not sure what happened to Tyrone, last weeks first
intro was thought to be an indication of LV business updates that would be provided weekly...
This weeks artilce is not what has been asked for by readers..... why focus on one main "story line"...
Business watch" should be that... a lot of business updates, new menu's, openings, closings, changes to business practices... new owner's... but not a lot of fluff...

which is what was given this week.....

This column is fine and it has news of multiple businesses. The writer is new, cut him a break for goodness sake. My only request is to keep the column from focusing on a single business or on providing free advertising for "high-end" (obnoxious) businesses.

BORING is right!!!
I guess Tyrone you do not read the comments that your Retail Watch readers post here. Once again you bored us to death with fluff. Sure it is wonderful and great that a doggy business opened... but lets not dwell on it. KEEP IT SIMPLE!... less is more!
If you keep this up you are going to loser readers!
The retail watch readers want to know about openings, closings, etc.
We do not care about where the owner lives, or went to school, or other boring details. You sound like an advertisement for the business. Blah, Blah, Blah! Come on Tyrone... keep the fluff out!!!
Here is some news to report about that you or Ms. Savage have NOT reported-

Wawa is set to open soon on MacArthur Rd.- tell us when?
What are they building next to the new Wawa?
A new business is opening in North Catasauqua at the Main Street Plaza strip mall... what is it?
SaladWorks opening on Schoenersville Rd. in Bethlehem.
Five Star Cafe opened on Schoenersville Rd. in Bethlehem.... there are three other businesses in the same strip mall here set to open... tell us about them (this is the strip mall next to Sheetz on Schoenersville Rd.)
What is the new hotel being built off of RT 33 near Outback?
Report about the new Japanese Steakhouse and Hibachi Grill coming to Whitehall Square Shopping Center.
Report about Amazon Cafe closing in the Whitehall Square Shopping Center.
Report about Cici's coming to Whitehall Square Shopping Center.

I just wrote about more openings and closings than you did in your last two columns.

Maybe I should be the retail watch reporter?!

Is AirTran or Southwest ever coming to the Lehigh Valley?
Is Hooter's ever coming to the Lehigh Valley?

Yes, and how about starbucks coming to campus square in Bethlehem. Had to read about that in a different morning call article.

When is the wine and spirits store at the promendade expected to open?

There is a sign on the building at the corner of New and 3rd St. in S. Bethlehem (next to Monsoon) for Versatile Strands (a spa/salon I'm assuming). I wrote to Mariella asking her to find out more about it, she never did...maybe tyrone could get around to it?

Obviously some of you readers are not even looking at what Tyrone writes. He is offering you some perspective. NOT JUST A LIST. If it were a list then would it be a column? think on that. You want all this feedback from him, how about you pick up the phone and give him a call rather than berate him. you're playing MONDAY QUARTERBACK. Do you know his job? have you sat in his seat? maybe instead of posting blah blah blah about what you want to see, maybe send him an e-mail to ask him. The guy is new to the area as he mentioned in his first column, yet you want to already compare him to Kurt or whomever. Times have changed and obviously so has this column. Be more proactive and reach out to him instead of crying about what he missed ina "comment" section. That e-mail for retail watch does work and as he mentioned before, he is in fact reading and responding to those. AND as far as this column here, it's offering perspective to the fact that HIGH END stuff is making its way into the OLD AND BORING Lehigh valley. He's saying, in so many words, that times are changing. I think a column shoudl be more than a list, and obviously this columnist understands that. Maybe its the readers who should wake up ... right?

Well guess what Relief???
I did indeed send him an email this morning after I posted on here.
I do think that most of the Retail Watch readers would like more of a list with just a bit of info. for the listing instead of a full blown paragraph of fluff and space filler.
As you can see, most of the posts on here are not happy with the way the Retail Watch is being written... that means it is a majority! That would mean that the people who took their time to voice their opinion on this forum do not Tyrone's writing of the Retail Watch. Even though there are only 10 posts at this time, the MAJORITY of posts do not like his style.
We want a short, brief listing of the business; not some sort of advertisemnt or "fluff". For goodness sake, its not the Retail Watch Society Page- we do not need to know about the education of the owner, what color the walls are painted, how long the business has been open, etc.
We want to know Business X opened or closed at 123 Main St. Anytown, PA.
Business X specializes in x products and is open from X to X daily.
Simple and brief just like that.

As I said, I did indeed email Tyrone...let's see if he responds back to me.

Also...
Why would the Morning Call hire someone who is not from the Lehigh Valley who does not even know the business landscape? Wouldn't it make more sense to hire someone from the Lehigh Valley who has lived here and is familiar with the local businesses as well as what the Lehigh Valley is missing or needs.
I always thought of the Retail Watch reporter as a crusader!... a crusader of reporting and helping to bring businesses to the Lehigh Valley through his job. Obviously companies (small and large) listen to reporters when they contact them.
If John Q. Public would call a company and ask if they were coming to the Lehigh Valley we would get nowhere. Though we do not like to hear about closings or rejections from companies, I believe the Retail Watch reporter should be digging and helping to bring businesses (small and large) to the Lehigh Valley as well as report about openings. It is okay to report about a company's renovation, a new product, etc. But please spare us a long drawn out paragraph about it.

