A poster wrote, "the reason the big wheel in tenn. wanted jerry is because it takes a special person to run a dairy of that magnitude . as a manager of a dairy that size one must be a economist,a personnel director a veterinarian, and a business man. running a dairy is physically and mentally exhausting. i know i ran a 400 cow dairy for 7 years.the guy in tenn. i know couldnt do it. you see jerry didnt have the 3-5 million its going to take to set up that farm. the big wheel in tenn. was going to finance it with jerry bringing in his cows which probably was going to net him a certain percentage ownership of the corporation. jerry at his present location has been in the red for quite sometime. this deal was his ticket to financial freedom. thats why i think that the insurance policy on emily had nothing to do with the murder.you see jerry knew if a divorce issue came up the guy in tenn. would most definitly pull the plug on him . he would be too big of a liability to risk 3-5 million on .one must realize this deal has been 2years in the making and a alotof time and effort had been put in to it. the pressure on jerry must have been enormous. go through a divorce and all your dreams down the toilet. or eliminate divorce from the equation. we know which path he took.finally as not to upset anyone this is only a theory and carries only the weight of a butterflies dream."

A great post! Thanks for your insight.

we all know jerry's liabilities exceeded his assets, there is a list this is probably what will happen concerning jerrys dairy. we of people / financial institutions owed money, if you're on the top of the list you are in good shape. if you're on the bottom your not going to be buying that new swimming pool this summer.with no one there to manage the dairy(not just anyone can do it),they will have to sell everything cows, equipment, tractors, trucks even the milktanks!, one might think the big wheel in tenn would buy them. but that dairy to be has barely broken ground.but he might already own other dairies.i just dont know.anyway cows have to be milked in the morning then quickly loaded up in trailers and moved to another dairy. if those cows are to leave the state then certain shots(vaccinations ) must be given prior them leaving.if the guy in tenn doesnt want them there are plenty of dairies across the country that would buy them. another option is to have an auction right there at the farm. the only possible problem with that is it takes time to set up, then fliers have to be sent out to all reasonably close dairies.what happens at the auctions is that the cows are milked then are moved through an auction tent the high bidder gets the cow.then shes moved into a holding area were shes loaded up and heads to a new home.with all of his assets liquidated as i said before if you're at the top of the list you're probably going to get your money, the ones at the bottom won't. end result jerry will be pennyless but who needs money in jail!

Jerry brought more than cows and dairy managment ability. He would have also contributed the milking equipment and milk storage tanks. A contract to purchase and install that equipment was in place. With cows valued at $2000-$2500 each and the equipment at close to 500K, he would have been a substantial partner in the Mtn City project.

"...his help would have followed him too." Jerry said publically here in Mountain City that his migrants would follow him, around 50 workers. Emily was to sign on a house within walking distance to the CAFO sight. Jerry's name was not on the contract. That info comes from the seller of the house. A lot was riding on Emily following her role, but she obviously was moving to divorce Jerry. Being in debt is not fun and Jerry was in deep deep deep. His partnership with Wiley Roark was his ticket to the big time; his only possible ticket out of dispair. Now Wiley has washed his hands of him and, from what my contacts say, bought Jerry's milkers and now has a new partner from Virginia.

June - No new partner in Virginia. This tragic event has caused the dairy plans to stop dead for the time being.

Yes, Mr Roark wants to proceed, but wouldn't you after a multi-million dollar investment, that BTW, Mr. Anderson has yet to contribute one dollar too. He HAD to distance myself from Jerry after this came out. He was just as shocked as anyone and still finds it hard to believe. I mean he and Jerry have been planning this merger for over two years. Mr. Roark has had Jerry, Emily and the son to his house and to other social events. He is genuinely SHOCKED as are the rest of us.

I know that the Roarks are easy to pick on, They have money and everything else that alot of us want, but can't have. But we do share something in common, feelings.

Try and remeber that...

That's an interesting theory you have there, "perturbed," that those critical of Mr. Roark, that pious polluter who has actually had his hired help up to the big house for punch and cookies, do so only out of envy of Roark's money. Try and remember that everyone doesn't worship at the altar of Mammon.

I'm surprised to hear that Wiley Roark "HAD to distance 'myself'[sic] from Jerry after this [news of his wife's murder] came out," being such close social friends and all. What's with that? Shouldn't he stick by his friend? You say, "myself." Was that a Freudian slip? Are you actually Mr. Roark, "perturbed?"

