The Gunnery School community in Washington is trying this week to come to grips with news that a former administrator has been charged with several counts of sexual assault.

Well I guess the 7 million dollar donation will help cover the lawsuit costs the gunnery will be facing...if you claim to be one of the best you had better know what kind of staff you are hiring...

excuse me "whatever" but you don't know what you're talking about. they do extensive background checks and mr. reinhardt is known well around the world. the students are lying and he is being supported many of the other past and present gunnery students. you should be ashamed of yourself. innocent until proven guilty. don't you remember a similar scandal few years back in hamden where high school students put porn on a teachers computer and tried to accuse him of assult as well...until video camera evidence showed their falsified accusations. you should be ashamed.

The crimes Mr. Reinhardt has been accused of are enough to send any parent around the bend. Because of all the angers and fears surrounding the issue of sexual abuse, especially that of children, we must be careful to remember that one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. News stories about Mr. Reinhardt’s case, before any evidence has been admitted at trial, much less an adjudication of guilt, are filled with “predator pedophile”,“victim” and illustrations of same. Fueled by disgust and outrage, we are rushed to judgment, easily led to assume the allegations to be factual.

It seems to me we would be better served being patient while presented with just the facts of this case as they evolve. Conversation and education about the specific charges are important but they do not belong in reporting about a case that has yet to unfold.

The Gunnery is a very fine institution and does not deserve having its name dragged through the mud. If Dean Reinhardt is guilty,then he will be punished and deservedly so. Putting blame onto the school and trying to destroy its reputation is totally uncalled for. My daughter received a great education,made wonderful lifelong friends,and is now a successful college student. Things like this call happen at any school no matter how careful everyone is. As long as there are sick individuals in this world,disgusting things will happen. Gunnery will continue to be a great prep school and will rise above this totally unfortunate incident. My heart and prayers go out to these individuals and their families. I wish them the best of luck.
