It's not stupid get out of having to clean up your mess, but it is stupid to continue trying to do business in an area where help and houses are so expensive. And the boys down south are tired of the parasitic drain N.Y. has had on them for many years. Time to give it up!

It may sound good on the surface, but does Long Island really want an expansion of the defense industry going forward? It would actually be a step backwards. Remember, the defense industry comes with severe boom and bust cycles. If you think this economic slowdown is bad - and it isn't - just think back to the early 90s when every single defense contractor was throwing highly paid engineers, technicians, and administrators out to the street.*THAT* was a bad recession. We should not want to return to those days.

Parasitic drain?
The South supporting NY?
That's funny.

This is a good idea, there are still many people in the high tech sector on LI....This would help prevent engineers/designers etc from relocating to other parts of the nation...LI needs to be as diversified as possible on the job front...jobs that pay a livable wage,
as opposed to more "buger flipping" jobs.

This will have a trickle down effect to other businesses helping to employ more people...MAKE IT HAPPEN

Take back the Calverton site before the fools in Riverhead go ahead with that stupid indoor ski slope.

Sounds great that they want to stay here and expand. LI needs high-paying jobs. If only we could get some better colleges to build campuses on LI, then we wouldn't have the brain drain we do...

Anyone who does not want prosperity because it may be taken away one day should hang up their hat now. This could be a tremendous boost to an island that sorely needs one. We need a bedrock industry. War and defense is good business, and the gov is an excellent customer.

As to duh say selling the land was stupid, stupid is holding onto an asset that becomes a burden. Expand, contract, hopefully expand another day.

Two words: CERRO WIRE.

The land is there, great location, right next to the LIE, and it will stop that dumb mall idea.

Enough gimmicks like ski slopes and "upscale" malls. Bring REAL jobs to Long Island.

DoD left Long Island hanging out to dry in the 1990s. Hundreds of good engineers given no choice - either pull up stakes and go to Florida, Texas or Baltiwash or just "retire".

Brilliant engineers who worked on the ORIGINAL E2-C AWACS in the 1960s (by the way it's now referred to as the E4) having to run pizza places and laundromats and card stores just to stay alive and pay their mortgages. This is how DoD rewarded their loyal service.

You want to go this route again? Just keep in mind DoD had us over a barrel for the last 10 years concerning that Bethpage parcel even though it was legislated to give it to the County by Congress. Thank you SO MUCH, US Navy. Anytime, baby.

DoD is a treacherous partner both at home and abroad. Don't go there. Let's make our money honestly for a change, shall we? Keep the stench of corruption and war crimes away from here - not to mention we don't need any additional targets for terrorism either.

Grumman, Sperry/Unisys, Harris/PRD/GSSD - they all left when our community needed them. They can stay gone as far as I'm concerned. Take your BushCo blood money elsewhere, creeps. I'd rather eat ramen noodles for the rest of my born days than EVER work for the likes of you again. Follow in my father's footsteps? That'd be nice if he wasn't in a wheelchair - not like you care much, DoD scum, although the infrastructure he helped design is still in the air, on the sea, and now being used against his own children.

They should move to the Ghetto Industrial Park in Westbury. The one off Brush hollow Rd. where Verizon is. Masked gunmen were spotted there several months ago by Sprague Goodman.

IT is stupid sin ce long island is an island and if you ever planned on expanding on Long Island again there might not be any land left to do so. They could have rented or leased the land instead of selling it.

MY father was laid off from grumman and my grandfather retired from there. I just think its stupid for grumman to try to come back. When they went under it left long island in a horrible mess. Do we really need that again?

Hey, sounds good, maybe Crackwater could recruit some murderers there for their goon squad. We need more goon squads in the world because even Dumbya's screwed-up military still has to play by these annoying UCMJ rules. Goon squads are good business! Hey, want to know what kind of health benefits a goon squad has? Bet they're better than the VA!

You suckers are in a line around the block to sign up for jobs spying on your neighbors for Dumbya's police state, aren't ya? A chicken in every pot and a bug in every wall! Citizen, fully face the telescreen!

Don't be a pack of desperate, greedy idiots. We're still left with a stinking environmental mess in Bethpage that the Navy refuses to clean up. Now you want more of the same in Suffolk and you want to bring these clowns back to Nassau too? What are they going to do to your groundwater while you're cackling over the cash in your wallet? When your kid is born with autism or retardation because you're living next to a DoD brownfield, how much will you giggle over your dollars then?

And you don't mind being a part of Bush's useless and illegal war with it's fraud, waste, abuse, theft, murder, torture and lies? It's all good so long as your pockets are lined? Idiots. Get involved with that crap and in years to come you'll be hanging your heads in shame the same way every German does when someone says the name, "Hitler".

Get a clue in life, people. I'd rather have dealers selling heroin and crack in my backyard than the DoD, especially as they are operating under THIS cretinous Commander In Thief. At least dealers can be arrested when they break the law and cause harm to my community.

No business in its right mind would move to Long Island unless they were getting major handouts of OUR money from politicians. Will we find out how much corporate welfare our "leaders" are promising before, or after, the deal?

The first move is the hardest. They should move and consolidate those operations left to Melbourne where the cost of living and doing business is a lot cheaper. The talent pool is better due to the Cape and all the contractors in the area.Houses are reasonable.I relocated in the 80's and never regreted it.