Yes, indeed, we all have feelings, even the cows. Think how Bossie would feel, being forcefully uprooted from her lovely NC pasture, in a crowded cattle car, no less, and moved to live out her days in a caged existence on Mr. Roark's CAFO facility. Terrible! Milk cows, unlike mestizos are NOT a migratory specie. Actually the word migrant applies from the old days when Mexicans were itinerant, seasonal farm workers. They would come across the border as temporary guest workers back in the 1950s and 1960s, pick ripe fruit and vegetables, mostly in the SW, and return to Mexico after the harvest. Today these workers are entirely illegal and they are NOT returning to Mexico. BTW, when exactly is the milking season over? It's my understanding that dairy cows must be milked every day of the year. These mestizos are migrating here permanently. Please try to remember that. "La Raza (traslated: The Race)," the largest Mexican nationalist organization, declares openly that it plans to overwhelm and conquer North America, displacing the traditional inhabitants -- you and I -- through mass migration, because they can. Try and remember that, too. Don't take my word for it, get it straight from the reconquistadors at http://www.aztlan.net/ .

I agree with you SHOCKED is the word for anyone who knew the Andersons. Unfortunately the feelings of people who are truely involved in this tragedy are just not as important as the need to speculate and gossip is to those who have no real connection.

I will. I'll try. But if you knew Wiley growing up and a little about his upbringing, you'd know what he wants to feel more than anything is in control. He's a socialpath, meaning that he doesn't play well with others. I don't want his money, I want him to feel the needs of the community around him. He forced this CAFO on us; no one wants it here but him. He's not filling a demand for milk production as has been suggested. He's doing this because he can; a rich man's wet dream. Sorry I'm so angry, but I look at Bill Gates and other millionares who actually act like compassionate human beings and I wonder how we got the short straw with Wiley Roark. I adhere to the theory that he'll bring his low paid agriculture employees into the quarry and road jobs at the same legal sub minimum wage.

Why would Emily wait to get a bigger settlement. If your husband is in debt, honey so are you. You are also liable for the debts as well as the assets.

Gee, can't a fellow be allowed a slip while typing and thinking at the same time....No I'm not Wiley, but I have known him for 20 years. I don't see what alot of people see. I'm not rich and powerful, yet he speaks to me when he sees me, asks about my family. He even goes so far as sponsoring area school activities like baseball, football, band, the 4-H, etc. He even paid for a young girls college education who tragically lost her father.
Shame on him for being so mean and nasty. He even bought season tickets to UT football games and gave to his employees. How nasty!

As far as the Mexicans go, I know that the ones he uses in the summer are card carrying legals, paying federal and social security taxes, the leave every Dec. and return the end of March, first of April. No illegals yet, so maybe there won't be. I will reserve judgement on that issue when it happens.

Maybe she knew something about their financial situation that you don't know. And after five years of putting up with his abuse (verbal and emotional) didn't she deserve to get what she could from the jerk? I wish she hadn't waited - as I'm sure all of her friends and family do - because she probably would still be with us today. And I'm sure you didn't mean to come across so harshly when speaking of someone who was brutally murdered and stuffed in a tool box for 10 days!

I am sure there were many victims in this murder story. I wish them all well.

Well it doesent seem fair the cows and equipment can just be taken away without court approval. Perhaps friends are rescuing property so he looks indigent and we taxpayers have to pay the bills for his lawyer. NOT FAIR!

does anyone know what is being done with Emily's personal property that she brought into the marriage? Doesn't seem fair that someone other than her family should take possession of these items.

who are you people to just assume things like Emily having to put up with any kind of abuse? I am ashamed that there are people in the community that make such harsh judgements, and have gone ahead and signed Jerry's death warrant. he has the right to a fair trial, everyone does. Innocent til proven guilty. If Emily were still here she would be very hurt. She was a very fair and forgiving person. You know there's a lot of people who are broke and struggling day to day to keep their heads above water. It doesn't mean that they are going to kill off their spouse. And the whole divorce thing, well no one, except the lawyer and LE know for sure what Emily spoke to that lawyer about. Alot of people go through battles in their lives, marriages, etc and may not be happy with their situations, and even go as far as seeing a lawyer, but there are other alternatives to divorce, such as prayer and faith in God. I pray for Jerry every day, and I also pray that God will reveal the truth no matter what it is. We are all hurting over this murder. Emily's death and Jerry's arrest just rips my heart out. I just pray that people would be more compassionate. I know that it is human nature to see all the negative things in others, but there is so much more to all of us. Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Libra

Someone is shooting from the hip today, making them irascible and all too liable to fly off the handle. Be very wary about provoking them into further outbursts, particularly where the vexed topics of money and sex are concerned. If you're trying to sort out a financial problem you will also be prone to losing your rag and banging your fist on the table. But will that help?
