Remember when window-rattling sub-bass noise and loud music were considered deviant behavior; when garbage was in a container and not mounded near garages; when people had pride in their homes and respected their neighbors?

Maybe city council does't care. |

I grew up in Berwyn from 1962 until 1985. It was not full of old people. There were old people on our block and as they died off families moved in. It was a safe place to live and raise kids. I went to Morton East and it was a great school. Now I look at the demographics of the school and look at the performance of the kids and just shake my head.

P.S. And also, I for one moved out of Berwyn for 2 years, and then came back, because home is where the heart is. Once I came back, I drastically changed the appearance of my home as far as taking pride in your dwelling is concerned. And do you know what happened after that? My neighbors followed the trend, and now my block looks the nicest it EVER has! Sometimes it only takes one person to set the tone of things. Do you honestly think that since people don't put their garbage in the right spot is going to make the Mayor or someone who works for the town come and put everyone's garbage in the right spot? NO! That is the responsibility of the residents, and those who live around them. Speak up to your neighbors if you don't agree with what they're doing, and they may actually take into consideration what you're saying. I always hear so many people complain about the people in Berywn, or things about the way the town is, and it's like, okay, there's 55 complaints, and 1 person who is actually being proactive and making things change? C'mon, instead of wasting that time complaining, you should think of a solution to what it is you're upset about. ♥

Yeah, Berwyn has changed.
Gotta love all those SECTION 8 families that moved in to the apartments. And of course the 3 families living in single family bungolos. Funny around when this started happing the gang-graffitti started appearing more & more. The year was Sept.1993 and there was a shooting at 2:30pm after school and by the look at the teenagers for the new year I knew this was the end of Berwyn. If only I was as good at picking stock as I saw Beryn's future that day. |

Judged: 1 http://www.berwynpoliceblotter.com/ Please note how many misbehaving perpetrators are from other cities -- Cicero, Chicago, Addison, etc. It is not the residents of Berwyn causing most of the problems -- it's people from other cities who come to Berwyn because it is safer than where they are from. |
Well I did talk to a Berwyn police officer about the graffitti and he said they are done by kids who live in Berwyn.
Why did Berwyn let these low lifes into Berwyn? Berwyn used to be quite and graffitti free and used to inforce housing codes. Berwyn had Cicero their neighbor in the late 80's to see how that suburb changed. They should have known what could happen to Berwyn if they didn't enforce housing codes. Berwyn could have been another Oak Park instead it's becoming another Cicero. |

Yes I must admit that the standerd for Urban and Suburban living has dropped in the passed 20 years but I personaly feel that Berwyn rest in the middle of the road when it comes to rating.
It is not as nice as the Upper District in Downtown Chicago but it is not as low as the SouthSide of The State Lower Class Urban Housing Plan In short we stand in the middle |
I know why have we let the bar fall. Have you ever been to Riverside (The suburb over from Berwyn- I find downtown Riverside to be just as nice as Oak Park) Go there See the Town Tell me what You think |
Yes I understand that this may have been a key event that marked Berwyns downfall but are you saying that this single event altered the Berwynise History as standing in the center over which one it is most like (Oak Park or Cicero)? Just Asking :) |
What If the City of Berwyn was to erect a fence along its borders and only resedence with a pass code could come in and out. This would stop the strong flow of people coming in and out of the city and would bring it down to a small trickle! |
I think that we just need to look out and carry a defence system with us if need be (for example when I am walking to the YMCA I always have pepper spray with me) |
I never was one for the family situation but I personaly feel that you so called Mom and Pop Businesses are slowing the econnmey of the Small City? When there is to much small bussiness going on there is little to no money being brought into the house hold. Thus the familys are having issues providing for the kids and then they may or may not end up on well fare. |
