at this time we taxpayers are footing the inmates bill so now my question is the money that is deducted for taxes should be reduced...right?

Yikes, who would want to receive blood and organs from diseased low-lifes. I think they should stop wasting education on criminals in prison and bring back the working chain gangs so we can send the illegals back to Mexico.

Sounds like a good idea, but what if you are found innocent at trial?

This is absurd, so now on top of fines and court costs, and other expenses you will now have to pay for your time in jail?
I understand this to be for sentenced people, not for people being held prior to trial correct?
Even so it is hard enough to get a job and keep one with a criminal record now the government wants to take more money from the people who struggle the most.
The more difficult you make it to recover the more likely someone is to give up and go back to committing crimes.

Just what really is the cost of a green bologna sandwich and stale bread? Sounds like the mayor is looking to line his personal pockets cleverly disguised as pay to stay. This idea could make sense in a county free of corruption. That rules Summit County totally out.

Clinically speaking - having inmates pay their own expenses is a good idea.
I don't even have a problem with a private company that provides services making a buck from this.
It is dangerous for the government to have a profit motive like this. Do we have to list the communities with speed traps and Mickey Mouse Mayor's courts? Is it that hard to believe that a community would sentence someone to jail time or a longer term because they were broke?
When the government is involved it is always best to ask 'how can this be abused?'

Oh come on ignorant person, they would make sure there was no disease from a person before they gave you blood or an organ. I am sure, if it was a matter of life or death you would be more than willing to take anybody's organ as long as it was not diseased. Anyhow, that is not what the article is about so let me now comment about the article. As long as we are not lining the pockets of the people who run the collection of money than I say it may be a good idea. Unfortunately we would probably be charging the criminals and then creating new criminals because they would steal the money. The world is so corrupt!

You people have no clue. They make tons of money down there on phone calls alone not to metion commissary. And when you are held there it doesn;t always mean you are guilty. Look at Shari Walshes record and how many people have spent time down there for no reason. If those people would be allowed to charge for their time held there for no reason we would be losing money. How about Oriana house which probably houses more people then the county jail. this whole idea is stupid.

Good idea, but most criminals don't have a pot to piss in or money to pay for the jail tour. That's why they did the crime in the first place.
After their lawyers get fees, nothing would be left.
Good try, but it won't yield $250,000.

I hope they're talking about after the trial and they're already found guilty.(Did I miss that in the article?) Many people are accused, booked and found not guilty or the prosectors office drops charges. What then? I bet it wont be reimbursed as quickly as it was collected.

Bad idea. While this may be good if we are just trying to punish people, if we want to rehabilitate them this doesn't make so much sense. This is punishment on top of punishment, which may even further demoralize someone we're trying to transform by adding to their heap of problems. It might be a better idea if the money were used for post-incarceration rehabilitation or crime prevention, but most likely the money would be used for real estate development projects...

I say double it. While in jail, the inmates get free cable tv( I don't get that and I haven't broken any laws). They have acces to mental health doctors, microwaves to cook their commissary food, gym and library time. If you come into the jail with no money you can get free clothing and pencils and paper and envelopes. They are even allowed to purchase girl scout cookies. Maybe instead of spending 40 dollars twice a week on commissary junk food they sould be repaying the tax payers of the county.
