Very glad to see that with the new face lift that the mall "seems" to be coming back. Looks like Office Depot is moving to the old Circuit City location as well as that K&G just opening up. Hoping that it moves into that Service Merchandise that closed (probably been more than 10 years ago now).

Been to the Meijer in Bolingbrook and it seemed pretty decent. Glad there is going to be an alternative to that pit of a Walmart in Forest park.

I like the New Cermak Plaza as well , it's about time.
The 2200 block between Maple Ave. and Harlem Ave. is also looking up, possible a strip mall of small franchises.
Meijer will definitely have an impact on Jewel/Osco in N.Riverside especially if it's open 24hrs.
With CVS opening at the former Rizza Ford corner ,maybe Pearle vision can relocate since that particular location would be better served by a high traffic eatery.
Things are definitely changing for that intersection , we'll see how Jewel does in the next couple of years, it doesn't look that good for them right now.

The JIMMY JOHNS always is empty when I drive by there every day.
So with CHILIS'S there I don't think another food place is in order.

Also like the fact that there's a new Jimmy Johns and plans for a new Chipotle and B'dubs across the street. Plus the new Culvers on Roosevelt.

All we need now is a Starbucks and let the re-gentrification begin!

I could see several stores that could help the area.

1. Harbor Freight Tools (instead of going to Home Depot)- Now you have to go out of the way to Home Depot or Menards that have crappy locations. You can also go to an overpriced and understocked Ace Hardware, which is probably the best bet in the area.

2. Chik-Fil-A - Berwyn could use an unBurger take out joint, espcially one that's great to the community.

3. Coffee Shop with drive through - I prefer Caribou and there is already a Starbuck in North Riverside mall.

4. A family oriented place like Cici's Pizaa or Sweet Tomatoes. I shudder how successful Cici's would be if they moved to Cicero or Berwyn.

5. A good non-chain store pizza place. Berwyn has 1 really good pizza place in Arnie Salernos and a bunch of poor (Salernos, Pizza Platter) or average places (Bennys).

6. Another decent sit down restaurant in North Berwyn. How about demolishing that old bank on the corner of Cermak and Oak Park Avenue. I can't think of a better location to help the area come back alive. Maybe it will start a much needed TIF spending spree in that area.

7. Another OB/GYN office in North Berwyn. There simply are not enough of them to go around given the substantially above average birth rate in the area.

8. A high class Latino restaurant with a competent bilingual service staff. Seriously, all there is is Lalo's and Lalo's food blows. With the huge Hispanic population in the area, I would expect a little more in this area besides the cockroach-ridden, stale smelling, broken down places lining the streets of Berwyn and Cicero.

9. A store like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. I think Trader Joe's replacing Familia Foods in Cermak Plaza would be EPIC. I also think that Sara Lee could stand to change their location to Cermak Plaza to complete the area's shopping attraction. Any more build up would make traffic unbearable.

Chain-store only places only go so far. A good mix will make Berwyn a better place to shop.

"higher class latino restaurant"?? LOL, what do they serve aged salsa. Restaurants, perhaps we shall be the City of restaurants, eh?

No Sonic in Berwyn. Closest is going in Cicero and then one is going in Villa Park. No Pepe's either.

Also, WalMart in Forest Park is now a Super Walmart. Jewel doesn't stand a chance in hell.

Berwyn has had Pizza Hut (on Roosevelt) and it's long gone. The KFC on Odgen sold Pizza Hut for awhile but I believe that stopped too. Pepe's was on Ogden and closed down years ago. No way that's coming back either.

PEPE'S is over priced Mexican t.v. dinner food.
Why would you want that place with all the Mexican places? Try BURGER KING tacos at Cermack & Oak Park ave. if you good junk food tacos.
