I was so disgusted by the pettiness exhibited by Mr. Burke during this past election. How can anyone be expected to cooperate past, present or future with such an intolerant, obnoxious public official. The fliers to "vote for anyone but.." rose Mr. Burke and his party to a unprecedented level of bitchiness. In the corporate world such repulsive behavior is not acceptable, it shouldn't be acceptable from our elected "Leaders".

Your constant partisan postings renders your opinion moot. I'm sure, if you are in the 2nd district, you were not voting O'Brien anayway, so who cares what you feel?

Let's see if Mr. Bartlett will pay his overdue property taxes to Bethel.

I hope Burke doesn't cave in and go along with Bartlett's hare-brained scheme to sell 208 acres of Terre Haute to Danbury especially after Danbury paid $200,000 for three acres of similar land in Danbury. Do the math!!!!

This is just another of Bartlett's show boating. He has no intention of cooperating with anybody who isn't a Dem. Jason is some example that the youth shouldn't emulated. He is a dead beat and is only out for himself. He is blowing smoke up the but of the public. Don't trust him for a minute.

It easy to say things.

Executing on such words is a far different thing.

Both these men have been given bad advise along the way, and both have shown the bad judgement to accept it and act on it. The result is that each persons reputation has been tarnished. Their reputations, not the advisors, they tend to disappear into the weeds.

It will be very interesting to see what happens the first time a issue that would be benefit the town and the taxpayers comes forward. Watch to see who tries to step forward and take sole credit. Then all will know who is a man of his word; and whom is a man of many words.

The reality is it should not make a bit of difference, because the town and the electorate (Taxpayer$) would be the ultimate benefoactors of working in concert for a common need.

Time will tell. Lets hope both can stay true to their respective words, and that the outside "influences" in both men's lives will be looking for "taxpayer wins" rather than "party/partisan wins".

It is easy giving advice as a blogger. It is a lot tougher to avoid being a Board member who just doesn't go along for the ride.

People, give them a break. Let's see if they can pull together. I could write bad things about both - but worse things about spiteful people on both sides.

Let's see if Bob will swallow some ego for the good of the town.

Let's see if Jason will straighten out those taxes and build upon his first term experience to be successful.

The rest of us should get outta the way and let these guys get their acts together. I'm inspired both have taken the first step.

Is there any truth to the rumor they were seen at a candlelit table in the back of La Zingara sipping chardonnays together?

(Of course, that's just a joke! Let's keep our sense of humor and get rid of the mean stuff OK?)

Life's too short.

Burke throws barriers on top of barriers to prevent communication with Bartlett because of his own personal dislike of him.... That is Totally Wrong. The First Selectmen works on behalf of the taxpayers not their personal feelings. This is not partisan politics, I am a Republican, I didn't vote for Bartlett but Burke should be working closely with him to get the job done. If the Reps are not working for Bethel then put them to work, invite them to talk, schedule monthly meetings. It is obvious Burke has been trying to set up Bartlett for failure for personal gain.

Why exactly, do these guys have to work together? They work in difference places on different issues. Who cares about a $300K grant for a teen center. We have a teen center in New Milford and it is waste of time and money.

Bartlett and Burke should both concentrate on lowering taxes and spending. That is worthwhile and needed.

I heard a rumor once that Bartlett lectured how the democraps in hartford had a super majority, he could do what he wanted, or something like that. may be a rumor, but if half true points to barriers baing on that side of the coin too

I for one will attend the next BRTC meeting and call for the resignation of it's chairman. Paul's association with whackjobs such as Bob Crnic and picking awful candidates with ZERO name ID such as O'Brien should cost him his chairmanship...it's that simple.
oh please

That "wackjob - Crnic", you're refering to is the chief architect of the last two Republican election sweeps. Crnic may be a lot of things but most of the insiders know he's a political and marketing genius. Melanie was a highly qualified candidate who took advice from the wrong people who do not know how to run aggressive winning campaigns. She would have won if she listened to the BRTC leaders who obviously know how to win elections decisively. You obviously have an axe to grind or you're a democrat.

Who ran the Melanie's campaign? It wasn't Improta, Burke or Crnic. Whoever ran Melanie's campaign is to blame. Guess who that would be...Pat Rist, Kitty grant, Judi Novacheck, that's who ran Melanie's campaign. So go after them and stop picking on Burke. He carried the republican two elections in a row. How easily everyone forgets that fact. And if runs again he'll win again because results count for everything.
