helloooooooooooooooo wrote: Why don't you get to know the kids who are goth before you judge. Just because they are goth doesn't mean they cut their self, even a cheerleaders will cut if they need help. Most of the goth kids are really great kids and please remember some of the crazy things you did as a kid and some you still do as an adult. And yes I have three grown children, oldest a teacher, middle dental hygenist, and the third was at one time one of those skate boarders and goth, who at 21 goes to collage and works for a postal services. I work in the school and I have to say how sad it makes me that yet today people are so quick to judge others from just the way they look.I know many goth and emo kids and they are all great wonderful, smart kids who just enjoy a little different style. Who gives anybody the right to say they are not when they themselves don't even know these kids or what they are even about. I have a niece that is extremly goth at first I was thrown by it but now I think she is amazing she is only 28 and has 2 degrees and owns her own business. She has been married for 5 years and has a beautiful one year old daughter. I have a daughter in middle school who is alot like her and she is a straight A student. I said if she turns out as great as my niece I will be happy.I agree completely that you shouldn't judge before you know the kids you are refering to.

Woah I must agree with this. I am highly offended but also aware that many people writing some of these comments are vindictive And spiteful. I am sterotyped as emo and it's a part of who I am, and many people are saying who I am and many teenagers are is wrong and making out that it's not okay to be who we are because you don't like it. I am a self harmer but this is not why I'm sterotyped as a emo. I'm sterotype. As emo or scene because the way I dress style my hair and what music I'm Into. I say I'm a self harmer however I am trying to get help. My childhood was messed up I have been through allot and seen allot. I was walked out on by my father at three leaving my disabled mum to care for me and my three sisters. How ever as I got older I had to help look after my mum as get disabilitys got worse. I was abused by my sister for thirteen years and have just resently turned fourteen. This is just one of the smaller things I have to put up with. As I have much bigger problems. Again this is still no reason to self harm. As time has passed I begun to hate myself and my life. I began to slit my wrist because the way I saw it was Is that I deserved it. And was the one dosage if pain no one else had controle over. It's 5.14 am and in about forty six mins I have to shower and get ready for school I have not slept in two days because I suffer from insomnea one of the many side effects of depression. As some of the wiser people have said do not judge some one before you know them. When that is said it does not mean just because you know were they hang out what they wear or listen to or even there name that you even slightly know a person. Self harming may be seen as a cry of attention but it's also a cry of help. It's not a easy thing to do it's hard just like life no one has the rights to judge some ones life or how they deal with it. Everyone is free to have an opinion but if that opinion causes hurt to another person and they hurt themselves does that make them a self harmer or you an abuser? There is nothing wrong with constructive critism but many posts are posted out of spite. P.s it's horrible to know how many parents think they have the right to look down on some one because of who someone is and what the stand for. in between wrote: i think that this article is sort of degrating, for both emo/ goth kids. i just don't think its o.k. for parents to say this about kids, and if an emo kid was actually reading this he would be sad beyond words. im not saying it o.k but im not going against it either. if they like what they are then let them be. personally i was a goth when i wasin high school and i never ever cut myself or any of that steryotyped thing except for being goth. i just don't think its fine to actually say this, i know it's sad and all that but culture is culture and in like a decade or so it will pass. and no it is not the lack of grounding, teens just pass through that stage. the couriosity of trying to find oneself. the need to know who they are. most of the kids that join the emo/goth crows will probably be one the preppy crow by the next. it is just culture, nothing else.

Well we say don't judge us by your own standards You said you stood for something within the reference of being emo. We judge you by the norm, and that is to say that you are over emotional, self absorbed, naive, and irresponsible as a whole. I have met quite a few Emos and they have all this in common. Emos as a whole crave attention, and little else. I've heard their so called sob stories and they always pale in comparison to those of me and friends of mine. One day you'll look back and understand how far removed Emo kids are from the real world and understand why they are so universally despised and/or made fun of.

its who i am, at the end of the day the truth is in the eye of the beholder. tbh when half these Adults are on this page saying how they hate emos trying to tell us what not to wear etc isn't that going to make emo's annoyed at the fact no matter where they turn, someone has something to say. Attention seeking or is it a cry for help? ah but your to naive to care. Lets bring up attention seeking. Your writing to a fourteen your old publicly causeing attention upon yourself, because you want to get your points viewd. "over emotional" i beg to differ, were just not scared to show our emotion in what we were and or listen to or how we deal with it. You've met many emo's and they pale in comarison to you and your friends? everyones different. & the way the do things are too. So just because your emotional and physically stable after putting up with God knows what happend in your Life, dont mean every other person is." emo's crave attention and little else?" Helloo as i said you cannot sterotype emo's maybe to some its a fasion but to some its their way of living there life, just because your A OKAY! Doesnt mean everyone else is Springheeljac wrote: <quoted text> You said you stood for something within the reference of being emo. Mommy wouldn't give me the car for the weekend so I can see my soul mate who I've known for two days OMG I'm gonna cut my wrist. That's the stupid kind of shit I've heard from Emo kids. I didn't say you were self absorbed or an attention whore. But the MAJORITY of Emo kids are.

You forget to point out that goths emos or cheerleaders are all individuals. These days you just can't trust stereotypes, and in my opinion you never could because we're all different. I am actually goth and for me it has nothing to do with being depressed, suicidal or wanting attention I just plain like black, spiky accessories and chains. It's no different than the other girls liking pink and hearts or red and stars if you get my point. Indeed some goths are messed up but at the highschool I'm at there is a gothgirl who's always the center of attention with her extremely good mood and cheerful smile, she's not standing in a corner by herself or anything near what you have described. So please don't judge people you don't know talk to them instead you may actually get a pleasant surprise.
