I happen to agree with those limits but it's a little hypocritical to run an article about a councilmember's personal life and then expect no personal comments about that councilmember.

So those who do NOT have an affair would have absolute credibility in criticizing Suja Lowenthal.

Comment postings go up without any editing, although there are filters that catch most inappropriate words.

We depend on users to flag problem posts and, if after review, we find them in violation of Comment rules, we take them down. Egregious violators are banished immediately; others have been banned for continually pushing the boundaries of what is appropriate.

We don't, however, go on fishing rips looking for violators.

This particular post drew a number of flags, in almost all cases deservedly so. As a result a number of comments were deleted.

If you see inappropriate postings on other threads, you can use the flagging function to let us know.

Does the whole world need to know that she is going through a divorc? NO!!!!!!!!!! there are more important things happening in this world beside Suja getting divorced. COme on Press Telegram talk about serious things that happening in Long Beach...If your going to print a story becasue Suja is getting divorced, you might as well print about all the divorces that are going on in Long Beach..........

You are right, there are more important things, but you also have to understand that we're talking about an important figure in our community, and being a public figure, things like this do get reported. So kudos to the LBPT.

I think the inappropriate comments is what's probably more of the issue at hand.

Exactly. She's a very ambitious type of person, and this break-up does nothing to stop talk that she married her husband solely for the political cache the name brings. As long as she continues to foist herself in the public eye, she's going to get all kinds of scrutiny. I love how she has said Daniel won't be commenting, either. I wonder if he's aware of that?

Likewise, please respect Press Telegram readers and enforce the rules universally for all comments...not just those made about a public official with a powerful political family. I've seen numerous inappropriate posts violating the rules daily that have no business in a mainstream newspaper. Just how many times does the "Report Abuse" tab have to be depressed before a vile comment is reviewed and deleted?

I agree, I've read some pretty vile comments on other topics and their still there. Personally, I have never seen as many post pulled as I've seen in this one. I respect and understand LBPT policies and trust approproite steps are being made to insure that ALL threads are treaded equally, not just this one.

I and encourage you readers to use the "report abuse" button if you feel a poster is out of line and against posting policies.

The one positive thing in all of this (if there is one) is that I think it's pretty clear that everyone, especially the city councle are human and not perfect. We all need to remember that.

Again, we depend on users to flag inappropriate comments. We delete them if they fail to conform to standards (and we get flags for and delete dozens a day).

We also try to excise responses to deleted items because if we don't, the problem winds up being repeated. We don't have the time to look at every posting (and that would defeat the goal of getting comments up real-time). About 10% of the flagged comments strike me as being something the flag poster just disagreed with, and we generally leave them alone.

Anyhow, thanks for your input.

I don't think working full time as a councilwoman, along with all her other duties, allows her quality time with her son, now that she's a single mother.
I think we should vote her out, so she can focus on improving her mothering skills.
The child deserves to know his mother.

One big difference LBJJ and that is the Lowenthals are an amazingly selfless and honest family who have done more to help our city than anyone can even fathom.
Good luck to Daniel and Suja and sorry it didn't work out. Allan and Bonnie must be very hurt and to them I offer great strength.

Public figures deal with controversy all the time.
Really makes you wonder why HALF the posts have been censored. I just posted "thank you" to a poster who also wondered why such a HIGH NUMBER of
censored posts and it got deleted. Seems the rules just tightened up for this topic.

A serious number of posts on this story were flagged for review and many of them picked up replies before they were deleted.

When we delete a problem post, we delete any replies that come along with the original quote attached, no matter how benign the reply, so the offending post doesn't get new life.
