The Mr. Mercer Page

The Mr. Mercer Page was started intentionally to start trouble. Not just students have facebook pages adults have them as well and adults aren't not stupid. I personally saw that page a couple of weeks ago. I saw what several of you said on that page about others. And some of you students were teachers and coaches kids. The verbage you guys used was hateful and intentional. Parents reported your page! Ever her heard of Internet Harassment, cyber stalking? Yeah, it doesn't just happen outside of good ole Bernie and if your so inept that you don't realize what your doing. Look it up you internet savvy teenagers. You will find that you are not immune to getting in trouble. You know why you intentionally started this and it wasn't for good ole memories.

If you kids had any integrity at all you would appologize for what you did and said about others it'd be forgotten! How would you like people to be that cruel to you?

the page WAS started by Cameron that's not very smart considering his dad works there and the principal is his boss!!!!! Kids think they have TOO MUCH say these days. You have to have rules and the BOSS is the BOSS! It won't be any different when you get in the work force. You will always have someone to answer to and if you don't you will be OUT THE DOOR in the "real" world! You all just liked Mr. Mercer because he was like a kid himself and wanted to be a buddy to the students. Students don't need their principal to just be a friend. The principal is there as an authority figure.

First of all, your either a student who is just trying to cause more trouble or an adult who doesn't know how Facebook works. But anyone could LOOK at that page. Face it Students you screwed up and were caught. You were doing it to be hateful and hurtful. Would you like me to name the students that made comments"????? keep it up and I will.

If it was a I hate marcum, or a I hate the new administration page, that would be one thing....but it wasn't. The kids do have a right to their opinion. They spend most of their time at school and know better than any of us how they feel about the situation. Yes, they should be respectful, but they should also be heard.

Why should the students be "heard"? That's what is wrong with this world today. Everyone thinks the world should conform to what THEY want. When I was younger you learned to conform to the RULES at school and had no say in what those rules were going to be. If the students were being mistreated and abused that would be one thing. Most people have NO IDEA what it takes to run a school. You can't keep everybody happy. You make rules so that the school will run smoothly and the students can get an EDUCATION. School is not supposed to be "fun"! Enjoyable and safe, yes. Fun is reserved for extra curricular activities. That's why schools have them. The school day is for learning and teaching students to be productive members of society. Part of that is teaching them to follow the rules because there will ALWAYS be rules in life. Get over it, obey the rules, have fun when it's appropriate and get your education!!!!!

These kids are entitled to their own say as well. I have heard about some incidents regarding Marcum and I'll say for sure i am leary of this man. There are many parents whom share this notion with me. I did not see anything that was really degrading or distasteful on the facebook page, unless it was removed before I read it.I believe Scott Mercer done an excellent job at bernie and I hated to see him leave and furthermore you have to have a relationship with the kids, you can't just bully everyone. It seems the kids morale has suffered considerably and I believe it will show in their grades, participation, and attendance. I have spoken with two board members on the subject. It appears to me and others as well that he is nothing more than a bully. Granted that I don't know how to be a principle, but I do know that it is much like our own jobs and careers. If someone at your work is making your job miserable, you can easily become unproductive and unhappy. These students have to like him for everything to improve. It has been several years since I was in school but I can still remember those that all the students liked. It seemed the morale was high in those classes, the grades achieved by the students were higher, incidents of hijinx were uncommon, and everyone participated in class. I'm not saying this man can not be a good principal or saying he is a poor person, what I am saying is there does not seem to be a whole lot of kids that like him, and I think that is a grave mistake as far as our childrens education is concerned.I heard about the tantrum marcum pitched at the assembly also and think that an adult in a leadership position should conduct himself in an appropiate manner. Bullying solves nothing.I honestly think his time here will be short because the students achievement and morale will dictate the outcome. I honestly don't know why Mercer left but I for one think it was a mistake to let him leave. They could have kept him on board with a little effort I believe.

"Granted that I don't konw how to be a principle".....you don't even know how to SPELL principal! Ha! Were you at the assembly? Did you see him throw a "tantrum"? On facebook all it said was that he yelled at the students. Oh, heaven forbid that a student be yelled at! It might harm their self esteem. Yes, there were negative remarks on the facebook page because I read them myself. And, no, not all the students have to like the principal. That would be an unrealistic expectation.

First of all you say "I heard"something, "I heard" you said this on two differant subjects. consider this. Go talk with the man.

Second, I don't agree with kids needing to like a principal. I believe they need to RESPECT, Be shown how to RESPECT and learn discipline!

3rd, you a say you talked to board members who don't like the man and he is a bully. Well it is obviously your talking about Jack McGowan, he is only on the board for his selfish reasons (baskebeball) and his grandson, that is obvious whom ever the other is doesn't have a clue what it takes to produce respectable citizens.

and 4th, the last administration lied about test scores and misused funds so you tell me what kind of message that is suppose to send our and your kids.

Go see the man, go talk to the man. find out what really happened instead of taking a kids word and show your kids how to really handle a situation NOT start some hate crap on the internet over "I HEARD"! I'd have it removed too! then those very same kids start accusing and spreading crap about an innocent girl, his daughter. WOW "I HEARD" it was YOUR kid. How would that feel???????

Parent--you have forgotten. There was and still is proof of the mistakes Ritchie and Mercer, more so Rithcie than Mercer, tried to cover up (the e-mails) along with all the turmoil Ritchie and Dawson created to get a new board elected, only to fail. She was a corrupt woman. Mercer just happen to get caught up in the mess. There was nothing HEARD about the wrong doings of the Ritchie era. It's all facts. It will take some time to get the school back to where a school should be. These administrators new coming into the school that there were problems. Division among staff members is not good and will harbor an unhealthy school system. Stand behind your administrators and board members. Eventually all things will work out for the best. God is with us and will prevail in this mess at school. I pray daily for our leaders of the school to make the right decisions. I realize some will be hurt and maybe not get their way but, if all will be adults and professional about changes that are being made we can all see a better school environment.

No one is saying that the administration should conform to what the students want, however, they do have the right to be respected and heard. You are correct, you can't keep everyone happy, but a true leader has no issues listening to suggestions and/or answering questions. You should not want or expect students and/or teachers to mindlessly follow anyone who is thrown in front of them and called a "leader;" not now, and not in the future.
