Like, Adam, our son is also autistic and disruptive. The difference between the Race family and our family is that we would NEVER impose his constant groaning and yelling upon a church full parishioners trying to pray or listen to a sermon. If we as a family was determined to attend a certain church I would run speaker cables to an isolated room to listen to the service and we would take communion privately.

The Race family and ours have something in common with many families across this nation, Autism. Our youngest two boys, Elijah,5, and Chase,3, have Austism, and our oldest Isaac is on the spectrum. Church is supposed to be a safe place, and children are the kingdom of heaven. Didn't our Savior say to bring them forth. We do not attend church, and it is due to hypocrates like these. Yet, we are the ones who are lost. Wolves in sheeps clothing, they will reep what they sow. Why did no one offer help. Also according to the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA), no establishment has the right to ban or through out any person(S) due to thier disabilities, or the behaviors stemming from that disability. To the family, we will pray for you, and God Bless You. Your son is innocent, and he is the kingdom. To the church we shall pray for you as well, and you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the boy is innocent. On that we can agree.

However, why should the behavior of one be tolerated when it clearly disrupts the spiritual and community experience one typically expects at church? Attending church should be a pleasant experience for ALL, not just one family seeking solace.

We don't know from this news story if the family was offered support. I would think there would be another way around this problem besides an outright ban. I like the recommendation posted in Post #1.

I sympathize with the families across the world suffering from autism. However, the benefit of the few should NOT trump the benefit of one family. Sorry, it's nothing against autism or disabilities in general - it's really just common sense.

You are to be commended for your consideration of others, but mostly for the dedication you show your son. Placing a severely autistic child in the midst of a controlled environment can bring the child enormous stress. I cannot imagine that this 13 year old boy receives any type of benefit from attending services - am I wrong?

There are plenty of opportunies to "mainstream" special needs kids. Mass is not one of those places.

I wish you good luck with your family and children - it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, which is enormously beneficial to your kids. Keep up the good fight.

It ust doesn't seem very Christian to ban a chid from the House of the LORD. What do you think Jesus would have done? Think about it......

Although I dont have anyone in my family that has this I feel very upset and disgusted that "Anyone" and I mean "Anyone" does not have the right to Ban anyone from going to church. If the child is a threat to anyone then figure out a way for that child to still participate in any and or all activities. I mean come on how low can we as humans become when it comes to going to church. I feel for the family and hope they find a way that they can have Adam attend the church they went to before all of this.
thank you for listening.