If I were the Retail Watch reporter, I would indeed be reading these posts to look for criticisms and suggestions to better my articles. Sure emails are nice... but these posts work just as well.

In the past I would "email" Mariella about openings, closings, etc. only to find that she never would report it. She would email me back and thank me and say that she would report on it but never did.
Instead she wrote on and on about stupid stuff that was all fluff.

Perhaps we should start the Lehigh Valley Retail Watchers webpage and just do it ourselves.

A "suite" for your dog, that includes a TV tuned to the Animal Channel? Come on. Let's get real here.

Trust me Lissa... if the Morning Call would hire me and pay me for the job... I would write would the column! I just reread the doggy column and it really does sound like an advertisement or that Tyrone knows these people personally and is trying to hype up their business.

I agree Michelle, a little bit of info. about a business is not bad... but please do not bore us with long paragraphs about meaningless details... better known as FLUFF!

As I said before... the retail watch reporter is sort of like a crusader... he gets us dirt of when our favorite restaurant, store, etc. is opening. OR He tries to coax or find out if a business is coming here on "our" behalf.

I wrote many emails to Mariella about different retail watch news... openings, closings, etc. She would always respond back by saying that she would indeed report about them.
She never did! Instead she would write paragraph, after paragraph about some business that became her "pet" or favorite that week. Retail Watch is NOT about showcasing just one business like Tyrone did with the doggy story. If that is the case then it should not be called Retail Watch... it should be called Business Showcase.

Lets see if Tyrone uses any of the leads that the faithful readers of Retail Watch have emailed or posted on here to him. I listed at least a dozen.

So Lissa...and the Morning Call.
Email me if you would like me to take over the Retail Watch job. I am willing and waiting!

OR...

like I said earlier... the faithful retail watch readers could form our own website and just report the news we find to ourselves. It could not be any worse than what we are getting right now.

By the way Lissa, this is a forum; which means everyone gets to express his or her own opinions (positive and negative), as long as they are not abusive. That means that we do indeed get to critique and comment about Tyrone's reporting on this forum.

Ok lets tackle the term "fluff" that one person continues to mention. C'mon people this is not hard hittning news here, nor politics or the change of the global hunger crisis. It's retail watch! a column that gives the writer liberty to write and offer opinion about whatever they want. What do you expect the columnist to do? find any small piece of "bad" so it can feed your urge to be a naysayer and negative person for that day?? Oh wait, then you would complain that there is no good news in the newspaper. I read this story again and what i read was a fully detailed feature on a new business. I wanted to know information such as where the owner is from becuase it obviously tells me he's not even a resident of the Lehigh Valley, but is opening another big city idea in the area. Yes, yet another New Jersey resident making a business move on ol' lehigh. And Fluff? it's not like a chemical factory or a waste management facility owned by organized crime, it's a dog care place. And there are atleast a handful of other businesses mentioned in this column. Oh wait, there is more. I also spotted a "list" in there too. So that should feed the quota. I'm not defending this writer, merely offering a differnt opinion since it seems like most of the posts here are bad. Don't say majority are upset with it because 10 people deosnt equal the 100,000 subscribers of the paper. Then again, people only complain when it's bad. That's why there are so many consumer complaint hotlines ... to complain. I'm sure there are plenty of people that like this, and yea probably some are dog lovers.

Well ten people who took the time to voice their opinion did complain on here and that IS a majority on here.
Retail Watch is just exactly what it says... A watch over the happenings of the retail scene in the Lehigh Valley... openings and closings.
I will say that you are correct about the fact that it should not be a list. Indeed it should be BRIEF updates on an opening or closing.
If you looked today in the Morning Call there was a lengthy article about two new concept restaurants coming to Broad and Main Sts. in Bethlehem. The article was intersting and informative... even full of fluff. However, I did not mind reading the article because it was not part of the Retail Watch. It was a news story showcasing the opening of the two new restaurants.
The readers of the Retail Watch have grown to be accustomed to reading news about the retail scene in the Lehigh Valley that is just a brief update. If Tyrone or another reporter wishes to go in detail or "showcase" a Lehigh Valley business they should do so outside of the Retail Watch spectrum... like they did with today's article.

Did you ever notice that when (for example) a hotel chain opens a new location they just BRIEFLY describe where the location is and any other unique information about the location. This has always been the format of Retail Watch and one that works. Sure the doggy story was unique and different, but it just went on and on. Instead of being showcased under the retail watch it should have had its own place in the newspaper as today's restaurant opening article did.

... and yes the retail watch readers are hungry for as many updates of retail news as we can get.
There is a quota!-Give us as many news bites as you can get... more! more! more!
