believe I am the one who said anything about fishy so you need to get your facts straight -- I said nothing against any department - I was making those people who were slamming the local and state police departments that those officers were not made aware of any situation going on so how could they help or be of assistance. I was not the one who made reference to the sheriff's family being involved but I take it from your words of wisdom that you must be a close personal friend of the family to have this kind of inside information or is this just local gossip as well -- The fact is that an innocent by stander was hurt due to many peoples poor judgment and should pay the consequences regardless of who she or he knows. The bar as well should be held responsible for allowing that person to drink to the point of that kind of intoxication. They can call over fights but not over maybe saving someone or several peoples lives? How much more cut and dry can it get when someone is intoxicated, is trying to run over four wheelers, hits innocent people and ends up with the vehicle on it side. When was this ever about the Sheriff himself -- this was concerning the law enforcement in general being slammed- these men all departments included do the best they can -- You need to read what I wrote before you decide to be a jerk and reply and make it about one man when I wrote nothing about that person
