Let's see what our current Town Leaders do to protect our community. Do any have a backbone to stand up and say no to the over development of the Route 6 corridor.
If not, at least I know Bill Foster is ready to step in as our next First Selectman. He clearly is willing to take on the challenge and fight to protect our community.
You have my vote Mr. Foster!

Bill Foster? Scrooge Foster? Grinch Foster? Are you freakin nuts? If he had it his way, Rt 6 would be a shanytown of dilapidated, vacant strip plazas cause no one would have a reason to come here! That guy's a NIMBY menace! You think it's bad now with the sewer rates going through the roof, just put Bill in charge and you might as well just kiss your house goodbye cause the taxes will go through the roof without a commercial
tax base. Here we go again. This guy's gotta be muzzled before he scares away the few good retailers left. Thank God Target stuck it out and won! There's a ot of kids who can thank Target for their first Jobs!

Why are all you freaks so against bringing in tax revenue from business. Change is good and buiding up route 6 will help many things. The traffic is not going to get any better by not building it up.The cars are already on the road they are just driving to danbury to go shop. Wake up and let things improve. I couldn't afford to buy a house in bethel because the taxs are crazy high, the same size house in danbury the taxes were 3000 less and they have a paid fire department and ambulance not that hick volley crap.. Wouldn't want Joe Schadd to save my life

I think Costco would be a good addition to Stony Hill, since the Brookfield NIMBYs have booted them from the cornfield. Doesn't Steiner have a large lot on the corner of Benedict and Stony Hill Road where they can try again for a Costco? And, Bethel has water where Brookfield doesn't.

Forget the doomsyaers like Foster. These people are stuck in place in the 1950's. The problem is the school budget has gotten larger as the population has grown, and we need commercial development to offset the personal property taxes.

Offset Taxes? I don't think so. Commercial development means more money to spend; not lower taxes or quality of life. I wonder if P & Z members have a personal stake in this. Something to ponder!

Another idiotic lie being promoted by devious Nimby types who would rather see a whole town get screwed so long as they continue to live in phony solitude.

Another lie? Tell me; what additional tax revenues have been used to reduce existing taxes? I'll help you; none. What was Connecticut's budget before the income tax was passed? What is it now? And did our taxes stabilize? No. Up, up, up. Your cute sentence run on proves your lack of thought on the true issue. So, who's the devious phony? Phooey to you, phony! You must be on the board!

I believe your argument is a bit phony. You're assuming that commercial and income tax revenues are supposed to LOWER or stabilize taxes? That's never happened because the budgets go up every year including this year due to increased debt service payments despite a lower operating budget. Nice try, but your argument doesn't make any sense given the facts and a healthy dose of reality. We need the additional commercial tax revenues just to stem the rising tax tides each year.

I absolutely agree with the board's proposal.

Bethel needs growth - and Route 6 has been identified as our commercial area. Bethel could use more tax income and more jobs. I think that the lesson of TARGET is that a large company can come in to a small town - and benefit the community - not destroy it. I haven't heard any complaints about Target as a neighbor. It is also smart to focus this growth on the Route 6 corridor - and forget about destroying the Terra Haute property. That truly is a town treasure.

You must live near Terrra Haute or you wouldn't be sacrificing the homes of those of us who live on and around rte 6. I'd also like to know how many of target's immediate neighbors you've actually spoken to 'cause you're sorely mistaken. They're not happy, they're beaten.
We can all thank the Rubinos for screwing us to a wall.....first by putting that awful nightmare of a building on 17 acres in the middle of a beautiful residential area on Walnut Hill. That property could have been subdivided for building more lovely homes but there wasn't enough $$ for his own pocket. So much for the loyalty of one of Bethel's own. He destroyed our home life and property values to fill his own pockets.
If you live within a mile of that horrific, ugly, big box, you're kept up at night by the glaring lights of the walnut hill church - it's like living near walmart. And how about the peace and sanctity of Sunday morning for the residents of the walnut hill area? Not while the members of that place are racing past your house to get to service, rolling right through stop signs. They are loud, speeding, and inconsiderate - but such good Christians.
Now you want to build things like costco on route 6? Do you actually believe that your taxes will decrease if we go ahead with this? Are you crazy? How much have your taxes decreased with the development of target and big y?

First, Walnut Hill Community Church, that property wasn't owned by the Rubino's but by the Dibble family. There was a stipulation in the sale by Mrs. Dibble that the property can only be used as a church. The lights are designed so that they do not have a glare, and all church functions are over by 8:30pm.

Target had very little disruption to the neighborhood, infact it is much more sightly than the CL&P Plant that was there.

As far as Costco on RT6? The developer can now put 3 buildings on the same lot as they are looking to make it just one larger building. Look at Big Y; there are three buildings there, because of the isize limitation. The developer still got there square footage, they just needed three building to get it.

Costco was going in the cornfield in Brookfield. The "cornies" screamed, yelled, and successfully chased Costco off. They ended up with a multi-use strip mall, which is worse.

In the end, if you want to deprive someone the use of their property, the only way around it is for you to BUY their property.

First, the Walnut Hill Church property was owned by the Dibble family, not the Rubinos. The Dibble family stipulated that only a church could be built there.

Big Y Plaza brings in $1 million in tax revenues that otherwise would've been born by residents, that development offset an average $303. tax increase per household.

The issue with the Rubino property is whether to allow a larger building on the property. Right now, similar to Big Y Plaza, they can have the same square footage, but would need to build three buildings like the developer did in Big Y Plaza.

The NIMBYs in Brookfield successfully chased Costco off the cornfield. What they ended up with is a multi-use strip mall instead. I think a single user like Costco would've been a better alternative to a strip mall.

It comes down to the fact that if you don't like your rich neighbors, you have a choice to either buy them out, or to move.
